Re: Carr Fire

The actual fires aren't the only things causing problems either. The smoke from them is hellacious and affecting other areas. I have a friend from college who lives in Reno and the town looks like it is on fire because so much of the Cali smoke is getting blown into the area and stays there because ...

Wow, Raptir, what a fascinating case. The build-up to it over around 80 years is interesting as well. Thanks for posting it.

Re: Minutemen groups in A PAW

A preparedness group is very different than a Minuteman Group. Part of the reason it started getting bumpy is because often these topics turn into a free for all; "No government, what type of illegal stuff can we now do?" Then the thread gets locked and everyone gets a sad. No I'm just going with m...

Re: Minutemen groups in A PAW

Not to sound like I'm avoiding the topic, JF89, but I agree with Flybynight (gah, I have to figure out a way to shorten your handle, so long to type but Fly doesn't sound right and night makes you sound like an emo superhero/vigilante). In almost any PAW scenario (with maybe the exception of all out...

Re: Dealing with picky eaters

I have a lot of experience with this. Two out of my three kiddos are picky eaters and my son (who is 7 now) was so bad at one point that he was diagnosed with ARFID (Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder). And it wasn't a, "starve him out" type of thing. He was already starving himself, at failu...

Re: Really nice, economical sheath maker on etsy.

That's beautiful. And the stitchwork is lovely. I get that there is utility and a purpose for sheaths made of other materials, but I'm not sure you can compete with leather for sheer visual appeal. That being said, that's my opinion and I love just about anything made of leather.

Re: making your mix bean blends

I would think that in general 1 cup of each, depending on how many you have, would work. According to Asymetryczna's ratios, you could do 4 cups of different beans to 8 cups water for a meal for 4-6 people as a main course. I would maybe mix the bean combinations up for different contrast and flavor...

Re: Wind-proof camp stove

Cool. The video demonstrating the unique building process in the link is interesting as well. Although, I am curious how expensive it will be due to the high-tech method of construction. I am also curious if it is made just to boil water or actually cook with a substance surrounding it. There's a di...

Re: The mod formerly known as KJ4VOV

Not to mention it's really hard to pretend to be a newbie with that "global moderator" tag. ETA: When I had my own forums, for a week before Halloween we allowed users to change their username by themselves and had a contest for the best costumes, then gave them a week to change back if they wanted...

Re: The mod formerly known as KJ4VOV

Aw, and here I was hoping that with the Prince reference you had changed your callsign to an indecipherable, ambiguous symbol. But, I guess saying something like, "this is circle with a weird curvy line at the bottom with an arrow coming off that and the arrow has a bar through it" might be a mouthf...

Re: Hi guys, i have a question, please help me

Welcome! I'm not a car person (although one of my goals is to learn the basic car maintenance no one would teach me growing up) so I can't really help answer your question. What I can say is that there are a lot of great people here knowledgeable about a wide variety of things who I'm sure can share...

Re: i have a question, need help?

I think my top concern with buying and/or re-locating to an abandoned tuberculosis hospital/asylum for any reason is simply all the horror movie ways you would probably die after re-locating there. I mean, "A man buys and moves his family into a long abandoned asylum" sounds like a the movie synopsi...

Re: Archery and progressive lenses

I'm not sure about progressive lenses, but I know I have trouble with my periphery when shooting because of my astigmatism combined with having a prescription so high I have to get high index lenses or they would look like coke bottle bottoms. That means the side of the lenses has a pretty distinct ...

Re: Pickled Eggs & Sausage

My Dad loves pickled eggs and your recipe sounds right up his alley. To be honest, I like boiled eggs, but have always been intimidated when I would see them floating in the jar as a kid. Which is silly, because I have eaten bugs and other more intimidating foodstuffs. Maybe it is because they are r...

As a pretty new member compared to most of you, I would still be really sad if the forum went down. I don't post a ton, mainly because I'm not very interested in guns and a lot of the everyday posting is about firearms. That being said, there are still a lot of discussions I find interesting and I e...

I love the series and really hope DA4 is actually going to come out some day and it's not just rumors. And if...

Re: Blueberries

You've mentioned you grow some in containers. What soil mixture do you use in that? I use larger containers and round out the soil with potting soil/ Peat moss 50/50. Once the bushes get too big I plant them. They can get quite large in a few years. Awesome, thanks for the info. As a crazy plant la...
