What ammo to choose while in Svalbard?

So you have to go to Svalbard Island which is North of Norway for business reasons. Since they have a lot of polar bears you are required to purchase a bolt action rifle and ammo when you get there and take it around with you. You don't know what ammo they have or even if it's just regular FMJ. You ...

Re: Considering buying an SKS, but...

What about the Remington 7400 or one of it's parent rifles the 740 and 742. It's a semi auto, 50 state legal, and can be had in calibers .243 up to 30"06. I think it held 5 rounds in the internal magazine. From what I have read the 243 and 308 versions are very reliable. The 30'06 and 270 Winchester...

Re: New Firearm Purchase (Kinda rare)

So took the old M-95 out shooting today. My impressions 1. At 100 yards with the horizontal sight up and using the base 100 scrit (sp?) range it shot surprisingly well for a 100+ year old rifle. It was just a hair to the right but vertical axis dead on. 2. The Nazi surplus ammo worked well (shot 10 ...

Re: Considering buying an SKS, but...

I have heard from many different Mini-30 owners that say it feeds American brass just fine but chokes on steel cased ammo (the cheap stuff). I have a Mini-14 and like it but for the money I would stay way from the the Mini-30.

Re: Considering buying an SKS, but...

On the parts bit, I can't say for certain as I kept mine stock, but if you add certain non original components to the gun (that's not sights, sling, scope) I believe you have to make sure you are still 922Y compliant to be legal in the US. If you add a new feature to certain aspects of the gun you h...

Re: Considering buying an SKS, but...

I own a Norinco SKS which I like a lot. The differences between it and the Yugo are lack of the grenade launcher and the different bayonet. Also I can't say if it's just my Norinco or all of them but mine holds 11 rounds in the internal magazine even if the clips are 10 rounders. The bayonet on the ...

Re: Jack of all trades lever gun.

If you want to be a bit different. I know it's not a lever gun but maybe 30-40 Krag? It was at one time considered a good Elk cartridge and the feeding mechanism is way different. I always like to pick something a little out of the box. https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcR4uMQV7iB...

New Firearm Purchase (Kinda rare)

I just bought an M95 Steryer Carbine in 8x56 Hungarian rimmed (pics aren't mine but representative). It is in pristine condition with a great barrel.Mine was made in Ausrtria sometime between 1896-1918 that's as close as I can date it. It's a lightweight carbine with a straight pull bolt action with...

Re: Tunnel Rat Poll

One of the things based on my reading was that the 45 was the common option but that some rats didn't like them due to muzzle flash. The High Standard in 22 suppressed was available to spec ops troops and if you were lucky you might get one. Some one said earlier they wanted a suppressed 38 revolver...

Re: Concealed Carry choice

Update: Yesterday I bought a S&W M&P Bodyguard 38 special. I sure am glad I put it in the poll :awesome: I haven't shot it yet but am looking forward to doing so. I went with this one for 3 reasons 1. Price - it was 460.00 new which I consider fair 2. Trigger- it''s double action only and it's quite...

Re: How long can you store tap water without chlorinating? (UK)

I keep a 5 gallon container filled with tap water and add a cap full of regular bleach. I empty and refill every 4 months. I have had no problems. The water tastes fine and no bad smells so it works. I keep it in my garage which is normally around 70 deg Fahrenheit. I just put a piece of tape on top...

So is it mainly for commuting and some camping trails? If so maybe the Volvo v60 t5 AWD model. That's like spot on at 35,000 has more ground clearance than regular sedan but at the same time not up their with a serious 4x4. It's got a nice interior and lots of space and lots of safety features. The ...

Re: Consolidating my 9mm collection to one platform

I have the P-07 Duty CZ (the first year of production)and I think the mags for that may be different. It says in the manual and on the magazines that they hold 16 rounds. After much sweating, pushing, and cursing I can safely say they do not. They hold 15 rounds and not one more. :vmad:

Re: Consolidating my 9mm collection to one platform

All are good guns. I have owned a Walther and currently own a CZ. They were and are accurate and reliable but if you needed a part or a magazine it was pricey. Usually you will have to order the magazines from the company and they aren't cheap. I literally couldn't find a magazine for sale in any sh...
