Re: water filtration system

Look at the Sawyer point zero two water filter system or Platypus GravityWorks. For the amount of water required in a portable setting you'll be spending a LOT of time sitting there pumping away to get the required 4 gallons per day for your family, where as, in a gravity system you can be doing oth...

Re: Storing\Cooking Beans\Rice\ETC with little fuel or how m

I'm so going to be sending you a email Erie... watch out for that! As others have said, start learning how to cook them NOW from scratch instead of doing it later and most likely ruining them when it really counts. I've learned soaking over night & pressure cookers work best for using as little fuel...

Group of guys I was with on Kelley's Island OH (several members of ZS29 BTW) did pretty good on the 20m at night. Hit a Alaska contact, Santa Barbra Cali (At least I think it was on 20m) and within in what 3 hrs made about 200 contacts mostly on east coast, WI, Alabama and a few in Tx. We were runni...

Re: Survivalist Reality Show Winner to Get Own Bunker

On a couple other sites it says the winners will win a "SPOT" in a survival shelter - they don't actually get their own private shelter. From Spike TV's site a competition reality show involving families who are vying for a spot in a state-of-the-art underground Vivos bunker fortified to withstand n...

Re: Family size meal stove

Has anyone thought about using the kerosene stoves or cookers? Like those found here? http://www.endtimesreport.com/kerosene_cookers.html I've been looking at getting the 16 wick or even the pressurized butterfly kero stove as a backup since we store a decent amount of kerosene.

Check out the Champion brand of generators also. I know several 'preppers' who swear by them, they aren't as quiet as Honda but their 3000w/4000 brand is about 68 decibels at 25ft. I also have read that many RVers enjoy them as a alternate to the more expensive Honda - Champion http://www.championpo...

Re: U.S. Survival AR-7

I've had a AR7 for nearly 27 years and the only complaints I have is that because of the front sight its hard to shoot accurately past 50 feet and it doesn't like the hyper velocity ammo. With a 4x scope it's been a pretty accurate rifle. Quality mags are hard to find, it is a fun rifle, mine is cur...

Re: Listerine as bug spray?

I tried it this summer and it didn't work what so ever. I tried the yellow listerine brand, Scope wintergreen and spearment. I tried it after reading about it in a homeopathic/green magazine saying it was a safer alternative to the Deet out today. While it said you'd have to reapply it every couple ...

Mora knives, fire steel rods, paracord braclets, ammo, if they wear glasses get their script & buy them a spare pair from zenioptical. I was actually thinking of doing that this year but getting scripts from friends/family members was next to impossible. Making up a 3 day food kit is a great idea, I...

Eastern Ohio get's pretty cold during the winter & it's fair amount of snow. My question is have you ever used this setup to go camping with before? That's one of the best ways to see if it's compatible for you as a BOB. Keep the weight at or just below 1/3 of your body weight unless you're one of t...

Re: When is canned food unsafe, and check your dates!

I've eaten canned food out of date by upwards of ten years. You make sure the can isn't puffed, empty it out, look inside to make sure there are no obvious corrosion spots, taste a little, and if all seems well chow down. Ditto - unless the package or can say's "expires on..." it's good for (to me ...

I have something similar made up for those unplanned moments. Sure you could add MRE's, freeze dried or dehydrated foods to increase calorie/protiens but it's what you have to work with from your cupboards & not have to do any special buying. This could also be considered a charity package to a neig...

Except for weapons loadout, this pack contains a...
