That's exactly what I was wondering. I understand y'all were camping with your vehicles nearby so I wasn't sure if you'd tried packing it all up as though you'd be hiking or bugging out with it. This is just conjecture, but with all the snow barriers and layers of insulation you were using, I bet you'd have been fine even with a wind.

Were you all filtering or treating the lake water? If so, what did you use and how did it perform?

I was not packed for hiking...using the luxury of the car. Deschain was more geared for hiking. then again, if I were to gear up for winter hiking/camping, I'd ditch the poly bags and go for down sleeping bags.

Water was boiled before drinking, I had no problem with it except for a few floaties, hehe. I think Deschain drank it straight. :o

That is indeed the manner of my rolling. I drank it straight, like a man. Such are my manly rollings.

I was impressed with that thing. Packed, it didn't look much bigger than my SG Bivy tent. Looked nice, functional and sturdy when up, too.

It's a USMC 2 man tent. I'll borrow one of Woodswalker's pics for comparison:

It's a solid tent that compresses down better than that (but not by much). Fits nicely between the main bag and valise of my 64 when placed beside my sleeping mat. It weighs about 10 pounds, and is roomy enough for two people my size, with a little breathing room.

My tarp tent, plus guy linjes, plus seam sealing, plus stow bag comes in at ~ 17.5 ounce or a little over a pound.

In the winter though, I am not using the ultra light ground cloth, but a thick walmart blue tarp.

I really wish I could have stayed the whole weekend, and I feel like a douche for bagging on the stew I was planning for Saturday, but we were both running fevers, and we didn't want our situation to get dangerous. Bad idea to become a zombie in the middle of zombie hunters

That said... Is it next year yet? We're both looking forward to doing this again, that area is absolutely gorgeous, and if the weather is that warm again, we'll be packing lighter.

No worries, hopefully you two are feeling better. It'd suck to be feeling like crap out there in the cold.
