Chain maille for sale

Postby Jonas » Mon Jun 14, 2004 11:37 am

I made a chain maille shirt last year because I have free time like you can't imagine. Anyway I'm selling it on ebay and I thought out of any group of people I know you would be the most interested.
Two things I left off of ebay, the patteren is european 4 to 1 and it weighs around 6 pounds.

Here's a link. There are some pics of it there so I'm not going to post them.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... eName=WDVW

If you have any questions let me know. C'mon buy it, C'mon.

I might be more interested if only I wasn't a size XXL...

He also remarked on hating Filipinos in a different thread...

I don't know where he got the idea that I'm a "fatty", (I'm more like a big, well built guy) but racism isn't cool by any stretch.

I'm not too sure I believe in being "jokingly racist." Usually you are or you aren't. It's one thing to give people you know well crap for being who they are; it's another story when it's strangers on a public forum you just joined. Not cool.

I'm quite the mix of ethnicities including Italian, Polish and Jewish and believe me there are quite a few jokes floating around about the three. I've never taken them seriously and never thought down on most of the people telling them. I wouldn't take anything too seriously on an online forum and even if it were porch's opinion that fillipino people suck (which i know for a fact that it's not) he's entitled to it.

To put it politely, the type of people that get banned from a forum in less than an hour, are the same type of people that die first in a zombie apocalypse, so I’m not real concerned about your friend, or what he said.

If you don't care what someone says nor do you care about thier welfare, do you care whether or not they post here?

Agreed. Banning is lame. Only one person has been banned so far and that was because that person posted 15+ posts similar to your friend that were only made to piss people off. He was banned because after his user ID was temporarlity disabled he promptly started creating mulitiple user names for the same purpose. Shouldn't a line be drawn? What if some ass hole comes in here and makes 300 posts like that? Do you think we should just ignore it?

You're freind wasn't banned anyway. His account was just locked. It's only the second time that's happend. He didn't quite make it to the list of banned users, yet.

At least Brech posted some crap that was relevant to the thread, which is why he didn't get disabled.

The chainmail is completely homemade. I made a mandril (hand crank) as opposed to wrapping wire around a rod stuck in a clamp. Also you can get really cheap galvanized wire at wal-mart in the plumbing section. I use 14 gauge which is what practically everyone uses. There's close to 30 dollars of steel wire in the shirt I made.

Damn Jonas, only $30 thats not too shabby. I've read about different chainmail making techniques but never got around to doing anything about it. How long did it take you to make that vest?

I dunno it's a tricky issue. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions. If your opinion is that I am a damnable assjacket that's fine but I should be allowed to reciprocate. Banning people is pointless and dangerous. Where should the line be drawn? Should you be banned for using profanity, or insulting another member? What about attacking another user's stance on an issue, we are nothing but the sum total of what we believe in. So an attack on my beliefs is an attack on me.
Niceporch is my best friend, so of course I'm going to be on his side. If he wants to post here, it's fine by me. Anyone is free to join here, the discretion of what you post and how you want to be percieved is up to you.

I didn't keep official time studies because if I knew how long it took me, then I'd know how much of my life I wasted. But unofficially I'd say no more than 200 hours. This includes making jigs and messing up and fixing things.

How exactly is banning someone from an internet forum dangerous?

Why does your best friend want to come onto a site and post things that have nothing to do with the topic and/or bash people he doesn't know? Why do trolls waste their own time on something they profess not to care about? If your friend wants to do that kind of shit, he can do it on the IMDB boards with all the other 13 year olds. And yes, we all know that he might be "kidding" or "fooling around", it's still just a gigantic waste of time.
The tools of conquest do not necessarily come with bombs and explosions and fallout. There are weapons that are simply thoughts, attitudes, prejudices, to be found only in the minds of men. For the record, prejudices can kill and suspicion can destroy, and a thoughtless, frightened search for a scapegoat has a fallout all its own...

Though I thought it would have been obvious, the things I stated after calling it dangerous are what makes it dangerous. Namely how there are no defined rules of conduct and what is offensive is completely subjective and relyant on how much of a board is up your ass. There's no obvious line to cross so why not ban everyone on principle.

I don't know niceporch's intentions, he'd tell you them himself if he wasn't disabled within an hour of posting here.

Who cares about why people post mean things? Why do you waste time posting questions that can at best be answered with hypothetical responses and who cares if it's a waste of someone elses time to type something out? No one forces you to read someone elses posts and if you know that they are meaningless then why the hell would waste time discussing them?

Someone made fun of someone and it's actually news on this forum. Lighten up.

Thanks about the chainmail.
I disagree on the political correctness though. I think it's more the action of someone striving to be politically correct when they censor someone who may come off as offensive as opposed to just sacking up and facing reality, 90% of the world sucks.
