Re: .223 semiautomatic rifle in the car...

The probability that you would need to employ an AK in such an expedient way is extremely low while the probability that administrative problems will arise is high; that is, you're more likely to experience theft, vandalism, and police attention. Stick to the pistol and use the vehicle to maneuver. ...

Re: Fighting Kit?!

JD has a point: the US Army wins battles because of fire superiority (or at least that's a primary tactic). Technically, that's 3 to 1. Your ability to employ direct fire (and indirect fire if possible) is the single most important factor. Everything else like first aid is implied and part of a basi...

Re: Wearing MARPAT in public?

Politicians spend too much money learning how to influence someone's perception of them through their dress for me to buy the claims that we don't make snap judgements based on clothing. Not absolute judgements, but there's definitely a "sizing up" that happens before people speak. I have no doubt ...

Re: All purpose "Help me build my AR" thread.

The first and most important question to ask yourself before beginning an AR15/M4 quest is: Do I want 5.56 or 7.62? I personally like 7.62. I have heard of interchangeable uppers. Has anyone had experience with this? I own both I don't think 5.56 to 7.62 uppers OR lowers are interchangeable in any ...

Re: First Pistol Purchase

I've always been a fan of the H&K sub compacts. I hear Sig has a nice new sub compact, but I have not fired it. Stick with 45 ACP unless you have concerns about weight or cost. In the end the best advice is find a friend and shoot some rounds with models you're interested in. Or find a range that ha...

Re: Wearing MARPAT in public?

My hypothesis is that military equipment (GI) is not better than civilian equipment. To test this hypothesis, investigate what equipment you see special operations using across the services. In my own experience, I know that these groups make liberal use of their gov credit cards to purchase non-GI ...

Re: Mission Spec Llama -- Anyone know about these?

I guess I don't understand the low-profile benefit. I feel like this feature only reduces the overall liters of the pack while not providing real tactical benefit. Also, the price is unreasonable. And who carries a personal weapon on their backpack (snipers and heavy weapons excluded)?

I'm not sure how this would best work in your country, but I typically pack maps of my adjoining states for long-term movement and planning. I would always carry water tabs with that filter, as I've seen it fail quickly (less than 100 liters).

Re: questions for plate carrier set up

You might also at least try positioning the hydration carrier long-ways across your upper back. Sounds strange, but it really helped with the long MRAP rides in my time. You could also try one of those canteen-type bladders, but many have said that it's simply not enough water, and the loss of space...
