Re: Beer and several shots in Ventura CA

The Tinfoil Hat Brigade is going to go nuts with the conspiracy theories on this, not even two full days after the elections, and also the day RBG falls in her office and breaks three ribs. I think I'm going to have to stay off certain local ham radio frequencies where the THB ragchews will be goin...

Re: Firearms Chat 6: Year of the 10mm

Well, I didn't think an indoor range would let me use the shotty... Probably not but most will let you use a rifle with careful ammo selection. My old range limited rifles to 7.62x51 & shotties with slugs only. I need to check some of the indoor ranges out here and see what kind of restrictions the...

Re: Firearms Chat 6: Year of the 10mm

There are a lot of guns which I regret not buying; an SKS, milled AK, a few others. The definite most painful is an M1 back when we saw a pile of 'em in a (literal) barrel in one of those pawn shop/hardware/antique and kitch/grocery/general stores you used to see on the back roads. I want to say th...

Dang.

I just checked Gun Broker and there's one listing for an SKS-D with a high bid of $995 right now.

If that SKS-D I saw in Houston three years was going for only 450, I missed out on a heck of a deal then. :gonk:

Re: Firearms Chat 6: Year of the 10mm

The coolest one I found was a Norinco SKS that used AK mags (I think it's the SKS-D or M, but I'm not sure). That one was selling for about 600 bucks and I wish I'd have bought it. My Pops bought this SKS-M back around '93. IIRC, it was priced at $189, and the ones with thumbhole stocks were $209.....

Re: Firearms Chat 6: Year of the 10mm

The last time I saw an SKS in a shop out here, they had a tag on it for $495 and it was a Yugo SKS like in the link I posted. There's a shop in Houston called "Collector's Firearms" that has (or at least they did the last time I was there) at least two racks filled with various SKS models. The coole...

Re: Tunnel Rat Poll

I think the Soviets were working on a newer suppressed revolver a few years ago (sort of a modern Nagant, but less fugly and using better ammo), but that's a bit late for use in Vietnam. As for the topic, I'd probably go for either the 1911 or maybe a cut down M1 carbine. Also, if they're sending a ...

Re: Short high waisted jackets. Sick of this style!

I'm about 6'4" and the only jacket I've got that covers my rear end is a Walls one (looks kind of a like a rancher's chore coat) I picked up at Walmart. It's basically just a thick shirt, but since it rarely snows more than a couple inches here in Texas, it works for me. It's only one of two jackets...

Re: What have you bought in the last 48 hours?(firearms related)

I picked up a pair of Center Point rifle scopes today at the local Walmart. They're a discontinued model and one of them had some damage to the scope body (not enough to inhibit function, though) as well as a jacked up turret knob cover. The other is in pretty good shape and I got the pair for 30 bu...

That's a pretty damn good job for a last minute, tossed together from random parts from the leftovers drawer build.

Century should hire this guy and put him to work building the RAS47s. Maybe then they'd actually be worth a damn.

Re: I got the hots for an AK.

If I were to buy another AK (I've been missing having more than one), I'd probably save up for one of those Arsenal SLR-107R's.

Or maybe I'd give Atlantic Firearms another look and see what they've gotten in over the past couple years.
