Re: Homemade Weapons

So, tools modified to become weapon/tools would qualify? I have been modifying the blade on an Estwing rigging axe to be more "tomahawk" shaped. I wanted to reduce the weight a little bit, and make a more efficient cutting edge, while retaining the hammer head for survival construction type projects...

Re: First Bow Advisement

I would go with the Sage, and not look back. We're talking about 2" difference in length? That's not enough difference to worry about... and, theoretically, the longer bows are "smoother" to shoot... again, I'm not sure 2" would make much difference there, but it's there. I've heard very good things...

ballistol.....
It has kind of a famous oder, but I like it.
Yes.... although "famous" is probably not the descriptive term I'd use... more like 3 day old dog puke....
that stuff STINKS....

but, it is a pretty good lube.

Re: Thinking about a 30-30

I've been wanting (not needing) a levergun in 3030 for a while now. It's been a bunch of years since my last one, and I've always liked them. My problem is, every time I think about scraping the money together, I look at my SKS. I've had it since the 80's... a Norinco that cost all of $99, IIRC. It ...

Re: Finally picked up a Handgun (Taurus PT709)

That's why I went with the Taurus PT111 G2.... 12 rounds (actually more like 11), and they have a GREAT trigger, very short reset, double strike capability. Accuracy has been quite a bit better than I expected... I did my LTC class with it and did a perfect score. (of course, that's not difficult to...

Re: Finally picked up a Handgun (Taurus PT709)

I hate to say it but you might want to ditch that Taurus and go with another brand. I'm not trying to be a "gun snob" but Taurus pistols are known for poor QC and poor customer service getting problems fixed. To give you an idea they recently had a recall of 100,00 or so pistols, in several differe...

Re: Ruger Mark II vs Buckmark

I have both of them... older versions. I have a MKII stainless, 5.5" bull barrel. It is the one gun I will never sell/trade. I've had it for close to 30 years. It hits where I point it, and is boringly reliable as long as I use CCI mini-mags, or equivalent. Cheap stuff doesn't always cycle properly....

Re: Finally picked up a Handgun (Taurus PT709)

from what I've heard, the only thing to watch out for is running out of ammo....

I've thought about getting one of those, but I already have a PT111 G2, so it's a little lower on my list of "wants" right now.

Re: Canik TP9 SF : mini review

I understand that's the same as the TP9SA, without the decock, and with dovetailed front sights? That's my only gripe about my SA... the front sight is too low. The gun shoots high... about 1.5 to 2" high at 7yds.. I've been pondering ways to raise/replace the sight... just haven't decided which way...

Re: Sighting in a .308 rifle...

A fired bullet starts dropping as soon as it leaves the barrel. Gravity works. DocFab is pretty much right on... the apogee is wherever YOU set it. You decide where you want it to be. It's best to look at it in the maximum point-blank range method. You decide what size your kill zone is, and you zer...

Re: Sighting in a .308 rifle...

If memory serves, most "deer-rifle" caliber rifles will be well served being sighted in about 3" high at 100 yards. This will give a maximum point-blank range of about 300 to 315 yards. In other words, from zero to 315 yards, your bullet will not be outside (high or low) of an approximate 8" circle ...

Re: Some nice looking bushcraft/survival knives.

$175 for a pretty plain, utiltarian knife is not a "fair price" to me. Too many other knives that would perform the same function for a third of that price. Of course, I'm unabashedly NOT a knife snob.

Re: Teach me on - 17 HMR

The 17HMR is a rimfire, and thus cannot be reloaded, practically. I know it's possible, but it's just more work than MOST people are capable of. Factory rimfire 17 cartridges are 17 HM2 (based on .22lr case) 17HMR (based on .22 mag case) 17 winchester mag (based on some kind of nail driving blank ca...

Re: Just Right Carbine in .45 ACP

Very nice review. Good, descriptive coverage. One thing I've been curious about with pistol caliber carbines (PCC's) is muzzle blast. I wonder if anyone has done any testing with a decibel meter to see how much, if any, quiter the carbines are than the pistols? I've thought that the ideal HD longarm...

Re: Taurus 9mm PT111 Gen 2 review

That pretty much matches my results with mine. How easy was it to load the full 12 rounds? My mags are a little "tight" on the last one.. The accuracy of this gun is pretty amazing for a sub-compact. Felt recoil is not bad at all. I've shot larger handuns that felt worse. This was my last target, st...

Re: Cheap 9mm or. 22 hand gun

I predict you'll like it. I shot some 115's, and some 147's, and recoil is really not bad at all. Pretty easy to stay on target. My only complaint so far is that getting that 12th round in the mag is a little tough. Taurus recommends putting in 10, then rapping the mag on its base to help "settle" t...

Re: Cheap 9mm or. 22 hand gun

+2 on the Taurus PT111 G2. I researched this one quite a bit before buying, and haven't read/heard any true negatives yet. It's not your "typical" Taurus. I've only got about 150 rounds through mine as we speak, but I plan to put a LOT more through it in the coming months. They feel "right", and are...

Re: Your main folder/EDC?

Lately, my edc folder has been my CRKT Swindle. I like the almost straight edge on it... makes it simple for a simple guy to sharpen. Holds an edge well, and is relatively easy to access. It has an assisted kind of opening. The only "downside" is the liner lock.... I've never been a big fan of that ...

Greetings... Sort of found the forum accidentally... was searching for some type of review of a 9mm pistol, and was able to access this site while at work. Usually I cannot access anything to do with "weapons"... or tobacco, or alcohol.... none of the good stuff. I've been into guns for, oh... about...
