Re: Setting up the utility room and getting a minor disaster

I'm glad you and your's are okay. When you started describing the shelf failure I thought that either: a) your brackets weren't rated for the weight of the bins you put on them or b) your screws were too short. I figured you knew enough to get them into the studs and not just into the drywall. Glad ...

Re: Life after Unexpected Unemployment

Thanks guys for the support. ZS has been good to my family, especially when my oldest daughter passed away suddenly at the age of 21 in 2010. ZS:005 and ZS:011 came through for us with moral support and practical help, letting us change clothes at someone's house after our drive down to Portland, OR...

Life after Unexpected Unemployment

On March 15, 2011 my career in law enforcement came to an unexpected end. I was forced to retire early, well, at the normal federal LE retirement age of 55 but my agency is supposed to let one keep working well past then. I was given little notice, suddenly I was offered a nice retirement package (a...

Re: .45 black powder vs 12 ga shotgun?

First off, I'm no deer hunter, I'm a retired cop. So I'm pretty good with a riot gun and I know the limitations of buckshot on people, critters that are a bit more dangerous but less fleet than deer. Out to 35 yards you are good with 00 buckshot getting a majority of pellets on target (meaning more ...

Re: Sig 556 classic or Arsenal AK-47 need advice

I love SIG classics but lately there have been complaints posted here about their QC. My SIG 522 purchase has been fine, no complaints with the rifle, only my aftermarket sight quest. SIG has good customer service though so they will address any issues you may encounter. The Arsenals are also...

Re: Need eastern block coin tossed for me

I agree that Arsenal or a good Saiga conversion is the best of the AK's here in the US. I've been very happy with my Saiga conversion. The Vz-58 is a very different rifle as our Canadian members can tell you. It's a good design, in some circles it's considered a better design than the AK. Both the A...

Re: SIG 522 NIB & The Epic Fail

Now that I've had time to think it over there was one thing I forgot to bring with me to the range (besides my spotting scope  ). It was the front sight adjustment tool from Samson. I can raise the front post and try it out with Federal Match ammo I bought today.

Re: SIG 522 NIB & The Epic Fail

ARRGGGG!!!!!! I got my Burris 1/2" riser and now my rear sight is too high. I can't lower the elevation down enough to zero it at 100 yards, let alone closer. I need a 1/4" riser but nobody makes one.

At least my scope works but all this money I've put into BUiS has been wasted.

Re: SIG 522 NIB & The Epic Fail

Finally success, while I'm still waiting for my Burris 1/2" riser for the rear KAC BUIS I did get my 1-4x 24mm Illuminated Reticle scope and Blackhawk 1/2" riser for it. So it is close to being done. And yes, on 1x the sights cowitness with the dot in a circle reticle that I have but the quick detac...

Re: Mosin Jungle Carbine mod

We still need a range report on this rifle. And pics of the muzzle flash (evening/night would be awesome)! Edit: I just looked up the barrel length on my sons' M44 carbines. They are about 20" and have a great muzzle flash. Your 16.25" bobbed rifle will be a real kick to shoot, not just to your shou...

Re: Rifle cartridge holders?

I agree with MajorHavoc, that rifle does look like it came from a custom shop rather than a DIY job. That means you did very well for a trunk gun. However, I wouldn't leave any rounds in the mag but add a MN pouch or two to my car GHB/Go Bag with additional rounds on stripper clips. An unloaded rifl...

Re: SIG 522 NIB & The Epic Fail

Here is a sideways photo that shows the new sights on the rifle. That is a ProMag in it rated for 30 rounds but some overload it to 33 rounds. Probably why their mag springs failed earlier than usual too.

Re: SIG 522 NIB & The Epic Fail

If the aftermarket sights are not working, why not just put the factory sights on? At least you would be hitting paper, right? I had a similar issue when I had a 556 classic. I installed a MI flip-up front sight and had to use a small riser to use the factory rear diopter sight . Hmmm... I recall s...

Good post RoOism! Caching on public lands can be considered illegal dumping, especially if you are this guy who left his stuff open to elements. However, some future Indiana Jones wannabe will love digging it up to figure out how our generation lived (or why we died). As far as prepping goes, this g...

You guys catch this? ZS member shot in Arlington

A ZS'er from the Boise area is visiting Arlington when he gets shot. Meantree, Fred, et al, you likely saw this on the news but didn't know he was in Zombie Squad.

Re: Ruger SR22 pistol with Range report

I went back to the range today to test out my SIG 522 and the Ruger SR22. The Ruger was loaded with the Winchester bulk pack hollow points again. This time I loaded each mag and the difference was remarkable. I only had one failure to feed but two failure to fires. On the second failure to fire I we...

Re: SIG 522 NIB & The Epic Fail

The KAC replaced this sight, a US made 4 peep sight that lacks elevation adjustment made by MFI. Even with the Burris riser I wouldn't be able to zero it well due to the front blade limiting how much I can adjust it. http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh36/Istvan56/Gun%20Stuff/th_MFIMADRearBUIS.jpg

Re: SIG 522 NIB & The Epic Fail

So I just spent some time over at my local gunsmith. He wasn't in, his son broke both wrists this morning at 2:00 AM falling out bed. :oh: His partner suggested an easy fix, add a small riser to the rear sight. He showed me a Burris [edit]1/2" riser that cost about $16.00. I'll be in tomorrow mornin...

Glad you are safe, Bro. I know the area due to Meantree, et al, of ZS:005 being up there. When you get back to Boise let me know and we can go shooting sometime. We need a chapter in the Treasure Valley. I'm in Caldwell and work in Boise.

And the Epic Fail continues... This is my new rear sight, a Knights Armaments Corporation rear micro peep 200m-600m rear sight that comes with a "z" setting for zeroing a M16/M4 type rifle with 25 meter targets. http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh36/Istvan56/Gun%20Stuff/kac_micro_600m_front_1_1_1....

Re: SIG 522 NIB & The Epic Fail

My new KAC sight is on the rifle and I'm ready to go test it at the range tomorrow. I plan on zeroing it with cheap Federal Lightning fodder first, since it performed well with it last time. Then I'm going to fire 2 five shot groups with better Federal 40 gr. solids, CCI Stingers (more rounded than ...
