I never said Glocks were more durable than 1911s, just that the difference between all-metal and poly guns, in terms of durability, is not the "chasm" some people try to make it out to be. In all honesty, I'd rather get a Glock over the 1911, and replace the plastic guide rod with a metal one. It's cheap and easy "fix" if having a plastic guide rod bothers you, and well worth saving nearly 2/3 of a pound while gaining the 3 extra rounds per mag. I have a feeling I'd benefit from those perks 1000 times over before benefiting from having an all metal gun over a Glock.

No, I got your point. The problem is that you are drawing random conclusions that sound nice in your head.

Just because in the two years between introducing Glock to America and placement in Die Hard there was only marginal success does not in any way prove that Glock wouldn't have been successful otherwise.

We're talking about the 1980s. No internet, no commercials on television. So your market is word of mouth and people who buy gun magazines. No one has ever heard of a polymer gun before, so you see this magazine ad and it's either that or a hunk of steel with USA USA USA stamped on it. Which do you choose?

You know who else would have not had good sales if they hadn't had successful advertising? 99% of the companies you have ever heard of.

Watch the viedo the guide rod melted dont get all upset it happened its plastic its going to melt, the gun was damaged dont see how that makes me a troll?

I see it all the time, the Glocks almost always come out ahead.

As somebody that enjoys competitive shooting I go to a lot of pistol matches. When it comes to overall failure rate the 1911s FAR exceed the Glocks. For the most part the high end is dominated by Glock, CZ, and tuned 1911s. Though S&W has been becoming more popular lately due to the M&P. And as I mentioned in another post awhile back one thing that's become clear to me is that the 1911 guys that have few issues either spent $2k+ on the their gun to begin with or ended up in that price range anyways after buying a cheaper 1911 and then paying a gunsmith $1k+ to work on it. And I'm not talking about "race guns" either. I tend to mostly do "practical" type matches (IDPA for instance) and the guns used are mostly pretty close to what somebody would carry concealed or on a duty belt.

While you may not like them your comments about Glocks being nothing special points to a person that doesn't see hundreds of pistols of different makes put out many thousands of rounds every year. If you did you still may not like them, but you'd know why they are so popular and an excellent value. It's not a fluke that so many competitive shooters use them, nor is it based purely on Glock advertising. They are light, accurate, durable and reliable. More so then most other pistols, especially at their price point. I won't argue that it's the best pistol in the world, but they are one of them.

PS - I say this as a 1911 owner and fan. But it's an old design and firearm technology has advanced :)

How is that the thread is titled "I HATE GLOCKS"

the glock melted its a fact so the gun was damaged thats all im pointing out. My original comment was as to date I have seen no proof that the Glock is more reliable than any other gun. In the vid it actually showed the opposite

Can you link any video proof of the Glock out preforming a 1911 in a extended firing test such as the ones I listed? I dont hate them I just feel they cost too much for what you get id put my SD40 up against a G23 any day its cheaper and comes with real sights.

Then you haven't been around guns very long. Take a course by the people who made that glock torture test video. Spend 2 days shooting 1000 rounds on a dusty range laying, crawling, shooting from the dirt and mud and in the rain. Pay attention to which guns run well and which have problems, you will notice a trend.

There is a reason Glocks have a reputation for being more reliable, and it isn't because of advertising. I expect you'll learn this as you become more experienced.

Can you link any video proof of the Glock out preforming a 1911 in a extended firing test such as the ones I listed?

To my knowledge there are no full length videos of multi-day training sessions where guns are truly tested. I would highly suggest you take some classes so you can see for yourself.

No, I go to actual shooting matches. In a day I can see 100+ pistols with as many shooters. You can do this as well, I highly recommend the shooting sports as an enjoyable and informative activity. Most of that sort of shooting isn't sitting down and shooting 1k rounds in one big string. Most days it's bursts of 30-60 rounds in a string. But that's done repeatedly throughout the day.

But really, go join IDPA, USPSA, or any number (maybe the GSSF someday:) ) of other shooting organizations or clubs. Not only will you probably have a great time and improve your gun handling you'll start to see that Glock's, CZ's and tuned (very pricey) 1911s tend to dominate for good reason. But there are other makes as well. For the most part the competitive type people do not buy based on advertising, they buy what works well. And you can start seeing what that is when you start seeing large amounts of pistols being used hard.

As an example I don't think it's a fluke that the competitor equipment survey for the 2011 IDPA World Championship listed 142 Glocks of various types and ZERO S&W Sigma's or SDs. Out of the 113 S&Ws, about 80 were M&Ps (the rest of the 113 = 7 of their 1911s and the rest were revolvers and one 5906). Not a single SD or Sigma. For 1911s STI and Wilson are the most popular make. The most used make? = the 142 Glocks.

And don't knock the plastic Glock sights. The only real minus to them (in my opinion) is they are not night sights. For daylight (or any sort of good lighting) shooting they are amazingly good.

DRINK IT... DRINK IT NOW!!!!

I've fired them before, and find them ergonomically uncomfy to shoot... Plus they don't naturally point in my hand...

That being said, I don't hate them, I don't like them, they are just tools... The 1911 fits my hand really nicely... I shoot much more comfy, but as much as some may call blasphemy, it's not my end choice either...
I am saving up for a CZ75bd, and see if that kool aid deserves drinking... I've held them and they feel really comfy, more so than a 1911, hell of a lot more than a glock, but over time, who knows...

rofl 8-)

For some reason I have a real problem jerking the trigger on glocks, which I do not have other guns like a 1911, BHP or beretta 92. Still managed to score a 95% on my qualification course this morning.

I always feel like this when holding a glock

A what kind of tool? It's a shooting tool, as far as I'm concerned. What you do with it is your business, but may I suggest removing the front sight first

The guide rod melted, but the 1911 didn't have one to begin with :o It's almost like they aren't necessary. In fact, a Glock will function without one. It's only there to make the spring more convenient to put in place.
