Re: What have you bought lately? (Bug Out Version)

Got a CRKT Hammond Cruiser for, pretty much, free with credits from DVOR. Knife is WAY bigger than I thought so it'll probably go in my hunting pack and not get carried every day. Good, good knife though. Seems solid. Nice and sharp, good grips.

Re: What have you bought lately? (Bug Out Version)

This afternoon, I bought one of these: http://i5.walmartimages.com/dfw/dce07b8c-8529/k2-_6422fdd0-3b0c-4c85-af77-636f2e4c4093.v1.jpg and one of these: http://i5.walmartimages.com/dfw/dce07b8c-572a/k2-_657866f2-7db8-41ae-9df4-461742855e7a.v1.jpg Then tonight, I read a couple of reviews that said thes...

Re: Convincing spouse you're not nuts for prepping...

My wife thinks I go overboard as well. Watching the show Doomsday Preppers has shown her that the way I treat prepping in more of a "hobby" compared to those folks. She's good with having some food and water laid in, doesn't mind guns and ammo (she'd say I'm overboard on that stuff though - even tho...

Re: What have you bought lately? (Bug Out Version)

Schrade survival knife and hatchet. Hatchet went in the wife's BOB (she needed a new fire starter) and I've been EDCing the knife in my backpack.

Plus the occasional Coleman propane can.

Re: Teaching Kids about firearm safety

Something I did was have my kids sign a contract stating the understanding of the "Big 4" rules (treat every gun as though it's loaded, even if you know it's not - keep your finger out of the trigger guard until you're ready to shoot - never point a weapon at anything you don't want to put a bullet ...

Re: The Day of EDC Victory

Clearing some beaver dams off the BOL and at the end of the day some guys (the ones who always show up after the work is done, you know the type) pull up. One of them shuts the truck off and it won't restart. Battery cable has come loose. Not a tool among the three of them. Out comes my Gerber Diese...

Gerber Diesel. Never a problem with it. I have an old Leatherman too, which has also been very good but it's limiting because of the 2-handed opening.

Re: Your main folder/EDC?

That's phenomenal. Good for them.

Yeah, when I broke it, I shopped some just as an excuse to buy a new knife. I looked around at several Gerber, Cold Steel, and Benchmade folders and just could not find one I liked more that the old Blur. That's why I just put the tip back on this one and carried on.

Re: Small axe/hatchet needed

I have both Estwing and Gerber/Fiskars axes and hatchets. You just can't go wrong with either one. I've never heard of a broken Estwing myself, but I can't see how I could POSSIBLY break this Fiskars X15 and I've put it through some very serious paces. From tornado cleanup to camping trips to many, ...

Re: Your main folder/EDC?

I have EDCed the same Kershaw Blur, Tanto for the last, I think 6 years. I think I paid $70 for it. A few months ago I broke the tip off of it doing something it wasn't made to do. My fault, not the knife's. I put a point back on it with a grinder (badly) and it's still kicking. The assisted opening...

Springfield XDm45 Magazine Sleeve

I tried to put this in Bartertown but couldn't. I have a Springfield Xdm45 3.8 on which I use the Size 1 (the smallest) backstrap. This renders the Sizes 2 and 3 backstraps and mag sleeves pretty much useless to me. I'd like to trade my Size 2 and/or 3 mag sleeves to someone who uses them for their ...

IntroBows

My kids have expressed some interest in getting into archery. Probably have The Hunger Games to thank for this, but I'll take it. I know little-to-zero about archery equipment, but I want to get them some intro level bows. Would I be better served getting recurve bows or inexpensive compound bows to...

Re: Five-year-old's new bugout bag

Good for you, man. I definitely fight the kids' urge to vegitate and make them go outside and do things. They always have a blast when we do though. Mostly, it's about convincing them to take the jump over the threshold.

Re: What Did You Do Today To Prepare?

Swapped out the barrels of a couple of 10-22s. Moved the stainless barrel over to the wood stocked weapon and the black barrel over to the black, polymer stock.

Added a new barrel band with a rail to the black one and put a bipod on it. Fairly capable little stealth shooter now.

Re: What Did You Do Today To Prepare?

Not something I did today but I found out about it today. Went in for an exam and got weighed. The last time I was weighed was a few years ago & I was somewhere between 350 & 400 lbs. I'm now down to 265. I know I'm still a fat ass but I'd say that's a hell of an improvement. Dude, CONGRATULATIONS....

Re: What Did You Do Today To Prepare?

Got a new, climbing tree stand. Also bought 100 rounds of 9mm and 100 rounds of AK.

I've noticed that some of the inexpensive 7.62x39 stuff is finding its way back into Academy. That's good.
