I like mine, I carry it everyday and have had it for years. I use a rechargeable ( eneloop ) AAA in it.

Re: Too Close for Comfort

Our county system uses a siren/ text to phone system with radio/ TV as backup. I was blissfully watching streaming TV for the NCAA Tournament when the sirens went off. My phone was two rooms away set on vibrate. The federal government bought everybody here Weather Alert Radios ( https://midlandusa....

Re: World War Flea - the Flea Apocolpsye in Real time

Crazy. We had a wild flea infestation earlier in the year, and I thought it would be an amusing short story, similar to the one above. Maybe in the style of daily journal entries. We retreated to our uninfested portion of our house, and lived like we were camping. Well, really nice camping with a ho...

Nuclear Missile Silo

You know how when you see those Nuclear Missle Silo's for sale and you think "That would be fun, but so much money and effort and I would likely kill myself". I ran across a post on reddit about a guy rehabbing his very own nuclear missile silo. He doesn't update very much but it is very entertainin...

I have an '88 chevy truck and it's been worked on by everyone and their brother throughout the years, so you never know what your going to find.

Anyway, I had a positive battery cable against the exhaust. It would short out when it got hot, but only when it was hot. It was initially very mysterious.

Do you have a couple of examples of that? Last time I looked at mutual funds was during and shortly after the 2008 thing, so the 20 year returns were pretty awful.

My understanding is that you can use radios that are "type accepted" for your band. So your band is part 90 CFR 47 according to my googling, which means you could use this radio, but not some other Chinese non type accepted radio: http://www.wouxun.us/item.php?item_id=295 That is my very vague under...

I've had this happen as a passenger and I yelled at the driver "What did you do!?". It was accompanied by the car lurching forward, because we had been rear-ended, but I didn't put that together for a few seconds.

I have trouble believing the claims of water filter marketing.

Sawyer and Berkey both don't seem to have NSF certification and the independent labs they used never seem as independent as they could be.

All you have to do is switch the main breaker off when backfeeding. But it must be as ingrained as safe gun handling. ALWAYS TURN MAIN BREAKER OFF WHEN BACKFEEDING GENERATOR!!! Make signs with above and put one on the genny and one on the breaker box. You really want a double pole breaker transfer ...
