Re: Mossberg 500 based home defense setup

I never knew it was that big of a pain to swap out mag followers on a Mossberg shotgun. It didn't used to be, and it's different on the 590s. On my original, there was to threadlock compound. Mossberg didn't start putting that until about 10-12 years ago, near as I can tell. No clue why though. The...

Just out of curiosity, why are you trying to remove the magazine tube, NT2C?

Re: Firearms Chat 6: Year of the 10mm

FYI: It has been 9 days since anyone posted. :? I've got nothing left to say since I sold all my firearms, shaved my head and decided I'd be better off defending my self with a two foot length of 1/2 in Pvc pipe and a used stubby pencil . Remember ... All hail the whole, cause the Whole hales all. ...

Re: "Blast" from the past: the USFA Zip 22!

The Zip22 could've been a decent little gun, provided they had made it with stronger materials in certain areas and not went whole hog into getting it out to the public before ironing out the bugs in the system. Had USFA used steel or aluminum for the bolt in place of plastic, placed the charging ha...

Re: "Blast" from the past: the USFA Zip 22!

Also, didn't USFA used to make really good Colt SAA clones or am I thinking of another company ? Nope, you're right. They even sold the tooling for the SAA clones to finance the manufacture of Zip22s. Apparently the owner thought they'd sell a gajillion of the Zip22s and buy the tooling back later....

Re: What are you playing?

I've been playing around in Far Cry 5 for the last couple days. I've already freed one region and I'm working on the other two, but I'll probably just end up messing around like I usually do in these open world type games. It's a fun game that's filled with a ton of stuff to do, unlike the past entr...

Re: "Blast" from the past: the USFA Zip 22!

Even if they were handing those guns out for free at Cabela's or Academy, there's no way I'd ever own one.

Re: Ammo can or Ammo Brick?

Most of my ammo cans are the .50 cal ones. I've got a couple of the .30 cal ones, but I typically just use the 50s. Three of them are the so called "fat fifty" type that are wider than the standard .50 cal cans. I also picked up a couple aftermarket .50 cal cans like you find at Sam's Club stores ar...

Re: Ammo can or Ammo Brick?

The ammo brick looks neat, but that thin wire handle (kind of like what you see on big paint cans) has me concerned about its longevity. But I guess if you're just using them for storage and not dragging them out to the range all the time, the wire handle might be good to go. I'm still going to stic...

Re: What have you bought in the last 48 hours?(firearms related)

Ford backwards . DROF driver returns on foot. Okay... <shrugs> Moving on, picked up a really cheap (I expect it to probably be crap but I've been surprised before) 25 round shotgun shell belt on Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0000C53GH/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 If it's...

Re: Firearms Chat 6: Year of the 10mm

My only experience with paintball markers was a cheapo pump one I got from Walmart for my birthday when I was 12. That gun did not last long before the pump got jammed and it no longer worked. My brothers tried to fix it (since they were the ones who jammed it) but it was no use. It was probably for...

Re: Firearms Chat 6: Year of the 10mm

Bluing won't work on stainless steel, Woodsghost.

Not sure why, but I've been told it has something to do with the amount of carbon in the steel and there not being enough in stainless steel for the bluing chemicals to attach to.

I went to Academy today and picked up a Magpul M-Lok handstop kit and a pack of A-Zoom snap caps for my AR.

Re: Firearms Chat 6: Year of the 10mm

Well, I'm not gonna burn my Levi's (I don't own any) but... Levi Strauss went and screwed the pooch. I'm more of a Wrangler guy myself, but that's mostly because their jeans actually fit me better than Levi's stuff. That and I can get two pairs of Wrangler jeans for the price of one pair of Levi's.

Re: Firearms Chat 6: Year of the 10mm

When I Googled it, there were several threads from various sites about modding certain flip covers to work on the TRS-25. I did a little searching too and it appears that the TRS-25 isn't exactly made for flip covers because there's not much space for them. Thanks for helping me out, Rick. I guess ...

Re: Firearms Chat 6: Year of the 10mm

Anyone got a source for or know what size I'd need for flip up covers for a TRS-25 ? I put mine on my AR on Monday and I really dislike the rubber cover that came with it. It works to keep dust and junk off the lenses, but it's a pain to remove it whenever I want to use the optic. So I'd like to get...

Re: Firearms Chat 6: Year of the 10mm

I think it would be easier to find out where these sales are occurring and go there. But that is just my opinion. YMMV. That makes sense, Raptor. Even if the Walmarts near my place don't have the major sale on guns, it's fine with me. I can just use the funds to buy parts for the guns I already own...

Re: What have you bought in the last 48 hours?(firearms related)

I ordered a Magpul rail light mount and a 0.83" medium profile riser mount for my AR from Amazon last Wednesday and received them this afternoon.

Now they're on my AR and I'm two steps closer to having my AR set up the way I want it.

Re: Firearms Chat 6: Year of the 10mm

There's only one Walmart near me that doesn't sell guns, but the other three that I go to on a semi regular basis all still do. And they always have some flavor of 10/22 in stock too. One of them always has a Henry lever action 22lr rifle as well. Not sure if it's the same one or they just have mult...

Re: Firearms Chat 6: Year of the 10mm

I went to Walmart one and Southern Mississippi won in Southern Louisiana.. There was no such sale in my area. Lots of inventory but all at regular prices. I wonder if it's only at certain Walmarts in the US ? I guess if the Walmart near my place doesn't have any mega sales on guns, I'll just find a...

Re: Firearms Chat 6: Year of the 10mm

Regarding the sales at Walmart, I mentioned this to my oldest sister and it sounds like there may be a Ruger 10/22 take down in my future as a birthday gift from her.

Now I just hope the Walmarts near me still have some by the time I can stop by again.
