Re: Have you had to draw your concealed carry, and why?
The only time I've had to even unholster my carry piece outside of practice is to put down a moose that I hit on the highway. Hopefully I never need it for even that again.

Just cook them thoroughly as grasshoppers can transmit tapeworms.

Re: What firearm that you used to own are you really wishing you still had?
I've never gotten rid of one yet, partially because it seems anyone who has ever gotten rid of one seems to regret it, partially because I am very picky and do a lot of research before I get one. Because of this I haven't regretted getting one either.

Re: Midwest farmland flooded - what will be the impact on food prices?
There are almost one billion acres of farmland active in the US. Flooding this time of year is expected and generally a non-issue as fields are not planted. It really sucks for those specific people who are affected, but it's not a problem for most.

Re: Halfapint's Getting Some Land
Chains would also help, my snow removal tractor doesn't leave the shop without them. I only run rear chains (2wd tractor) but I have heard of people running all four tires, even on two wheel drive tractors to improve turning ability. I can't tell from the pictures, but if you have independent breaks...

Re: Halfapint's Getting Some Land
If the tractor needs more weight, those fat tires will hold a lot of ballast. An ag dealer near you could put in something like rim guard, or if you feel like doing it yourself, cold temp windshield washer fluid could also work. Depending on the tire size, should be able to get 60 or more pounds per...

Re: living without electricity
I carry a bic for brush piles, burn barrels and the wood stove, it stays in my pocket all the time, and I am on my second one since 2012. Assuming 3 years of use (my second one is still practically full) your 150 bics will only last 450 years, so you are right, it is a finite resource. If we haven't...

If you reload, you can make lighter rounds for the 44 magnum. If you don't, 44 special can be bought.

Don't get your interest too piqued, ergotism also constricts blood vessels to the point of getting gangrene in the extremities.

Depends, deer on the run and I won't fire past 250ish yards. Deer standing still, my max has been a 430 yard shot, but you generally don't see them at that distance anyway. I know that I can't see a deer with the naked eye at 500 yards, even if I know where it is. I've only had one get away from me ...

The nylon sheath that comes standard with a leatherman wave has elastic loops on the side the perfect size for a single AA light, my fenix ld15 fits on one side, a cut down pen on the other and even has a small pocket in front for a paper money stash. After a few years the elastic begins to wear tho...

Parent of an 8 month old here, recently went through this as well. One nice thing about it will be having a perfectly acceptable well stocked bug out bag everywhere you go without anybody batting an eye at you. Even places that want you to leave a bag at the register will not take away your diaper b...

Re: Looking for a new commuter bike
Dedicated road bikes are awesome... on the road. If you have to hop a curb, you will probably get a flat, if you hit a pot hole, you will probably get a flat. Don't even look at gravel while on a road bike, you will sink. If I was looking at a commuter, especially where you live (the roads in WY can...

Re: The Beekeeping Thread (Pic heavy)
Thanks, this will be the first time I have had them since the '90s. I'm really looking forward to it. Where I'm at in ID, I can drive to Portland in less than 6 hours, but I'm not ready for bees from the woodenware stand-point, so I might take you up on that sometime, but not now. I'm hoping to try ...

I've got a 40ft extension ladder you could borrow, I hate using the thing, but that would be entertaining to see.
Probably too late though.
In other news, my bees will be here in May(damn you all).

Re: The Beekeeping Thread (Pic heavy)
So jealous of all your (practically) free bees.
I think this thread is going to be responsible for getting me back into bees, and I am looking at 125 dollars per nuc, plus the pain of all the starting equipment.
At least I shouldn't need an extractor this year.
