Re: Chaos hits. Who would be coming for you?

Communities will form after any given disaster. Period. Absolutely they will. But there's a difference between intentional community and incidental community. The incidentals are the ones who tolerate each other or who have 'no other choice' but to cooperate. And that isn't really community, unless...

Re: Chaos hits. Who would be coming for you?

RoneKiln, I think that really gets to the heart of at least one of the concerns that prompted this thread. How do we maintain or form community in disaster? I know there are academic studies of such things--some of my friends have actually authored them--so that's certainly one place I could look. ...

Re: E&E Exercise

I'm just going to point out that ATVs don't mean shit. If I'm sleeping quietly during the day, and moving at night while everyone's sleeping, who gives a fuck? As long as I'm not obscenely loud, I'll be making time while everyone else is sleeping. Unless there's night patrols, or a night stag on the...

Re: Mass Effect Fans get so angry they donate more than 30k$

The charity drive has raised more than 40,000 dollars in support of Child's Play. You know what? I think giving to Child's Play like that shows the community has a spine. I threw them some money.

Re: Mass Effect Fans get so angry they donate more than 30k$

That's not a bad article. A lot on both sides are much more caustic. It explains a lot of the controversy- namely, the stripping of consequence and choice, the exceptionally large plot holes, etc. It was pretty bleak, to boot.

Re: Mass Effect Fans get so angry they donate more than 30k$

I had already decided to not get the game due to day one DLC and game design issues. It looks like I made the right choice. It's a shame really. I was a big fan of the first two games and to see them bungle it up like this is rather disheartening. The worst part is the rest of the game is gold. It'...

Mass Effect Fans get so angry they donate more than 30k$

I mean, I have to support this. It's confusing. Mass Effect 3's ending has gotten people so angry, so frustrated, that in protest they're donating to Child's play. Not just donating... They've managed to give Child's Play over 30,000$ in just over 24 hours. http://retakemasseffect.chipin.com/retake-...

Re: Custom Kydex Knife Sheath Ideas

All he needs to round out the package is a slushback nanny to keep his campsite clean and haul water and firewood. I thought that was your job.... Because we all know that the original slushback nanny barely even cleans up after himself, much less anybody else. A nanny keeps your spawn from committ...

Re: Custom Kydex Knife Sheath Ideas

Wow, that's kind of sexy. As a self-contained, grab-and-go survival package, this has to rank pretty high. You have all the tools to get by long time- a knife, a way to make fire, and a multitool to do all the fine work. This is really well thought out.

Re: Water Resupply in the PAW; WWYD

Texans do tend to be...uppity about trespassing. And their cattle. So, even in a non-paw situation, I'd be leery of just jacking water. In the scenario that Sigboy put out, I'd probably approach the ranch from the front, rifle slung and arms up. I'd ask about the water, and see if me and the rancher...

Hey, whoever was inside of that van was definitely in fear of their life. Given option of running folks down or getting Reginald Derry'ed, I'll mow down people to make good my escape. Once you put your hands up, you no longer have any guarantee of safety, just a chance they won't want to brick you i...

There's a lot of pictures emerging from Egypt now that the have TEH INTERNETS. Most of them really contradict the official byline of 'three or four fatalities'. Re: Bug Out Radios; Why?

lmao you have an iPod for your BOB but you thought a radio (similar size/weight) was a waste of space/weight. It's not in the BOB, I don't think. I very rarely leave my house without my iPod Nano. It has a radio, why do I need a handcrank radio or battery-driven one? And as far as 'older mode...

Re: Bug Out Radios; Why?

Here's a good question: Why should I bother with a clunky handcrank? Or a clunky dedicated radio? Lemme ask you this: with modern technology, in regards to a bugout situation and not being already in the middle of nowhere, why wouldn't I, say, pop online? Shit, I have a Droid, so even if I lose powe...

Re: Bug Out Radios; Why?

I'm going to play devil's advocate here: How much good info can you get off the radio? Firstly, the civil defense stuff needs to be instituted, which requires reams of things to occur. The Civil Defense people can't just walk into any station and tell them to piss off without an emergency being decl...

Re: ATS Warbelt- Does it fit into my preps?

I think that you should drop a chest rig from survival preps. If you have a chest rig, you're going to a gunfight, so prepare for that separately. Otherwise, a heavy beltline is a pretty good idea, I think. However, in order to not end up with suspenders and have it essentially BE the old ALICE rig,...

Re: Sigboy's <20lb GHB

The only suggestions I would have for this excellent setup is a ranger blanket and Benadryl. No one likes being sniffly while running from zombies. Oh, and nitrile gloves for your FAK, because people are dirty.
