Everything in moderation... including moderation.

I have had to live pretty frugally for a pretty long time, but there are just times when I need a frickin' cheeseburger.

Nothing to beat yourself up over.

You really REALLY need to keep in mind that prepping can become a really unhealthy fixation. There is a whole world of stuff happening, and if your whole life is centered around what MAY happen, you're missing a whole lot of what IS happening.

Just sayin'.

Good advice, Neddog.

Utah_ZHunter. I was laughing out loud. You know what I mean. Now that I've been thru this once I will have a better method of getting through it. Like you said, make something and eat the whollllle thing. This one snuck up on me. I didn't even know I was a real gonner until my third trip for fast food for an 'everything' meal.

Lynn, THANKS for the reminder re things like moderation... even in moderation. Great phrase! Do, please do, remind me to look up now and then and breathe.

Wait. What? If I click on the things advertised there she earns $$? Is that how this works? Could somebody fill me in on this please because if that is the case you betcha I'm going to do, what did you call it, click-throughs? And what do I click on? Everything that is being advertised on her site? Only advertisers I recognise or should I just click every single advertising there to earn for her?

I had always wondered how this worked, I mean how her site that is free to me with so much it has to offer me actually brings her revenue.

AND... if I go there and click weekly or bi-weekly does that count in her income or does it track my computer somehow and only counts one click from me no matter how many times I go back and revisit the advertisements?

Oh, and is it only on the FB page because I closed my FB account.

I am standing by ready to click as soon as I am taught what to do!

LOL yes, AIC is our family's sole income.

I can't tell you a thing other than if you print coupons I earn. The ads do earn me revenue but it's against the companies TOS for me to tell people how I earn.

It varies on how long in between I earn depending on your action.

Oh, and is it only on the FB page because I closed my FB account.
FB doesn't earn me a dime other than in the traffic it brings.

I caught these deals tonight

1 is on the blog so I'm just linking that b/c it's easier for me right now. If not, it's on Walmart.com.

Era laundry detergent for .06 per oz. Ships free when you buy $45 in HomeFree items (which wasn't hard once I started looking)

Also, Great Value bottled water for .14 per bottle (I think..I'm tired..it may have been .16). I bought 2 of these too. (24 packs Great Value Purified) There are some other good deals on there too as far as preps go. Oh yeah..French's bulk mustard for .03 or .04 per oz. Don't really recall atm.

Link for the full Era details: http://www.adventuresincoupons.com/era-laundry-detergent-only-06-per-oz

Yes, I could make my own detergent but I despise the homemade and consider it an after zPoc item.

I tried a homemade haybox cooker yesterday, speaking of prepping on the cheap. Took an 18-gallon Sterlite plastic tub/lid for the container. On the bottom, I used an old winter jacket and a huge bath towel that I used to drape over the bottom & up the sides. Then I added one of those emergency mylar blankets (10pk for $7-something on Amazon), also draped across the bottom & up over the sides. Then a few oven mitts and another folded bath towel. Around the pot, I tucked another 3 or so bath towels, enough to completely fill the spaces. Covered the lid with a couple more oven mitts, another bath towel. Folded the mylar blanket & huge towel over the whole mess, like gift wrap. Since there was still a LOT of room in the tub, I added a couple folded blankets just to fill the space. Threw the lid on & called it good.

For the pot, I used an old 6qt nonstick pot. Pretty lightweight, but it was what I had at the moment. The test meal was a 3lb roast cut into pieces & browned, lentils, carrots, celery, poblano peppers, a couple of leftover breakfast sausages hacked up & dumped in, a couple cubes of chicken bouillon & seasonings, water to fill. It was filled to about an inch from the top. I boiled it all (glass lid in place) for 12 minutes, then popped it in the box.

When I unpacked it all, five and a half hours later, the stew temperature was 175F on my instant read thermometer. The mylar blanket REALLY held in the heat - the wrappings outside the mylar were barely warm to the touch, but inside the mylar, the towels were super hot. The stew was perfectly cooked, melt-in-your-mouth meat & veg. The whole family raved about it. This experiment was a big success. We'll be trying this one again.

Will that hay-box idea work with dutch ovens? I like the Mylar idea. I have a dozen or so of them lying around.

Yes, dutch ovens are great.
Any nice sturdy pot with a good fitting lid.
If your lid doesn't fit well, you can seal it with some foil (or a flour/water paste).

I have been reading some things about Hay-Box cooking as a way to lower fuel usage. In a "PAW" situation that would come in handy (or the near economic situation we are in now) . I was thinking of a way of building a "Box" that would utilize the pots I already own. I will try the sealing idea of yours when I get a box together.

Had a Haier 1 cu ft portable washer delivered this week for a blog review. You guys are getting it before I even type it up. HAD I had to pay for it, 4 days in (with the amount of laundry we had to do) it would have already paid for itself. Does about the equalivant of a small load in a regular washer, quick cycle takes about 20 minutes and is QUIET!

Further saving money by drying clothes on a line on the balcony. Shooting money saved into prepping funds to try and add some bulk to what we have.

Isn't up yet hon. I've been insane busy the last week because we're reviewing the 2012 Kia Optima. Give me till next week and I'll let you know when it IS up. Like I said though..it's a really decent machine and has saved us TONS over the cost of even doing them ourselves in the tub (because of the loss of work time I lose when tub washing)
