What day is the canoe trip and range day? Im guessing the canoe day is when one could do some fishing? Is that the only day for fishing?

The schedule should be in the informational emails that went out. If you've got a MO fishing license, you can fish in the stream that Manbath flows into. Just be careful not to snag anyone's naughty bits.

Just downstream of the campsite there is a larger creek/river where the fishing is decent. I don't know what exactly what kind of fish you're after, but I'm pretty familiar with the area and plan to do some fishing myself. Although I'll be on a motorcycle so I'm going to have to make a rod when I get there and just do some primitive fishing.

I honestly don't know. There were some lead mines in the area and I think there's a high content of lead in the area in general. Some nearby towns are named after the lead in the area.

Okay. Rules:

#1 is "no glass, period."
#2 is "beverages left in community areas are community beverages" This applies to basecamp and Manbath, but not the shaded Registration area where everyone leaves their food coolers.

Now, in practical terms, Manbath is the lowest topographical point on the property, which means if you take all your beer down to Manbath and put it in the beer nets, you don't have to carry it up the fucking mountain. This is what almost EVERYONE does, so just throw your beer in and then retrieve whatever beer is in there.

[Pro-tip:] Don't put good beer in there, no one else does. I'm bringing a few cases of Hamm's and Stag, cause thats how I roll.

Being a Zcon Noob, what does everyone's packs look like? Im trying to fit all my stuff in one hiking bag and the weight is crazy. Are people bringing multiple bags? I just read about the coolers, so far all my food packed has been the shelf stable Backpackers Pantry type. Is someone making Ice runs during ZCon for the coolers? I guess any "Pro Tips" on how to have a more enjoyable time ( and not die  ) would be greatly appreciated. Looking forward to the seminars listed in the 3rd informational email. Thanks.

I look at z-con as car camping, to be honest. I no longer try to rough it. I bring multiple coolers and multiple bags and take multiple trips up the mountain. Everyone approaches Z-con from their own perspective, so I totally understand you wanting to ultralight it for the week, but this is my 5th or 6th year there and I'm mainly just going to have a good time and help the new people, and I'd just as soon be as comfortable as possible.

So while you're eating freeze-dried noodles, I'm going to be the guy making rosemary-garlic lamb steaks on the fire :D

EDIT: The Ice situation:

So, if you're bringing your cooler up on the mountain you'll need ice every day. Its hot up there, and sunny. What a lot of the repeat attendees do is bring a big cooler or two and leave it across teh creek from the mountain, in the shaded grassy area near Registration (you'll understand when you see it). Its entirely shaded and about 20F cooler than where camp is. If you throw a block of ice in a big quality cooler it will last from wednesday to sunday in the shaded area.

What I do for cooled food and such is keep my big cooler in the shade, and bring a soft-side cooler down from the hill and fill it with stuff I need for that day, along with some ice. And I do that every day.

Most days, though, theres a walmart run.

I went light last year.

I'm going even lighter this year. I'll likely have an alternate bag for anticipation of quite-inclement weather, with additional rain fly, tarp(s), and alternate clothing, maybe, but that's about it. It'll likely/hopefully stay in the truck.

I'm a fan of traveling light. Even though I'm in better condition than last year, I'd rather carry less.

That said, I still am packing a big Igloo cooler with a frozen milk jug in the middle, with ice packed around my goods (no giggity). I'll still have the usual Mountain House or two for sustenance, but I'm also packing some Louisiana favorites to barter around the fire with.

I'll be on a motorcycle. I have ALL of my camping gear in an average sized backpack. Unfortunately I haven't found a way to fit food inside the pack so I'll have to bring another bag too. My backpack has MOLLE straps so I guess I could find a way to strap on a bunch of pouches for food. But all of my food is going to be dry stuff like MREs or Mountainhouse because I can't bring a cooler. Last time I was at ZCON I ate surprisingly little and just drank water the whole time. I think it was the heat that made me lose my appetite. I lost about 10lbs on that short trip believe it or not. When I got home the A/C was Tantric!

anyone have a packing list they'd care to share?

I just want to compare notes and see if I'm missing anything I'd regret.

I got a buncha shit laid out on the floor, and some in my pack. I am DEFINITELY leaving the sleeping bag at home this year, and just bringing the self-inflating pad, and maybe a sheet or something.

Yea, that's a really good point. This is mother fucking ZombieSquad, after all. I'll put the sleeping bag in my inclement-weather backup pack and leave it in the truck unless necessary.

In my experiances ( military peoply know what im talking about) a pancho liner is the best thing to sleep in in warmer to hot nights.. im bringing my lightweight bag plus a pancho liner or fleece bag liner. Probably just going to sleep on the bag and cover with the liner if needs be.. also a good tent with a window or two works wonders to keep you warm at night and shaded during the day
