Bow vs air rifle for shtf/prepping?

I was reading threw the other thread on air rifles and it got me thinking about this a bit, what is a better firearm alternative an air rifle or a bow?

Re: Deepeka Baskethilt

From what I've gathered, the MacNeils of Barra were largely pirates. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clan_MacNeil#:~:text=Clan%20MacNeil%2C%20also%20known%20in,clan%20of%20possibly%20Irish%20origin.&text=While%20the%20clan%20is%20centred,line%2C%20or%20possibly%20even%20unrelated. Re: Deepeka Baskethilt

Or this? http://www.kultofathena.com/product.asp?item=500920&name=Scottish+Cutlass I still think the broadsword and targe are a symbol of the Highlanders. Same with the Dirk. The hanger was used by prize fighters too, the stage-gladiators even dual wielded them. The Scottish were pretty big into th...

Re: English martial arts

What HEMA arts are you interested in? I think you're overestimating how much I've planned. I've gotten as far as "Huh, that might be neat." :clownshoes: Tons of quality sources both modern and historical to go off of and starting a club is not that difficult. HEMA Alliance can even provide insuranc...

Re: Deepeka Baskethilt

Been looking at a Scottish Basket hilt Backsword or Broadsword. It's more of a Renfair decoration, but if I buy something, it's going to be functional. I've been big into genealogy lately, and have obtained a kilt in family tartan, as well as a beautiful Devil's Edge Sgain Dubh, and Dirk in Damascu...

Re: English martial arts

Silver deliberately doesn't explain everything, like most sword manuals. You have to go to his lessons (400 years ago!). A lot of it is about managing distance and time (measure) but to do that you have to learn how to move. I33 will help a lot. So will learning how to dance. Also, I agree that Sil...

Re: English martial arts

Sword and buckler is fabulous fun. Get some safe training weapons (2mm rounded blades with no points), some super strong fencing masks, make up some bucklers and get some padded armour. Then go sparring. Pull all the blows and you'll learn what doesn't work quickly and safely. Silver deliberately d...

Re: melee weapons of choice

Quarterstaff or Sword, I don't know enough about staffs yet to really know how to use one but the leverage is insane plus its really just a walking stick. It was always a popular weapon due to the fact that you cant ban sticks like you could blades. The English and Scottish seem to be the ones most ...

Re: English martial arts

I've actually been interested in HEMA for a while, but the nearest group is 2 hours away, and meets on like Thursdays at 7pm. Unfortunately logistically problematic. :| Start a study group and go even every few months to touch base with that school. Work from YouTube videos and both instruction man...

English martial arts

This is my next path in HEMA(Historic European Martial Arts), my focus will be basket-hilted backsword, sword + buckler and quarterstaff. I will be starting a study group and popping in to a club probably once a month or so. The appeal to me is the simplicity of the system and the carry over from so...

Survival skills of a 17th century Highlander

This is a neat youtube channel that covers all types of survival skills that a Highlander would have used plus other stuff like fighting with a dirk, making a bow, making and using a targe(shield) ,among other things. Im not sure if this is the right location for it but I figured some here might end ...

Yeah, my people were Islanders, Barra and Colonsay. Some proliferation around Inverness. The highland style would probably make more sense [/quote] If youre interested in learning a little about the Scottish broadsword art these articles are pretty informative. This article is from the founder of th...

Re: Which is the better weapon Kukri or Katana?

If I "HAD" to pick, I'd go katana because it's longer. That's it. Hopefully, my baseball seeing will easily translate to difficult katana skills. But I'd prefer a blunt weapon. And if I had my pick of blade, it'd be a traditional machete. But now I'm thinking kukri. I dunno... I train a little in H...

Re: The rule "NO Politics" is just that a rule. Not a suggestion.

I like the rule of no political talk . Most survival forums are either real conservative or real liberal with no place for others really. This place dosnt even allow that to happen, its a good thing. Ive been a member here a few years and lurked for probably a decade. Its the only forum on survival I...

Re: AR15 for Home defense

Thanks guys. I just like the feel of revolvers and leverguns. I dont plan on waging war or seeking gun fights,I get the benefits of more modern combat oriented firearms but the bare minimum approach would suit me just fine. A Vaquero in .45 colt and a Gp100 in .357 would be just fine for me. For CC ...

Re: AR15 for Home defense

I personally do not even own an AR. It's not that I have a argument against them. It's just logistics and an awareness of probable use. My self loading rifles run more to WW2 era weapons. This is what I have stocked ammo and accessories for. If I were to now purchase a AR. I would have to buy , the...

Re: AR15 for Home defense

It's important when reading "facts" like those in the article on the Prepared Gun Owners site to understand they are cherry-picked to support what the conclusion of the article will be and to carefully examine the actual data presented. For example, the pistol calibers that are talked about are bei...
