Re: New Savage M 42?

I've owned one for a few weeks so it's still too early to make a final opinion but here's a a review so far. Cons: -The rear sight is blocky and the notch is small making for very slow target acquisition. -The front sight is tapered so it's a little fuzzy - The rear sight doesn't have enough vertica...

Re: bug out bicycle?

I ended up finding Halo twin rail courier tires at a bike shop in pittsburgh. http://www.halorims.com/ison/image/complete/tyha-cour-group.jpg Unfortunately they only had neon green and pink in stock (it was primarily a fixe shop). They are 700c x 24. I measured them w/ dial calipers and they are act...

Re: bug out bicycle?

I have a roadbike and around here, I end up cutting across grass fields, very rarely go on some hardpack through the woods and use a lot of fine gravel trails. Slicks are a bad call for all of these. I don't have enough clearance to go any bigger than a 25c. I just want to be able to go on different...

Re: bug out bicycle?

Does anyone know of a 700 x 23c or 700 x 25c tire with a somewhat aggressive tread? So far the best I can find are Kenda Karvs.

I tried this is a piece of lead from a mechanical pencil. No result with a 9 volt or a stun gun. It did vanished in a poof of smoke on the car battery.

Re: poor man's BOB contest?

jonas, its good to see this help someone. :D how far are the people who will use these kits be from home at any given time? i would add at least one bottle of water, and maybe a couple cliff bars to each kit. The max distance for any of them is no more than 30 miles with an average distance being c...

Re: poor man's BOB contest?

This contest inspired me to build some GHBs for my family. I ended up spending about $120 for 4. They cover some basics for people who didn't have any survival preps. http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd61/manbearadam/etsy041-1.jpg http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd61/manbearadam/etsy055-1.jpg

If 1=0 and 2=1 then 2=0. You better get 3. I think 3 is just equal to 3.

Photodegradation in Long Term Water Storage Containers

Is there any reason to be concerned about the effects of photodegradation on plastic water containers when they're kept for long term storage? I'm talking about food safe bpa free containers. Is the threat legitimate and worth storing water in a way that completely blocks out light? I assume that mo...

Re: Wash day: Making my own laundry soap. *Picture Heavy*

Just found washing soda. I'm trying a few different powdered variations (people are suggesting ivory soap instead of fels naptha, thinking about doing a 50/50 mix too), then I'm going to make the liquid version based off of what works best.

Thanks for posting this.

Re: Wash day: Making my own laundry soap. *Picture Heavy*

I went to a dozen stores looking for washing soda. 12 stores asking people for something they've never heard of. Explaining to their forced smile that I'm going to make my own laundry soap and that I'm not crazy. Where did I hear about it?...internet. My hopes are also really high now that I can get...

Re: Sako rifles?

My dad has a Sako in .264. Butter smooth action, flat shooter, pretty enough to ask out on a date. The only problem is finding replacement parts. He broke a spring in it 3 years ago and it's been a single shot ever since. Aside from buying a new action, I haven't found a way to fix it.

Re: 9mm/.380 shortage in my area

Online ordering is a good call if you buy enough to make up for shipping. Also, take note of the small white tags Wal-Mart puts on their out of stock ammo. They should either have the date they ran out or the date they expect to restock. I've never had to wait in line to buy ammo until now. It's unp...

Re: The actual usefulness of stunguns...

I picked up a stungun as a less than lethal option. I wouldn't trust my life to it. The manual claims it will incapacitate someone in a little under 10 seconds. That's a long time to be holding something on a person who is intent on biting off your nose. A winter coat stops 950,000 volts completely....

I'd be more concerned in the ammo serialization laws that keep popping up on the state level. They generally include language that would make you get rid of your non-serialized ammo before a certain date.

Re: 2 3/4" or 3" 00 Buck

I'd recommend stocking up on the load that patterns the best out of your gun. This is a nonissue at home defense ranges but for stocking up purposes, a load that gives you donut patterns 10-15 yards sooner isn't a bargain because it's $1.50 cheaper per box. There's an obvious cost benefit ratio with...

Re: Looking for info on a derringer revolver

20' is an unreasonable distance. I have a NAA mini in .22lr with an 1 5/8" barrel. I'd recommend it over the charter arms version. The safety on the mini is just a notch between each cylinder. It's much faster to cock the hammer than to fumble around pushing a cross bolt on something that small. At ...
