Re: Opinions on Crossdraw or alternate carry holsters?

Depends on how you consider appendix my style ofiwb carry. My holster is just left of 12 so the the barrel nestles between my leg and .... Well ... Other stuff. The benefit it the belt buckle helps break up the outline of the butt and it really isn't much a cross draw. While it is comfortable in the...

You Canadiens and your cheap Chinese Imports. Take off, Ehh! :D
Given the import restrictions its a great price for us southerners (not in the arctic circle).

Re: Belleville USAF Boots

Belleville flight boots are quite nice but by no means meant for long use. By that I mean the tread is long gone after 1-2 yrs. Its not uncommon to look down and suddenly see a chunk of leather is suddenly missing off the toe and you cannot for the life of you remember kicking anything with enough f...

Re: star firearms... good, bad the ugly?

My wife is the owner of a star bm, a scaled down looking version of a 1911. 4 in barrel single stack 9pm. Pro's: great gun for a cheap price of 250$. Great trigger (single action) accurate enough, not quite the groups of my 1911 but pretty good at 25 yd. Very slim grip, sized perfectly for smaller h...

Re: First Handgun purchase

2. Ammo and ammo cost and availability are a concern. I assume they all shoot .45 ACP but I see other types of .45 (colt, GAP, CAP, etc). I like the stopping power of .45 but might consider a good 9mm also. If ammo costs are a concern, don't get a .45. While I have a Kimber 1911, I don't shoot it o...

Re: Pistol accuracy

Second is the trigger pull. How many people actually like the trigger? For target shooting, it is a terrible trigger. Too heavy, too long, and too mushy. That leads to not as accurate as possible. A firearm's "inherant accuracy" is not affected by the trigger. A person's ability to use the firearm ...

Re: G19 in IWB, feeling exposed

I am in the same boat. Even with a g26 it prints when i wear it from 4-530. Soooo, I carry appendix (1155). The clip is just to the left of the belt buckle with right hand draw. With this setup, pant height is not an issue. If I am wearing a tighter t shirt only, i take in an extra belt notch. It ma...

Re: Does anyone concealed carry a government 1911?

it can get a little jabby. Amen. Given my build it prints with any carry other than small of back, or appendix. Unfortunately, much of the time I am out I am with my 1 yr old son, requiring me to bend over and pick him up repeatedly. Appendix was far to "jabby" and small of the back revealed when b...

Re: Old and New

Very nice Colt. I have the FN version and love it. It used to be my 24/7 carry gun that was augmented by my 1911 when i could carry it based on clothing. Since I got a g26 i havnt carried it for awhile but still love it.

Re: the Defensive Shotgun; How we make it work--MilCopp Blog

It rarely gets mentioned, but the disadvantage is that you have to use it with two hands. For example, if you have to get your toddler out of her room in the middle of the night, you need a free hand to haul the kid. You really can't use a shotgun with one hand, you would have to shoulder the thing...

Thanks for the help. I found a smith today who said he could help me. He said he had some ideas but also a drill press if need be. I will drop it off with him tomorrow. I just want to know why its stuck in there so good. I bent my steel punches.

Re: New US Marine Corp Pistol contender?

Guns wear out. If the 1911 has been in use by Marines since the 80's, yeah, replace it. I really don't understand why getting new guns for the military is difficult. I was baffled when I was hanging around the Marines that their M9s were as fucked as they were. Ours weren't new but theirs were junk...

Re: 2 gunsmithing questions, one easy one hard.

Normally I'd heat something up before trying to remove a pressed in part, but I'd be worried about annealling the slide. If its tapered, your smith may have driven it the wrong way. Thats what i am wondering. Its a Century gun so I am wondering if they didnt press the pin in backwards. Exactly what...

Re: lightweight AR uppers?

The only increase in weight for a mid length will be a few inches of gas tube and plastic handguard (negligable weight on both accounts). Significantly more weight savings will be detirmined by your barrel length and profile. That being said, I have a Bushamster 16in pencil barrel on a BCM upper. (t...

Re: FBI Study on handgun ballistics (Good read)

Biggest "wow" thing to me was that the concept of energy transfer or kinetic energy is almost meaningless. It's all about the bullet's ability to reliably penetrate to the vitals and leave a wide enough channel for the subject to bleed out through. To say that energy transfer isn't responsible for ...

Re: Mag size (Ammo Count I say, old chap. That has to be amo

For defensive handguns... all the time. Gives a 1911 9 rounds of .45 which is a significant advantage of 8. Say a 12.5% increase in capacity. Increases my g26 by 10%. (10rd factory mags). It makes me feel less dumb when i dont carry extra mags. ( not much less but slightly) I don't keep any other g...

Re: Why not have a carry handle AR?

The carry handle really limits the ability to mount optics. The carry handle mount is great if you dont like having your face anywhere near the stock and want to look like SF from the 90's. (I personally prefer the 80's for my retro SF look, UZI's and MP5's.....sooooo hootttt) Some people mill off t...

Not a .38 shooter but am a big fan of my g26. Its my IWB buddy that goes everywhere that I do except bed. (That is my reserved special time with one sexy 1911.) Reading the OP thought reminded me of this article. Worth a read as is the rest of his page. http://www.hipowersandhandguns.com/9mm%20vs%20...
