Re: Semi auto for bears
The Dupos are pretty nasty. I've shot a hog with one and it looked like a baseball blew out of the other side of them. (250-ish hog) I wish I had a picture of it. Actually it kinda looked more like an alien came out of its side. As far as penetration goes, I cant speak for that since the hog was muc...

Re: Bear and feral pigs whilst running
I think the bell is a good idea for mommas with cubs....which are imo the most dangerous. I have not seen the study, and curious how they managed to accomplish the study without self contamination. The way I would do it is to have a couple UAVs up looking for bears, and once they spotted one, just ...

We've had 100 packs for $12.99 last about 4 days, 555's for $69.99 about the same amount of time.

Re: Rossi Trifecta
My wife bought a trifecta a few years ago. The.22lr was plenty accurate. The .243 was about 2 MOA with a scope. I'm positive that could be improved drastically with some trigger work. Both had fiber optic sights. The scope stays attached to the barrel so you dont have to rezero when you switch barre...

Re: most useful caliber for lever action in my area
Here in AZ i wanted a "camp gun" with more oomph than my AR or .357 mag Security Six. I dont like the innaccuracy of my 12ga shotty. I finally settled on the Marlin 336Y. 33" (about the same as the AR) but is essentially a 16" 30-30. With a slightly shorter LOP. It is a hair over 6lbs and will drop ...

Re: Storage space too hot to keep shelf life. Advice please?
I keep about 3 shelves worth of food in my garage. I live in a suburb of phoenix. I have a side garage door with a security door. (Steel, locks...screen door) with the solid door shut it gets about 130F during the day. With it open and the screen door shut about 115F. We stock what we eat so the foo...

Re: Girl kills range instructor with Uzi
Complete stupidness. (Is that a word?) I lived in TX for 10 years. I live in AZ now (grew up here). I've seen 5 year olds shoot deer with their grandpappy's .270. (And no physical help from daddy other than verbal cues) I've seen strippers (not a judgement, long story, but asked her why she suddenly...
Re: Recover?
I might just pick one up. Right now I carry a stainless 1911 with wood grips when hiking/camping. I think pulling off the wood grips and using these when I go out would help keep the wood grips looking good and provide a rail for a light when I'm checking out that "bump in the night" around camp. As...

Re: Closest Call
One of the closest calls for me was in Iraq. A new tank crewman transferred in from basic training. I was the tank commander. My platoon was monitoring a major intersection near tikrit. Basically we were occupying a "police station" and our tanks were dispersed around the intersection. My tank blew ...
Recover?
Has anyone any experience with a new add on rail for 1911's by recover tactical?

Re: Bear and feral pigs whilst running
Hand loading really makes the 10mm get up there. If you look at Buffalo Bore, they are pretty hot. When I was in TX, never had a problem with hogs using a .45ACP with the 230 buffalo bore. I still carry the .45 in N AZ and there are tons of bears around there. Never had to shoot one as they usually ...

Re: Entry level bolt rifle?
If he hasn't picked yet: I have the Tikka T3 in .270. It is a great, GREAT rifle. I am an average shot, but I have confidence that I'll hit a 12"x12" plate at 500 yards. Budget rifle? Eh, marginally. Mine was around $550 6 years ago without a scope...that would put you around $1k with a good scope. ...

Re: Cost of .22 in your area
I went to an indoor gun range last week and they had .22 for $6 for 50 (Federal). But they would only sell to kids. Seriously. Adults had to buy it but they had to have a kid with them.
I didn't have a problem with that at all. Good job for a family place to stick to the policy too.

I had flat feet when I was in elementary school. I wore the Dr Scholls arch supports through puberty and no longer had flat feet...until I joined the Army. Running constantly and being on my feet caused plantar fasciitis. It feels like a sledge hammer hitting the bottom of your feet every time you t...

Re: Bicycling?
I have a mountain bike and a hybrid, I ride both for exercise. The ruggedness of a good mountain bike makes it much better for less improved surfaces. In loose rock or dirt the road tires don't grip, they are designed for low friction on smooth, solid surfaces (like asphalt). Definitely the mountain...
