I say this in all due respect, having lived in in Alayaska for one year. How do you deal with -43?
In my experience -25 is like stepping into another world where auto batteries start to freeze, doors freeze shut and wood stoves do not produce heat!

Personally, I deal by complaining to strangers on the Internet.

you get used to it honestly. Been here goin on 23 years now. Just start the fireplace, curl up on the wife and watch tv. Mebbe work on the rifles over the winter. Just keep busy and you'll be fine.

I came extremely close to shooting a moose last night. The hammer was cocked back, my finger was on the trigger, and the moose's nose was less than a foot from my dog's behind. Luckily at the last moment my dog managed to dodge out of the way, giving her enough of a head start to get back inside. The moose was so pissed that I was worried she was going to come charging after the dog right into the house.

My buddy was in the same spot a while back. Ended up having to drop a moose with his m4gery. 1 shot too.

Apparently the moose tried to make pate while this geese and ducks were still alive...

Glad your dog is ok quazi

Sorry about your friend's livestock.

The moose sure are cranky when the snow gets deep. Understandably so; they're hungry, easy pickings for wolves, and get run around by cars if they try to stick to the roads. I feel bad for them, but I'd still kill one to protect my animals and my family.

On the upside of all that... mmm... steak :D

Hopefully I'll be able to get out and go moose hunting this year. Probably not, but would be nice, especially if doc simon is still coming up.

Thats actually a good idea though. Sometime or another, we need to have an AK or 005 guys hunting trip. Get to try out our gear and find steak in its wild habitat.

Off the wall question here guys. Should my wife and i move to anchorage this summer, would anyone be able to help us move? Figure worst case, we'd end up renting a uhaul but those are kind of pricey.

Depending on when it happens I could help. I'll be in and out of the state at random times this summer. I know for sure I'll be gone for part of May. Just keep me informed and I'll do what I can. I have Ford Ranger so I can at least move boxes. Large furniture doesn't fit so great in it.

We could be game to help, but we have no car as yet... Also depends upon timing. We'll be out end of June and possibly August as well.

I might be able to help, but I'll probably be down in Trapper Creek this summer.

I have no vehicle, so I'm not of much use.

Lol i was sitting here going "WTF he just got here" Glad to know you are sticking around :D

Figure we probably wont know anything about the move for some time yet. Still have to pay off the rest of the bills and whatnot first. Considering between the wife and i, we make maybe 1400 a month, that will take a bit. I seriously need a better job.

Hey guys, I just got this email from Sen. Therriault about current bills pending in the state. Hope this gives everyone some good info :)

*note* I did not get the attachment of the bill he was speaking of. Error in my email program I guess.

Dear XXX,

Thank you for taking the time to contact my office expressing support for our constitutional right to keep and bear arms.

My office has received numerous constituent emails urging the Alaska Legislature to be on record in opposing any efforts by Congress or President Obama to restrict the use or manufacture of firearms, ammunition, and related accessories. In reference to the Montana legislation, Representative Mike Kelly has introduced House Bill (HB) 186, which contains many of the same provisions the Montana legislature is currently considering. HB 186 is currently in the House Judiciary committee where is awaits a hearing. I have attached a copy of the bill to this email and if you have any further questions, Rep. Kelly can be reached at 866-465-4976.

On the Senate side, I introduced Senate Joint Resolution (SJR 6) "Urging the United States Congress to reject H.R. 45, the Blair Holt's Firearm Licensing and Record of Sale Act of 2009." This congressional legislation would represent the first step towards mandatory firearm licensing in America. At my request, language identical to SJR 6 was introduced in the state House of Representatives by Representative John Harris. This measure, HJR 17, passed unanimously in the House and is scheduled for a Senate vote sometime next week. I appreciate the assistance of Rep. Harris in making sure the Alaska Legislature makes a formal statement opposing any federal encroachment on our right to keep and bear arms.

I have also introduced Senate Joint Resolution (SJR) 3 to support the continuation of George W. Bush's national park rule that allows park visitors to carry loaded and concealed firearms into national parks and wildlife refuges. In the past, guns had been allowed in these areas only if they were unloaded and stored or dismantled. As you can imagine, such restrictions make a gun of little use against attacking predators while hiking in the back country. SJR 3 is currently being held in the Senate Rules Committee.

Thank you again for contacting my interest and for your interest in the legislative process. I have always staunchly supported our 2nd Amendment rights and my staff is actively tracking this issue at the state and national level.

Sincerely,

Gene Therriault
Senate District F

Its snowing out of a clear blue sky. I am torn. On the one hand, I enjoy the fact that it is snowing. On the other hand, I hate the evil day star and precipitation usually means that vile bright thing is cowering, as it should be, behind clouds. So, I get some snow, but then there is that stupid evil day star...

The smoke was bad today. Usually it doesn't bother me, but this summer it's been making me feel bad.

Here's a picture a friend of mine took:

I'm glad I wasn't in Fairbanks during the big fires back in... was it 2004?
