What do y'all do with brass that's no longer safe to reload ?
Scrap it. A good buddy that shot LOTS of 22lr, before the craziness, collected it all and took it to the local scrap yard and traded it for scrap lead. I give all my scrap brass to him and in return he will cast bullets for me.

I am getting so old. I remember when you could by a crate of them and a 1000 rounds of ammo for half that price.

Re: Jack of all trades lever gun.

I know this isn't much help, but as the owner of all three, I vote for one of each. When I lived in NV my 357 trapper was my "truck" gun. Looking back, it probably wasn't the best of choices for the wide open spaces of NV, but man that thing is handy. Even the hottest of 357 loads were fun to shoot,...

I second the trigger, bed and float. A quality stock is also good money to spend. Also be sure your mag box isn't binding anything up. I normally run the bottom of mine on a belt sander to remove a little metal just to be safe. Just about every, if not every, rifle I own benefits from reloading. Alt...

Re: How can you buy milsurp in today's market?

Maybe so - but a one time lucky break is not what I count on. I've heard of people living when their parachute didn't open, but I won't be expecting to be that lucky. Will you? Honestly? I'll take a 5.56 or 5.45 against a black bear any day that ends in "y." It is the grizzlies which will prove tou...

I have a few theories, but I'm not stating them on a forum. Seventeen isn't all that many. A few handguns, rimfires, shotguns, and hunting rifles and you can get to 17 in a hurry.

Re: Need a scope and advice for long range hunting and shoot

I have question for the folks who do reload and chronogragh their ammo. How much of an improvement in consistency do you see with your hand loads versus premium high quality production ammo? I may be worth mentioning, there are other hidden gains to reloading your own ammo. Besides the consistent l...

Re: Need a scope and advice for long range hunting and shoot

There are several different ways to get where you want to go and endless more opinions on which is correct. I'll offer mine and take it for the $.02 it's worth. Personally I wouldn't mess with a BDC. I'd go with a Super Sniper MQ or find a nice used Leupold send it back to the factory and have a tar...

Me, I would really love to own either of these two items... or both. ATN X-SIGHT II HD 3-14x Fulton Armory M14 Service Rifle Back in the day, when I was a Navy gunner's mate, I loved my M-14 like a treasured pet. It shot great, felt great in the hands and had my absolute trust that it would hit any...

Re: Best Round/ Gun for Ursus Arctos Horribilis

Given current populations and accounting for historic range, I doubt there is much danger in Grizzly's making it to the "deep south" for several decades. While I don't have the exact figures, there were appox 250 in the lower 48 in 1975, there are about 2500 now with the southern most population in ...

I've hunted black bears in Ontario twice. The 12ga with slugs will be more than enough if you don't want to make a purchase. The bears will probably smell you, hear you, and be long gone before you get there.

Re: Battle Rifle and Designated Marksman Rifle in One

Well, it is physics. Bullet weight, BC, MV and whatever else get plugged into an equation and it spits out the drop. All those programs are doing the physics for you. Same thing with "Power"/energy. KE = 1/2MV^2 = the kinetic energy "power" of a bullet is 1/2 the mass of the bullet x the velocity sq...

Re: .243 vs .308 for new rifle

Personally, I really like the 243 and 6mm in general. I reload, so my options are considerable. For speed, I can load 55gr NBT's or I can go with the 105Amax at the other end. I own both a 243 and a 6-06 (30-06 necked down to 6mm). IMO, the 243 is an underrated cartridge. With a barrel twisted corre...

If I were looking for a an heirloom, legacy type rifle, then I'd go balls out on a Winchester or full custom. OH! I haven't seen any of the Winchester XPRs, but I've heard good things about them. I love Winchester Mod 70's. I own several from nearly untouched to full custom. However I hate the MOA ...

Re: Remington 700... is it a good buy in 2017??

If you can still find thing the stainless ADL's that were sold at Dick's Sporting Goods were a great buy IMO. I swapped out the factory stock with a used "Ti take-off" (a B&C you can still get from Stocky's stocks). Topped it with a used 6x Lupy and have a nice rig. Those ADL"s were running around $...

To me at least, it makes sense. If you resize the brass such that the external dimensions are the same from case to case, then any weight differences must be due to internal case dimensions, most likely. And if there are internal differences....volume differences of the case, then naturally it make...

Not really what you are discussing, but the title reminded me of something that was in "style" back when I was much younger. Back in high school, Levi's jean jackets were all the rage. Many of us carried a 22lr stuffed in the red Levi's label on the front top pocket. This was back in the 80's.

As someone that works at a medium caliber ammunition plant, I'm not terribly surprised by the results. While I am sure there are accuracy standards required by government contract, I can't find them in my links. I did find some velocity and pressure requirements, but that isn't quite the same.
