Kukri and rapier. Get your choppy and stabby going at the same time!

Though the correct answer if you are preparing for the "I'm out of ammo" event is a crossbow.

Re: Forget the potassium iodide

Is any brand of potassium iodide OK? I was looking at this - http://www.iherb.com/Now-Foods-Potassium-Iodide-30-mg-60-Tablets/33721 But then I was reading some CDC post about only tablets and liquid were OK...nothing about capsules. Look for the FDA approved tablets or liquids. tablets have a longe...

Misleading headline is misleading.

"The good news was that the woman's infection was susceptible to a handful of antibiotics, including carbapenems, said study co-author Kurt Schaecher, service chief for the infectious disease lab at Walter Reed. That means her infection was treatable."

BTW the Russian GPS system does have a separate infrastructure from the US GPS system so if your receiver can pick up the Russian GLONASS or the soon be operational European Union’s Galileo and China’s Beidou system you may still have GPS capability. It's hard to think of a scenario where the US GP...

Re: Any AF MARS Operators here?

I'm considering joining AF MARS, and I wanted to check in and talk with some people that are currently in the program. East WA appears to have one Army MARS operator and zero AF MARS operators. Probably a good opportunity for me to step up. MARS is de morte 'cept for the Big Army. The AF bailed out...

Shelf life is 7 years. So rotate it out of your kit every 7 years for $10. Now that's some cheap insurance! EDIT: IOSAT Shelf life is 7 years. Thyrosafe is 6 years. Unless you are living in the vicinity of a nuclear power plant , I'd imagine you have more immediate needs. If you are in the vicinity of a power plant, you will likely get first dibs on locally allocated emergency supplies. If you are in the plume path, you won't be remembered until it is too late...

There are currently 3 FDA approved KI tablets: Iosat, ThyroSafe, and ThyroShield. http://www.fda.gov/Drugs/EmergencyPreparedness/BioterrorismandDrugPreparedness/ucm072265.htm These are available OTC and therefore you should reconsider the roll your own method, given the risks involved. Go with the 30 gal drums. Fill it with whatever you use in weekly cooking.

Otherwise you'll be throwing bad food away in stock rotations, and your S will HTF when the SHTF, and everyone you are with will hate you.
