By the time hollywood is done with it you wont be able to figure out what came from the book.

lets hope for the best this really could be a good movie, do like an interview with a vampire type film with zombies. is that true about max being the son of mel brooks?

yeah, max brooks is mel brooks son. but what do you want to bet that they leave out all the good stuff like that girl in canada and just make it about the soldier who survived yonkers.
if you think everything's going according to plan you obviously have no clue whats going on.

In order to make the movie makeable, they're going to have to have a single main character. That might be Brad Pitt.

I think that even if they totally pervert the book, it'll still be a cool ZPAW zombie flick.

I'm worried by this:

Sorry, I don't think bodes well for the pic, but we'll see my cynicism may yet be unfounded...I can Hollywood salivating over yet another "message" movie now though...

I'm going to wage that it will skip large chunks of the book and make it some sort of love story and an allegorical piece of work pointing a finger at the "evils" of gun owners. That's how War of the Worlds turned out. I mean, it's Hollywood. We can only expect that.

I dunno, but the looks of it, it may not be distorted too much:

But I'm being very faithful to the book, letter by letter when I can, and I'm on about page 70 right now and I'm really happy with it.

As soon as I read "And they said, 'Feel free to get as political as you want, as incisive as you want, to play with it." I wanted to cry.

Yeah, that and the Katrina comment made me pretty sick. Obviously, there's a political element to the book, no duh, but we don't need to be beaten over the head with it, especially the typically Hollyweird version of "political"

If Boll got his grubby little hands on WWZ, I'd shoot myself. In the liver. With a rivet-gun.

And that's why he continues to make movies. Shoot him in the liver with a rivet gun. That way his reign of terror will come to a screaming bloody end.

I checked the IMDB page for this and don't see anything new. Nobody's attached to it except Brooks and the screenwriter, so far. I'm guessing they're shopping it around to some big name actors atmo.

I just hope it isn't made into some plastic super-CGI summer blockbuster, complete with top 40 "metal" soundtrack, that won't be remembered in a couple of months.

I just got the audiobook, haven't had the chance to read the book yet. I'll be digging into the audiobook tonight... can't wait!

"I've turned in the latest draft of World War Z and it's now going out to directors"

Hopefully they look to the audio book where the American Soldier became the main person. They took all of the american soldier stories and merged them into one guy who was at all of the major battles. That plus some side stories (if a love iterest gets us the female pilot who crashes in the swamps i could bo ok with it) would make a nice little flick.

Personally I think they should do a 12 part TV show for one of the cable companies. the stuff coming out of HBO and Showtime kicks butt.

Yeah, I think that's the only way WWZ will be able to rock. If it's beat down to a 2 hour movie, then it won't get to go all over the place and get into the other stories.

The pilot that crashed in the swamps, was awesome. The story of the soldiers fighting the final battles near the end, was also awesome. There was much awesomeness.

I wouldn't say no to merging the two stories. I'm sure in some way Max thinks of them as all intertwined in the big picture. If they do a love story, I just don't want it to be cheesy, or detract from the movie's focus, which is the battle for liberation. And I *really* don't want to walk into the theater like I did to see "Pearl Harbor" and end up getting dumped on with 3 hours of weepy love triangles and baby daddies.

And if they put Ben Affleck in this movie, I WILL DIE.

I'm pretty certain some of my favorite parts of the book will never make it to the movie. The story of the rouge Chinese sub won't make it in, nor will the Australian astronaut's experiences in the ISS, probably because both stories won't provide cool action sequences. They probably won't show the stories of the Russian troops, with the decimations, the gassing of refugees at the bridges, and the story of the Russian Orthodox priest either; may be too violent. I hope the story of the Indian guy who blew the road to the Himalayas makes it in, as well as the Paul Redecker story.
If they include it and do it right, the scene of the refugees fleeing to ships at Alang is going to freak me out.

My theory is the movies is made by Americans, so they'll focus more on the American stories like they did in the audiobook, so we'll loose the international view. For some reason I think the movie will follow the path the audiobook took.

If they do put Ben Affleck in, I hope he gets bitten. Zombie Affleck might just be a better actor than live Affleck.
It can always get worse.

I would rather see this in Miniseries version as well. Its just one of those things that needs to be told in more of an "epic" fashion. Trying to jam it into a 2 hour movie will just have too much potential to ruin it.

They won't put Reddecker in there. Redemption for a guy who did something so "evil?" This is Hollywood.

Hmm. No, it gets staged like this.

Reddecker, played by an old fat white man, puts forth his proposal, being opposed by our muscular young hero.

Action ensues, with hero doing what he can, where he can. His heartfelt rescues grab people who are able to solve so many of the woes of the world, who would otherwise be heartlessly abandoned by Reddecker.

In the last reel, Reddecker finds his position overrun, and gets abandoned by his subordinates. Nelson Mandela is conspicuous in his absence. Certainly a civil rights hero wouldn't sign off on so awful an action

Meanwhile, our hero, having saved the planet, is joined by Bambi, who enjoys the PAW, since only sensitive eco types inherit the earth, having learned their lesson. Cue birds and dawn.

Blech! (There is a conspicuous absence of an emoticon which vomits. The Mods should get on that)

It would be one of the coolest shows ever on cable if they would do it like the Masters of Horror series on Showtime. Image
