.223 in anything other than fmj seems to be at a premium.

I've had no complaints about the BVAC 55gr fmj and sp they sell there in bulk; think they were $140 or $150 for 500.
Be wary of their handgun stuff though; it looks like they don't resize very well. I've had quite a few rounds of 9mm that would cycle fine in a G19 but nothing else; they were probably fired from an unsupported Glock chamber and just not resized appropriately.

Anyone ever shoot out at Alpine?

Sometimes. I think Irish Hunter goes there fairly often.

I dig alpine for skeet. I'm in the north richland hills area so for me it's usually Alpine or Winchester. Where are the ZS Range meets usually?

Howdy folks, I'm in Burleson most of the time and Alpine is the most convenient for sure. I go there often for skeet and rifle stuff.
Handgun ranges I am trying to pop in everywhere, Off-Duty Armory on 174 is close and pretty good I think 6 lanes@25yd. , recently visited Elk Castle off of I-30 and Cherry lane in N. Ft. Worth that's a good place, think it had 7-8 lanes, as is the aforementioned Winchester Gallery, and even been to the range at Bass Pro World once.....

Most of my shooting goes on at the family ranch outside of Corsicana. We have mowed about 75 yards and can wander back a bit down the creek bed and set up targets out to 150 or so. Please pardonthe :30 seconds of bad shooting - this was our "Curio and Relic Day" had my old Enfield, a Moisin-Nagat, and a couple Mausers - all from WWI - era.

Post whenever you are heading anywhere, would love to come join ya if at all possible.

Some of us are heading out for an amphibious zombie patrol in OK early tomorrow. I'm thinking maybe shooting next weekend. One of my old college buddies moved to town last year and I've about talked him into going.

There is now a range in Wise County called Fossil Pointe. They have up to 200 yds on rifle and 15 yds on pistol. Same ole "No FMJ on Rifles" rules though. $16 a day.

I don't know if it has been mentioned, but there is a new 50(?)yd rifle bay at elm fork that allows FMJ and the green tip m855 rounds.

AND it's really nice. friendly RO's and plenty of lanes, my favorite range so far.

I haven't really shot at Elm Fork in quite a while (other than the Silencerco Shoot and that North Texas Combat Shooters thing), but the facilities really are impressive.
From what I've seen most of their ROs are pretty cool, as opposed to the range nazis at Quail Creek or the self-styled 'elite tactical operators' at DFW.
Speaking of which, I discovered that my CHL expires this year (for some reason I was thinking it was 2013), so I'm signed up for a renewal at DFW. Hopefully I'm cool enough to be in their presence for four hours. I just can't wait to be lectured on the merits of the 9x23 Winchester as a carry cartridge or the vast superiority of the 1911 platform over all others; I'm pretty sure those topics consumed about 90% of the last renewal class I took there.

I really got lucky with my first CHL. It was approved the month after my birthday so I got close to the full 5 years on it, rather than just a few extra months. Talk about good timing...

Actually I may call DPS tomorrow...I'm thinking this may be my third renewal, which would mean that I wouldn't have to take the class, but I'm not sure.

I'm surprised to report that DFW doesn't seem to suck anymore.
Apparently at some point they sold off their private security business, and now it would seem that it's no longer necessary for their employees to be complete assholes who think they know stuff.
I was really impressed with the difference between my time there tonight and the various times I'd been there in the past. The sales people seemed helpful, the rangemaster was pretty cool (he let one of the students finish his shoot with his personal M&P after the student's Ruger kept jamming), and the instructor knew her stuff and kept the class moving smoothly.
I only chose to go there because I was in a hurry, but this trip totally changed my opinion of their establishment.
No complaints at all from me this time around, which is a pretty big compliment.
