Ham Tests (Answers only)

Postby ITZombie » Mon Apr 23, 2012 12:05 pm

Note to Moderators, if this is against forum or board rules then delete as necessary.

I've been certifying on multiple guess testing since the 90's. The best way to pass one of the tests I've found is simple rote memorization. I'm NOT saying this is the best way to learn a subject but simply the best way to pass a test. Over the course of my career I've been required to be certified on hundreds of subjects by employers for their gain, not mine and as a result I determined the best way for me to get those certifications at the least expenditure of my non-compensated personal time.

One of the best ways to rote memorize a MC test is just have the questions and the right answer in front of you. It makes it extremely easy to pattern match the right answer on the testing screens.

Study those for an hour an evening for a week and as long as you have reasonable short term memory ability you will pass the test. I once on a bet got a girlfriend Cisco and Microsoft certified in in 3 days.

Again, you will not 'learn' your subject matter this way.

Since my wife wants to be ham certified, primarily just to pick up the basics of radio operation and possibly network for a future situation where we might be depended on such things to get information, I created cheat sheets of the various ham tests + right answer. I just took the publically available test questions and wrote a small program to delete the wrong answers and kick out a text file of the remaining ones.

You can find this here - http://www.filedropper.com/hamlicensetests if that kind of thing interests you.

I make no guarentees that the question pools are complete or accurate, I'm merely working with the data I have avaialble from http://www.w8mhb.com/ which has an excellent practice test on it. I cannot also guarantee that the text files do not have any blips in the data after processing.

That's how my mother studied for her General and Extra tickets. She passed both.

Congratulations on reinventing the wheel. There are several online sites that already do this for free.

Sorry if it's the same wheel, I was unable to find a current text based list of the questions with just the correct answer and the incorrect ones removed. Yes a lot of places with test simulators or the question pools but they all include the wrong answers. Wrong answers adds to the load you have to learn to pass the test.

Oh and I'm not sure what the free part of the comment was about? There's no charge to download the zip file and I'm definitely not charging anything for my time.

It sounds like you spent more time doing that than you would if you just read the damn study guide.

It's not brain surgery.

Actually, no, it took maybe 15 minutes to write an app to parse the text file for the (x) in the question lines where X = a,b,c,d and then delete anything not matching in the next answer block.

Oh well, in case someone else comes here looking for the same thing I was looking for to help my wife, there it is. If not then it's easy enough to ignore.

The "free" part was included to differentiate from some pay sites that also do this. I know yours was free by your description so I wanted to make it clear there were other places to get it as well and they were also free.

Here's another study option is MyAmatureRadio.com. He doesn't have the Extra material up yet, but I think he's waiting for the question change in July.

Wanted to add these to my growing pile of study materials but the link doesn't appear to be working. It just takes me to the main file dropper page. I am using Firefox if that makes a difference.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Tim
