New Firearm Purchase (Kinda rare)

I just bought an M95 Steryer Carbine in 8x56 Hungarian rimmed (pics aren't mine but representative). It is in pristine condition with a great barrel.Mine was made in Ausrtria sometime between 1896-1918 that's as close as I can date it. It's a lightweight carbine with a straight pull bolt action with...

Re: Tunnel Rat Poll

One of the things based on my reading was that the 45 was the common option but that some rats didn't like them due to muzzle flash. The High Standard in 22 suppressed was available to spec ops troops and if you were lucky you might get one. Some one said earlier they wanted a suppressed 38 revolver...

Re: Concealed Carry choice

Update: Yesterday I bought a S&W M&P Bodyguard 38 special. I sure am glad I put it in the poll :awesome: I haven't shot it yet but am looking forward to doing so. I went with this one for 3 reasons 1. Price - it was 460.00 new which I consider fair 2. Trigger- it''s double action only and it's quite...

Re: How long can you store tap water without chlorinating? (UK)

I keep a 5 gallon container filled with tap water and add a cap full of regular bleach. I empty and refill every 4 months. I have had no problems. The water tastes fine and no bad smells so it works. I keep it in my garage which is normally around 70 deg Fahrenheit. I just put a piece of tape on top...

Re: New Car/SUV/Truck

So is it mainly for commuting and some camping trails? If so maybe the Volvo v60 t5 AWD model. That's like spot on at 35,000 has more ground clearance than regular sedan but at the same time not up their with a serious 4x4. It's got a nice interior and lots of space and lots of safety features. The ...

Re: Consolidating my 9mm collection to one platform

I have the P-07 Duty CZ (the first year of production)and I think the mags for that may be different. It says in the manual and on the magazines that they hold 16 rounds. After much sweating, pushing, and cursing I can safely say they do not. They hold 15 rounds and not one more. :vmad:

Re: Consolidating my 9mm collection to one platform

All are good guns. I have owned a Walther and currently own a CZ. They were and are accurate and reliable but if you needed a part or a magazine it was pricey. Usually you will have to order the magazines from the company and they aren't cheap. I literally couldn't find a magazine for sale in any sh...

Re: Looking for thoughts on a knife...

Just a thought, you could go old school. Find an old file (a rasp in some places) or a Sling blade, some people call it a Kizer blade, but I call it a sling blade.mmhmm. Make your knife from that and fit your own handle.

Re: Cold War Doctrine in Europe

Sorry, I have been away for a while. I had computer issues. I would agree that some of the eastern European countries might want to just surrender or claim neutrality instead of fighting. The same might be said of western or at least western aligned forces as well. Nobody, counter argued the previou...

Re: Cold War Doctrine in Europe

That's true it was quite a lopsided victory against Soviet material a few counterpoints though. 1. the material they received were the downgraded export versions, sort of the like the M1's we sell to Egypt compared to the M1A and M1A2's we use. 2. Iraq was really founded as a country in 1920. Since ...

Re: Cold War Doctrine in Europe

As the Op I have to say I would go with East. In this era the Soviets along with the Warsaw pact countries would have an overwhelming numbers advantage in heavy weapons. The heavy armor would be almost impossible to stop. Even the most nationalistic western generals at the time thought the Soviets w...

Re: hello everyone, i'm new member, everyone help me

Some will be much better suited to answer your question but I can tell you what I do. A 10 gallon container with a cap full of bleach I keep for 5-6 months then refill. On the food front I assume you mean dehydrated food. That can last a good while (many years if good quality) if its cans or pickled ...

Cold War Doctrine in Europe

So it's the beginning of the cold war and your are the general in charge (or committee) of establishing the type of field weapons to be deployed in a cold war you think may turn hot. Which strategy will you employ and why based off the historical Eastern vs Western historical realities of the time? ...

Re: Will Italy Spark the Next Eurozone Financial Crisis?

I would argue no European country has been as negatively affected as Italy by adoption of the Euro. If you look back to post WW2 Italy it's primary source of outside income was in the production of cheap things. An example ( if you were a child of the 80's) almost all the cheap plastic toys imported...

Re: Sweden Urges It’s Citizens to Prepare for Invasion

What they really did was surrender. I guess that's one way to avoid an invasion. I mean ask the people who surrendered to the Mongols the same question, heck ask the Parisians in 1940. When the German's control all the trains in your country, the electric grid, and use your airfields and artillery r...
