Re: Alcohol stove explosion.

Denatured alcohol, mineral spirits, linseed oil (boiled or regular), Japan drier, lacquer thinner, paint thinner, white gas... Tomorrow the blend plant will be making my new paint stripper that works as fast as methyl chloride but does kill people! Yeah, if it's poisonous or flammable and found in a...

Re: Alcohol stove explosion.

Can you give specifics on the brand of DE you were using? Different companies (Sunnyside, Crown, HEET, etc) are made of different amounts of ethyl alcohol, methyl alcohol, methyl ethyl ketone, and the like. This will have an effect on the flame characteristics when used as a fuel. Disclaimer: I’m th...

Rolling down I-45 in Houston

Forgive me ZS, for I have sinned. It's been 5-6 years since I last posted here. Luckily, I was shown the error of my ways earlier this week driving northbound on I-45 in Houston. Up ahead I spied a green SUV decked out in beautiful ZS regalia. I pulled alongside him and shouting through open windows...

Re: Foraging Texas classes at Eden Creek Farm

It's almost time for the foraging class at Eden Creek farm. There are a lot of great plants now due to the rains, but also mud and mosquitoes. Please wear footwear to deal with the slippery, muddy trails, some for of insect repellent, and plenty of drinking water. Check the weather that morning so a...

Foraging Texas classes at Eden Creek Farm

Hi all from your ZS friend to the south, Blast. I'll be doing two identical foraging classes on Saturday, May 23rd, 2015 at Eden Creek Farm near Blooming Grove. In the past lots of ZSC:019 members have attended, hopefully a bunch can come out again. :-) Here are the details: http://www.foragingtexas...

Just a sidenote: the inner bark of the Loblolly tree, common down here in the south, sucks. It's nothing like the inner bark of northern white pines.

Pathfinder GI canteen cookset review

A person on another board asked for opinions on the Dave Canterbury's canteen cookset . I figured I'd copy/paste my thoughts here, too. I have the Pathfinder stainless steel canteen cooking kit and it's...okay. The stove, cup, and lid are excellent and I love them. The cup is about almost 1/2" talle...

Take the afternoon class as it won't have the same time constraint of the morning class. We'll be able to talk more.

Re: San Jose, CA grid attack

I wonder if the attack was specifically done as part of a message to someone/some agency? You know, like a warning shot followed or preceded by an actual message. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a lot more information that wasn't released to the public. What was happening last April that might ...

I have some vague memories from back in the early 90's about Paladin Press selling a book specifically about knocking out power substations with a .22
Does anyone else recall this?

Warn friends and family, then go to the local plant nurseries, buy up every canna lily I could find and plant them all over my yard.

I would be interested myself, any limitations on rugrats or would it be best to let them spend the day elsewhere? If you can control them and keep them from disrupting the class go ahead and bring them. Children 12 and under are free, 13-17 are half price. 18 and up are full price. Kids should get ...
