Re: Would you eat canned dog or cat food?

I worked at an animal shelter for a while when I was younger, and we had to make a slurry of different canned food for the puppies and kittens. Canned dog food tastes at best like pate, and at worst like Hormel beef stew. Seriously. Cat food OTOH isn't particularly to my personal taste, but YMMV. It...

Re: All purpose "Help me build my AR" thread.

So back on page 272, you can see my PSA upper. I've since sold my second rifle, and apparently I should have held on to it... I haven't gone to the range much lately due to health issues, but after I stuck it on my lower and put on my RDS, I took it to the range a few times. It shoots all over the p...

Re: Gen 4 Glock Handle Wrap

Thanks, gentlemen. Will probably invest in some sleeveless undershirts. -Neptune This is what I do. You can also try a leather/kydex holster if that strikes your fancy. Mine doesn't let the handle of my pistol rub against me, but I'm a hairy bastard so I still wear an undershirt because the leather...

Re: The 3rd Gun

I'm not sure I follow the intent of a "third" gun. I guess it depends on what the other two guns are? I'm generalizing, but for most people ZSers it'll be: #1 30 round rifle #2 Full size pistol #3 : ??? Basically, if you carry a third gun, what would give you the most utility. It seems the general ...

Re: MRE's & cold

Everything Raptor has posted is true and accurate by my reckoning. There have been many different types of MRE's issued over the years as well. At one time there was a "RCW" MRE issued that could abide freezing. These were however pretty rare. I only came across them once in 25 years. http://www.mr...

Re: DayZ standalone game

I haven't played this in months. Have they done anything to address the really stupid game breaks like walking through walls, zombies through the floor, leg-breaking ladders, and taking thirty goddamned seconds to draw a weapon? I want to love DayZ (and have about 150 hours into the alpha), but it'...

Re: What Did You Do Today To Prepare?

Went to the Commissary. Picked up a couple of TOTMs to drop in the food crate, and flat of water bottles. Added some canned goods to the cabinet but nothing that's set aside for "prep food" though if something went down it could go into the food crate all the same. Why TOTMs and not MREs? Price? If...

Re: Rapid Military Takeover WWYD

I'd probably go with the cache weapons/gear option, and just lay low. This doesn't sound like it is much worse than it is now, and potentially better depending on who is doing what to whom. Lots of things depend on different aspects of the lockdown too. Most of my family live in Texas, can I get a p...

I have had to make claims with two large insurance companies and they would not replace anything unless I had a receipt/inboicr. Didn:y matter if I had pictures and such. Keep that in mind for the things you do leave behind. I'm relatively certain they have to reimburse you if you purchase somethin...

I don't understand "The Cowboy". Is he holding his gun up like that and looking at the target? Does he have so much muzzle flip that his gun is flying upwards and he can't control it?

Re: Best place to shop for prepped food?

What can I expect if I visit the LDS cannery here in El Paso? Is it gonna be a prep-gasm? I'm just curious about what I'm going to be getting into. I didn't see this earlier. It depends. Here in Houston, when you open a bag of something, you can the entire bag, so if your group wanted 30 cans of be...

Can you expand on the pests more? I live on the gulf coast, so olive trees are in my future one way or another, but I'm getting my citrus started first. That said, I had no idea they'd take 10 years to produce, so I'm certainly going to get some planted sooner than later. The bonus of living down he...

Yeah I can appreciate the level of effort that went into it. Still surprised Bethesda didn't do something but maybe they saw it as free publicity? A little of that, plus it was originally hosted in Poland IIRC, so maybe that makes the cease and desist letter take longer to get out. They should have...

Do the batteries have a "best by" date on them or whatever it's called? Usually just "JAN 201X" Just curious because I've had it happen, but usually with crappy batteries. I'm also pretty sure that vinegar dissolves the acid, but alcohol sounds like it works also. Also to note, what you have on your...

Pretty much the same as above, but my well has TERRIBLE water, so we have a chlorine injector and our septic is just fine. If they ever manage to get city water here, I'd hook up in a second.
