My dedicated first aid bag for inspection

Hey guys, this is my first aid bag. It's freshly put together, and will be used for camping/hunting and emergencies.
It's not too heavy as-is, and can be worn as a standalone pack (that's not very comfortable) or attached, or within, another pack.
It has a top-pouch for quick access to important shit and the main compartment folds open into two sides with various item-retention methods

Assortment of over-the-counter medicines in individual use bags, organised in ziplock bags by which drug they are. With dosage and usage instruction sheet.
This is for personal use only as I am not qualified to give drugs to another person.

Looks pretty good. What kind of bag is it, dimensions? I might drop a couple of izzys and add some 4x4 gauze pads. Izzys are great for GSWs and large wounds, but for wounds requiring more than a band aids, but not quite Izzys, some 4x4s and Kerlix will be great.

Another thing I forgot to write, because it wasn't photographed. There is a flat pocket that sits where by the shoulder straps. I put some extra large ziplock bags in there but not actual yellow biohazard ones.. might get some if I see them but I probably won't go looking for them

Alright, I'm not going to comment on the bag per se but there's something bugging me about most of these bags.

You've got burn dressing, sterile wound dressing, field dressing, a splint and whatnot... and then you have 6 pairs of gloves? As someone working in the field believe me when I say that's a ridiculous amount for the stuff you've got in there. Yes, it's probably enough for taking care of a fracture if you're heading back to a hospital with it but still might I suggest the old "putting in whatever you can fit in"?

I would be hesitant to overload it with stuff. It's already pretty packed full.

When you open a first aid kit, you really should be aiming to have everything visible right off the bat. That's often impossible, but you should at least aim to be able to visualise as much of the equipment as you can. It helps in situations where you're rushing or stressed (as is often the case!).

Only thing I would consider changing/adding might be some more saline, and if you frequently go out rural, one of those reflective space blankets. Personally, I've never found those spray on bandaid things to be very good; so if you're undecided and need the space, I would ditch it.

Yeh more saline is on the shopping list, along with a couple other things. Just ordered Quikclot and need a couple NPAs and some asherman seals. Might add an emergency blanket.

And yes, 6 sets of gloves... I might even add more. They weigh nothing, they take up fuck all room, and what if there is a few injuries that I want to wear gloves for over the course of a camping trip or what if there is a huge situation which requires a few people to work on the one person

Having worked on some nasty stuff in the dark, I'm a fan of headlamps.

A magnifying glass to see the splinters you are trying to remove with the tweezers

I like to carry a few 'Q-tip' type products to help fish out the crap in someone's eye that doesn't yield to a simple flush.

Nice bag, throw in an inventory card for the date sensitive items (like the OTC meds) and you've got the nice outfit.

Headlamp is round my next when I'm not wearing it, or if it's uncomfortable due to the heat it's in my LBE
Not a bad idea with the magnifying glass and q-tips. Inventory card is a pretty good idea, and to make sure everything gets replaced if I have to use it.

1st off i dont know my ass from my elbow, i dont have any training with the exception of what i got in the service.

You have some stuff to treat some big wounds and to me the emergency blankets would be a good idea to help with shock. i dont know how to treat shock with the exception of putting a blanket on the indiviual and keeping them alert and calm. I dont know what else would be good for shock. maybe a fifth of jack? lol maybe you could put in like two icyhot patches or gel to help with treating strained or pulled mustles and just sore old bodies. maybe a fifth of jack? it seems to work on tired old bodies too. mole skin? just a little in case of a blister? a couple of those compressed camp towels to clean up with? this way your not gonna ruin your own toiletries when washing up, or get stuff all over your backpack when digging for your toiletries after an event.

you also brought up heat. what about something to treat heat exhaustion?

You can get biozard/infected/medical waste stickers for the disposal bags from your doctor/hospital/first aid gear reseller for nix.

I'll put in a vote for MOAR GLOVES too. Like you said, they weigh nothing.

To Sixty-Eight Whiskey, respectfully - what if he's involved in a MVA with mutiple casualties? Surely he can't use the same gloves for patching up/first aiding each person?

EMDOM even make a pouch (EMDOM GROBES) specifically for the storage of medi gloves and fast access of same (like tissues from a tissue box) to go on the front of a conventional med pouch so it's not like it's uncommon idea, surely?

Couple of space blankets like you said = good idea for treating shock but also makes a quick clean "floor" to work on someone when outside in the dirt if needed.

You should link to that thread where we first saw that TacMed R-AID so folks can see the video where he gets it open so quickly.

If you have it packed for self-aid, I'd put the tourniquet on the very top. If you're the one bleeding out, I'd hate hate hate to have to look for it.

I lean the same way with the Izzy.

I really dig the bag itself. Might have to look into getting one.

Anyway, my only real suggestion that hasnt been touched on is the spray on band-aid. Get rid of it and free up some space. It's not as good as you'd think, unless you're keeping it in there for small scrapes and cuts. Even then, you can use a bit of gauze and tape instead.

Looks like you have it covered, I have found the local fire station to be a good source of medical supplies get to know them and they are more than willing to help you out.
