Here is the compost link:
http://www.amazon.com/Composting-Ultima ... composting
I looked for it as I must be doing something wrong with my compost pile. It smells like a dead body!
Opps, bad copy and paste![]()
From what I've picked up, the smelly compost comes from not enough air/aeration. Try turning it more often maybe? Lots of moisture maybe - drain some (save the juice)...
Mine has done the smelly thing a time or 2, and a good mixing/dry out seem to get it back in the groove...
silversnake wrote:Thanks for the heads up on all the great links. A little sad I missed out on the compost link (it's back to $6.97 kindle price) but grabbed the others. Thanks as well on the compost advice as I've had the smelly compost thing recently too. I think I need a bigger bin/area to make turning easier.

The links I see anyway when I'm browsing - Me posting them takes no time, and if someone can grab something they like/need - all the better. Thank NoAm for starting the thread that we can all collaborate on...

Right now, I have a few 35g barrels composting down for next years crop, I'm with you and I really need to start looking at a larger area for it, maybe a pallet box or something. I just don't want to push the neighbors to much (they turn a blind eye to my chickens). A 35g barrel of compost goes 'off' you only smell it at about 10-15feet, a 4x4x4 pallet cube goes off, I can only assume the smell gets exponentially worse
silversnake wrote:Thanks, grabbed that one. How do you find all these anyway? I'd like to contribute but I don't seem to run across nearly so much useful and free.
As to the compost, I'm in suburbia in about 1/6 of an acre but I can fit about a half dozen 4x4 raised bed gardens in there when I've got it fully built out the way I want. I'm thinking I might just do a quick and easy field rotation by using a different bed each year as the compost pile - gives me compost space to support the others next year, lets the bed "rest" a year, and it should still be far enough back not to bother the neighbors if it goes bad even though larger space should reduce that risk.
