Bacon Super Charged Hot Tent Rocket Stove.

Sorry for the cellphone pics. I was in a funk. Drove for over an hour to launch the Pulk sled only to find I hand more snow in my woods. Some snow at the trail head but it just ran out a few hundred feet into the pull. https://i.imgur.com/ogluZR2.jpg Too much gear to backpack in. I couldn't go home ...

Snow Peak Ti Spork Friction Fire Bearing Block.

I decided to revisit an old skill. For me the bearing block is the hardest part of the set to get working right on the fly. So like to improvise with items in my kit. What are the chances of me being wildly lost in the woods then forced to use a spork as a bearing block in a survival situation. Just...

More headed your way. Just passed Denver.
Yea that was a total flooding rain wash out. All the snow and ice from the last storm are now gone in just one day. Working on the pics now.

Hobo stoves for scout fires.

I really like twig stoves to cook food and boil water but they have another use. These stoves can make for nice low impact, clean burning scout/small campfires. Sets up faster than a fire ring and leaves less trace for times when discretion is the better part of valor. Lets go for a walk. https://i....

Looking Nasty this weekend.

Temps down to -6 wind chill maybe -25. Snow 1 to 2 feet. Guess it's time to test out the winter kit. Unless something comes up looking to take off tomorrow AM. If I have bars will update via phone. Not sure about the phone service. A questionable thing.

Re: Show Us Your Steak! | Men's Mental Health Awareness Challenge.

I've been kicking around the idea of a Biolite but I keep seeing bad reviews on them. How well does yours work? Ahh and my steak. http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-VPTan69_R1k/TmhIB1GXAqI/AAAAAAAAAFE/eoBLopUw_2Q/s1600/communion.jpg That one is the cookstove and is no longer made. Fantastic stove. I did a v...

Show Us Your Steak! | Men's Mental Health Awareness Challenge.

Show Us Your Steak! | Men's Mental Health Awareness Challenge is something which is being done via YouTube outdoors/survival creators tagging each to enhance awareness of men's mental health issue. Yes we are all strong self reliant people but no one is invincible. I participated to discuss a friend...

Re: Survival Kit Reviews; Pics and Comments ONLY!

I have been working on a new micro lanyard. The PSK is still a work in progress so not going to list all the contents. The light is a 4/7 Mini MK2. The runtimes and power plus size worked well for this kit. https://i.imgur.com/RV9J2IE.jpg https://i.imgur.com/FcwYOQl.jpg https://i.imgur.com/UDewNDI.j...

Might be ok for roads and trails or even a backup if it packs down small when deflated. Wouldn't survive the roses I was fighting today. Nasty invasive evil things.

Re: Mora Firecraft. Chaga!

played with some Chaga the other week. It's interesting stuff, we don't have it here in the PNW. It took to spark VERY easily and wouldn't stop burning. we found the lighter stuff worked really well, however the harder more dense did not. Do you use the harder part to make tea? It totally doesn't w...

So you use the fungus to both start the fire and make a tea?
I should work fine once dry though never tested doing both with the same chuck. I did save some from the tea to test that.

Mora Firecraft. Chaga!

Mora Firecraft. Chaga! This is the 3rd episode using a Mora knife to start fires. I go into the woods with only a Mora knife and a chunk of chaga. I found this chaga despite packing some. It's wet however did a video on field processing wet chaga. Still given it was humid and pushing into late after...

This depends on AO and situation. Often I can get away with a hatchet and small buck saw. https://i.imgur.com/StBfvEM.jpg DId a fine job processing that smaller wood. https://i.imgur.com/aCn0xXm.jpg Hawks are kinda nice as well. I had good experiences with Gearbest CS however keep in mind they also sent my channel gear for reviews but the two issues were unrelated so not sure one hand knows what the other is doing.

Re: 850 down vs 700 down?

If my memory is correct I say don't bother. It seems.... now winter was some months ago but the only difference I noticed was smaller packablity with higher power down. I don't think it will make a big difference. Not sure if the higher power holds it's loft better over time etc etc.

Re: My Pulk Sled System.

Yes that's possible however over some ground a sled made for snow tends to be a problem without snow. I learned this when pulk camping only to have my snow melt. It scraped along and sucked. But over some ground it was ok.
