I may be able to supply a few extra and fun firearms for folks to try on the trip. As the date draws closer I'll start up a poll in the ZS-007 forum on what everyone would like me to bring. I'll supply some ammo, but donations (of ammo or money for ammo) are always encouraged. :-D

Festus, if I ask really nicely, would you find room to bring your Saiga again? That thing was awesome.

Oh man, the Garand and the 30-30 were sweeeeeet. Also, I think Bangbang wants to bring his SMLE.

Absolutely will. And if I get them in time, an SKS and a 1911 (the handgun is a stretch because of Canada, and it'd be chinese so I dunno if I could even bring either of those to the states...). I'll either have a shotgun or a levergun by then as wll/instead of the sks or 1911. Depends on funds and whatnot.

The .303's a for sure though. Feel free to bring anything you want to feed it, fix it, and otherwise make it cool. I'll have some ammo, but the only ammo i can really find is a bit over 20$ per box of 20.

Yep. I've had the honor of putting a couple clips through (that's right, CLIPS) and it's a BAD DADDY.

Be there or be square.

NFA- I received my Patagonia DAS Parka yesterday and noticed there is a nice big mesh pocket on the inside to store nalgenes to prevent them from freezing. I'm anxious for u to get yours so u can do your dog walks at 4am and test it out at -11degrees F. haha.

My Saiga 12 will be making the trip with me, as will my Win. 94 .30-30. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure I can bring my Saiga x39, as long as I only bring the 10-rounder. Yes? If so, that'll be coming too.

No pistol play, though. I don't think they make a 10 round mag for my pistol

Off to research.

I have a x39. Fine in NY so long as it's 922r compliant (stock or modified with correct USA part count). Mine is stone stock at the moment, I have some conversion parts but keep forgetting to order the rest.

I thought so. Mine's stock as well.

I just found out they do in fact make 10 round mags for my pistol - but looking again at the laws, it is even worth it? I'm not even sure it's legal for me to bring a pistol into the state.

It's not. Much as it pains me to say it, leave 'em home. But bring the Saigas (Saigae?)

Had a chance to test out my -30 bag (Browning by Slumberjack) at a recent NY camping trip. Truth be told, it only got down to maybe +20F. Yeah I was toasty warm, but I wasn't THAT warm- know what I mean? Point of this being, although I'm toting a -30 bag, I'll be taking additional measures in case of nuclear winter-level cold. Various sizes of chemical heating packs, I asked Santa for a surplus wool blanket that I could use inside the sleeping bag, and space allowing I will bring my +30 rectangle bag to put the whole works inside. Also it's almost a certainty that I'll be rocking a balaclava when sleeping (didn't bother with a hat this last trip).

Also by all means, if you're going to use rectangle bags (some people don't have or can't stand a mummy), bring a fleece or similar blanket you can use to kind of "seal up" around your head and shoulders. You lose a lot of body heat through the opening in the bag.

I only post all this to hopefully help prevent those less experienced with winter camping from getting Rickrolled hardcore and freezing their cans off. Don't get cocky because you have a zero bag or even a -30 bag... ratings don't seem to mean that much (at least in the price ranges where I live) and it can get colder than that!

Watch having said all that, it will be an indian summer and we'll have lows of like +40F, d'oh!

Sounds great. I'm just not sure about the 6 hour drive from southern NH. Yeah I know somebody is coming from Maine. I'm in the middle of obtaining the gear.

As per handguns: New York state has no reciprocity to other states or countries as far as handguns go, so no dice on that one folks. :(

I sent the paperwork packet out to everyone who has expressed an interest in attending via email a few days ago, please get it back to me asap.

If you are interested in attending the NNY09WCT, but did not receive the packet via email from me: check your spam folder (some email programs hate me  )
send me a PM or email and I'll send another one out to you by ninja

Jamie

PS - we're snowing up here for the foreseeable future, so there may be yards of snow awaiting you when you arrive in February...

Kinda OT I guess but it was over 5 hours from Manhattan to Brewster (about 66 miles). I'd still be out there if it weren't for the magic that is Garmin.

A snowstorm like this during the WCT would be kickass. Or, would kick our ass.

We've had like 8-10 inches since noon!!!

I once got dumped on while winter camping in the Tug Hill region...18" overnight...it was pitch black in my tent the next morning, and I had to dig my way up and out...that would be cool during the NNY09WCT (unless Famine brings the same tent as last year  )...

Closer to 6" around here. All the damn fools were out there getting stuck in the middle of the road, backing traffic up for miles. Especially the big trucks, whose operators one might think would know better. The buses in the city all had spiffy cables installed on their drive wheels- at least someone knows how to be prepared (Winterforce snow tires does the trick for me)

We've had a moderate 8" or so here since 3. I miss Northern Maine.

Anyway, I have learned that due to unforeseen car troubles, my roommate and his girlfriend will not be coming with me. Therefore, I do have room for at least one more - I don't know if I could do two, with all the gear. But I can certainly give one of the New Hampshire-ites a ride, if desired.
