Well, the plans to build your own PVC flashlight is free, That's a deal...

RadioShack DIY Flashlight April project of the month.

Here’s a simple project that’s fun for the whole family to build. With these DIY instructions, you can make a flashlight that can be used for many different purposes around the house, in the car or on a trip. Lights black out during a storm? Have a backup flashlight to power through it. Going camping for the weekend? Be sure to have it on hand for some great ghost stories around the campfire. Been searching for the cheapest/highest magnification credit card sized fresnel lens for a bob and edc.

There is a pack of 10 3x cards on amazon real cheap for $7.74 with shipping. http://www.amazon.com/Wholesale-Credit-Wallet-Magnifiers-Lenses/dp/B004Z76DEG/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1335050953&sr=8-4

I wanted to go with a 5x one. Cheapest I found was from: http://www.bensbackwoods.com/servlet/Categories?category=Fire%3AFresnel+Lens I bought the two pack for $4.98. With shipping it was $7.21. That was about $5 cheaper roughly than the others I found, plus it was a 2 pack. One for edc and one for bob!

Do you mean for a stove or a big one for warmth?

I have been searching a lot for wood/combo stoves for back packing/bob and the cheapest/best functional stove I found is called the firebox stove. It is ~$60 with shipping. The cheapest sites for it are from the manufacturer directly (http://foldingfirebox.com/) and through a company called wilderness innovations. (http://wildernessinnovation.com/survival-supplies/survival-items/firebox-folding-stove/) The two companies work with each other and offer combo kits with each other's products in it.

I haven't actually used it yet, as I am waiting a few weeks for the wilderness innovations guys to release a combo version with a variety of camo/MOLLE compatible cordura case. Everything I have researched and looked through on the web, this seems like the best/most functional and versatile portable stove. I am going to use it in conjunction with my tangia stove. There are also upgrades I am going to purchase as well.

As far as a real cheap on.... There are tons of youtube videos on making your own wood-burning stoves out of common household food cans. They work pretty well, just not ultra portable/convenient. They will do on a tight budget.

Just a heads-up on the 5.11 pants and shorts.. They run a little small in the seat area. You don't realize it until you sit down. :oops:

I just read the same thing in a gun type magazine at the book store (that out now), taking about the different types of tactical pants that are out.. They made the point, you better adjust your "man-parts" before you sit down, after that it's to late...

I found that out after I bought about 3 pair of pants (42x32) and 7 pair of shorts (42), 3 months ago... :gonk:

(Anybody looking for new 5.11 pants or shorts size 42, that have been washed one time. Smoke free house.. PM me)

So true..... :oops: :oops:

(If you wear a size 40, then you need to order size 42....)

I also noticed their boots also run a size small too.
Went down to Lexington KY, to Gails ( http://www.galls.com/home ) to buy some 5.11 ATAC 8 inch Zipper Boots. I tried on a size 12, but they didn't fit so I had to go to a size 13.
They fit fine, but made me look like I was wearing Frankenstein shoes... I then tried on some Bates and Magnum brands boots in size 12, they fit fine and looked normal.

Found a descent deal on Tilley wool hats. Received mine and it looks fantastic. Can't wait till some cooler weather to give it a stroll. They have flaps that full down over the ears and are retractable.

Some sizes were around 22.00. Free shipping with prime or over 25.00

I just found this. I've always wanted the Just in Case pack to have on hand as it's a solid full week of meals all boxed up nice and pretty. The seller has great feedback, and claims this is new stock (so should last ~7 years). There were 10, and after me, there are 9 left. $100 bucks shipped is a great deal for these, which you're lucky to find for $125 shipped. Thought I'd share with those who share :)

Thanks for this. Not only is the stove too cool, the promotional video is extremely well done. I signed up for the supplier's blog/newsletter and their first post was excellent. Thx again.

No problem. Glad to share the fruits of my internet searching. lol. It took me a while to finally decide on this one. I think I actually stumbled onto it doing some youtube browsing looking at different stove reviews. Of everything I saw this one made the most sense. It is just so versatile and seems to pack up real nice and small. I really wanted a wood stove for cooking without bringing fuel, but I also have a mini tangia alcohol stove as backup. I wanted to find something that could be multifunctional and use in conjunction with the tangia as a windscreen or pot stand. This does it plus ANY other fuel. That's a huge plus if I ever wanted to whip out some sterno or an esbit fuel tab. Plus the two attachments you can buy seem pretty great especially the grill. You can burn some wood to coals and grill up whatever. I think I am going to get the cup plate attachment too because, from what it seems, if you use any other fuel type, you need to use the top pegs lower, and might need that plate as a more stable pot stand. Plus, I read it makes a pretty good heat shield for a stainless steel gsi cup. All and all really impressed. Seems leaps and bounds better than competitors.

If you were thinking about getting this, wait a couple weeks. If you noticed at the bottom of of that news blog, they said they were going to release their own combo kit. I messaged them about a week ago(when I found this) about some purchasing options. They told me this would come out in a kit with the attachments for a little cheaper, PLUS in various camo styles in a cordura case with MOLLE attachments :D I'm going to wait for this.. anticipation is killing me though.. lol. I want to see/try it in person.

Thread Rules;
The idea is not to provide gear reviews, start comparisons or debate about vendors/websites. Most people already have their opinions and you can always start a seperate thread asking for a review or compare.

Let's avoid links to members-only and deal-of-the-day websites. These sites have a proven value but have already been mentioned repeatedly in this thread. Regardlesss of their overall value, its a been-there, done-that for this discussion.

When you do find one please give us;

:arrow: add why this is such a value.

The key is value.

This thread has been dominated by these posts (DVOR and THECLYMB) and that's not the intention. Please save this for unusual deals, coupons and discounts and be sure to offer a link to where it's available.

That is a good price for those particular bags although they only have them in black at the moment. I like the being able to lay it down and unzip the back to make the whole bag available without having to dig. Would make it easier to pack up too.

The North Face Alueian BX 20 Degree HOT Sleeping Bag. $39.99, Reg $89.99

http://www.alssports.com/The-North-Face-Aleutian-BX-20-Degree-HOT-Sleeping-Bag/PAAAAAJOJFFKLLHB/Product

Select League-Blue in Reg. Right Zip and the price drops to $39.99.

Checked out a bunch of consumer reviews on other sites, scores a consistent 4+ out of 5 stars. Seems like a competent basic 3 season bag. Heatshield Optimal Technology (HOT) synthetic insulation, whatever the hell that means. Decent synthetic fill I imagine: insulates even when wet, dries out quickly but doesn't compress as well or is as light as natural goose down.

I've been interested in checking out these forward osmosis water filtration systems. They can generate a clean sports drink like solution from dirty, or even brackish water.

Found this one on amazon for $12.05: linky

Seems to typically cost $25-$35

This single unit is capable of producing over 3 liters a day for 3 consecutive days using the power of SCIENCE! no pumping required.
