Some of my experiences

When I am fishing with my regular gear I use a piece of worms or spikes to sweeten my lures. I just put it on the trailing hook and I seem to do much better than any of my fishing buddies. I have also fished quite a bit using my survival fishing kits. (no pole just line, hooks) to see if it would wor...

Local High school closes due to flu

A local high school here was closed today due to the flu. I have never seen that before. They say that 1/4 of the students are sick from the flu so they shut down the school and are decontaminating it.

2$ Knife

I saw 2 different "mora" type knives that BUDK had online for $1.99 and 3.99 each so I figured what the heck. I ordered 2 of each of them and got em in the mail today. What a great deal. They are a lot like a mora knife but cheaper. I havent really "tested" them but they seem to be as sturdy and sha...

After the gulf war when we made camp, we used to use bottoms cut out of 55 gal drums . Once a week we would mix in deisel fuel and a little gas and burn it. Some unlucky slob would have to stir it every now and then as it burned. Im sure it would work here as well if you had fuel to burn and didnt m...

I have heard that 3/4 " fire resistant plywood is pretty much "bulletproof" against most handguns (Not rifles). I haven't tested that claim yet , But I mean to. If it works, Thats what I will use on the walls of my saferoom.

COOK IT ON YOUR PERSON

I read somewhere that if you put instant rice in a plastic bag with some water and carry it around next to your body while you are hiking or whatever it will cook itself with your body heat. By then end of the day you will have soft cooked rice. I have never tried it though but I plan to next time I...

Tactical stance

I shoot from a tactical stance . The same stance as I fight hand to hand from. That way you can learn and ingrain one stance into your mind/ body. Then it is a seamless transitioning over from weapon to weapon and into hand to hand/ knife fiighting if neccassary.

Lantern

Well this morning I put 3 tbsp in the can . It filled it about 1/3 of the way. I used a 4" x 4" piece of old tshirt. It burned for a little over 2 1/2 hours. Next Ill do a couple of modifications on it and try and boil some water this afternoon. It actually burns pretty clean with Crisco. The amount...

Eskimo lanter

I have been interested in using an eskimo stone lamp. They call it a "kudlik, kudliq or qudlliq" They scrape the fat from a seal and use it in their lantern which they also use to cook and heat their igloos. It has become a symbol of survival with the eskimo people. I am trying to find a place to bu...

Sailboat

I have wanted a bug out sailboa for a couple of years. This year it looks as though I may be able to actually get one. 20-22 foot boat. Until then my kayaks are still a means of gathering food and bugging out if neccassary. I live 10-15 minute walk from water.
