Re: My Alcohol stove with windscreen

I've never even tried a CatStove - I've seen them, read about them, watched a friend fry eggs with his and a small teflon skillet... but never made and used one myself. Might as well, I have a small stock of the cans. Do it. While I feel there is no truly "best stove" (different horses for differen...

Re: My Alcohol stove with windscreen

Thread necro achievement- unlocked! I experimented with a bunch of alcohol stove designs (only a small fraction of what is out there, but a bunch!) I settled on two, well... three. The "Cat Can" stove is so incredibly easy to make, light, and use, there really isn't much excuse for using anything el...

Re: Ozark Trail 9x8 Hex Sport Dome Tent- Review!

I gave up on mine quite a while ago, but it had less to do with the tent itself and more to do with my migration to hammock camping. I never quite beat the leaking issues though. Nice to hear some people are still enjoying theirs, for the money it was pretty hard to beat.

No idea but I'll be interested to see how you make out.

I had left mine under the seat of my car for quite a long time and when I checked on it the batts had corroded slightly. Got them out in time and the flashlight still works great today.

Re: Browning Highlander Geo Dome tent 10x9 test pitch w/pics

I'm sure it could be done, one would just need to do something for the inside (bug net or nylon) and the outside (pu coated rain fly)

I think it's typical poly coated nylon, definitely not sil.

I think after the 1st NNYWCT (five now!) I posted a bunch of "things I learned". As we continue doing these trips, the learning curve shallows out but I still have a few thoughts/observations... The second night we reached about -9F. At home I probably have to get up and go to the bathroom in the mi...

I'm in. Got a "Ticket To The Moon" Double hammock on it's way to try out, maybe I can fit my entire self and sleeping bag in this one :) I did put in for the Friday off so I can get up there reasonably early.

Of course nobody in ZS would discuss trespassing on lands that are known to be POSTED, as this would be an illegal act and thus against forum rules to discuss. This chapter HAS done some legal urban exploration, for example the ruins of Tahawus and Frontier Town, both of which I can assure you are N...

Re: ZSNY Summer 2011 Campout, July 15-18 Headcount and Quest

I could, Saturday morning. I had no idea Famine was coming so I made arrangements to share my canoe with Bunsen (who has an injured shoulder and can't really paddle his own boat). Is someone going to have a seat open for Famine? oye.......so theLight's company has decided that he can't be spared on ...

Re: ZSNY Summer 2011 Campout, July 15-18

Jamie, is there anything like an agenda? I won't be able to be there until Saturday... don't think I'll have too much trouble paddling to the coords though (btdt). Thinking of staying at the Clear Pond passage site we scouted all three nights?

Any fallback plan if it's not available?

OK I've been singing the praises of Klasslite and Budlite stoves since... I dunno a long time. I finally got around to making a "Supercat". I started with this Chef Michaels 3 ounce aluminum can. The dog liked the little snack. Basically the same as a Fancy Feast can. Used instructions from here htt...

Re: Cipher's Venom Alcohol Stoves - 2 types (56k death)

I posted a short (clumsy) video showing how I use the wick on my Budlite stoves, but I haven't really gotten into the real advantage of it. If it is COLD, alcohol doesn't really want to light. Using a wick makes it easier, the relatively huge amount of surface area in the wick promotes evaporation w...
