Mock Bug Out Friday November 7th

Postby PistolPete » Wed Nov 05, 2008 1:48 pm

It's been quite a while so it's time to have another mock bug-out. In holding with recent events, this MBO will also have a theme. This time, the theme will be a little tongue in cheek. ;-)

The theme for this MBO is civil unrest resulting from election dissatisfaction. In the weeks leading up to the elections there were concerns about the potential for rioting based on the outcome of the election. Since Obama won, we'll have to pretend the Elephants are up in arms burning town bodegas and turning over cars. Sebastian and Buffy have now led a mob of people wearing golf pants and sweater vests into your neighborhood weilding golf clubs created from the newest space-aged materials. It's time to bug out.

As we have in the past, we'll meet at the Tap Room at 7p on Friday night (nov 7th). I'll have a course planned out so we can see new parts of our fantastic city at night. Distance should be around 6 miles, so anyone should be able to hoof it with us. We've had a dude on crutches before, so you have no excuse!

Show up with your full-blown Bug Out Bag, the one you'd grab when you have to evacuate your home. There will be a contest and a (crappy) prize for the best prepared. Weather should be ideal for a short hike. For anyone interested in hanging out afterwards, I'm going to go to the Tin Can (Locust) right down the road and celebrate or mourn the election results with cheap beer. (I'm not saying which I'll be doing since that violates forum rules)

To summarize:

Mock Bug Out
Nov 7th
7 pm - 10 pm (approximate)
Tap Room at the edge of downtown

Feel free to respond to this post or pm me with any questions.

Thanks for the timely warning :P
I'll definitely try to be there. What time do you think you'll start marching?
Also, I love The Tin Can.

Good point. I do need practice driving to south city then walking 6 miles for when the real shit hits the fan.
Did you put this in the mailing list?

I'm on the verge of doing that.

Not south city, where downtown meets mid-town. Geographically center. Geez, you bumpkins don't know where you're at in the city.

:)

Actually, the first couple of these we did in woodsy areas, but figured that wasn't very realistic. Plus, I hate camping.

I was thinking, a few months ago, about how cool it would be to do a walk from StL out to another town, like...I dunno....Union, where we could all camp in someone's (Hawk's) back yard, and have hot showers and cold beer.
Then I realized that walking along the interstate is dangerous.

That would be cool. We could find another way to go other than slogging along next to the highway. It's a bit far to go in one day. We could stage it, start at the tap room, hike to my place (12 miles), go to Bellers old place (if he still has it) in St Chuck, find somebody in Eureka, then Union. That would better simulate a real bug out.

Of course we'd have to bring along babies and dogs and stuff to make it real. And add zombies. That would be a cool practice run.

St Chuck would be way out of the way though. You city kids don't know how to get out of the city, do you? :P
I would be down for a long walk, but I'll likely empty my bugout bag and line it with a trash bag and fill it with ice and beer, like I do for Mardi Gras.

Sounds fun. I may be able to meet up.

Since I don't have much of a BOB prepared, I'll have to put something together.

Damn. I gotta work Friday night. But I get to help out with PPCT so that's a small consolation. Have fun, guys!

Ok so I was wrong. I'm not on DAT tonight but I haven't slept thanks to constant text messages, so um yeah, enjoy your hike through STL. My ass is gonna be in bed.

The bug out went well. We had a small group and made pretty good time. Which is good since my chosen route was perhaps a bit longer than anticipated.

Thanks to those who came out!

If it makes you feel any better I had street lights go out as I passed them on the highway as well.
