ZS idea

Postby ConManXVII » Mon Mar 26, 2012 2:43 pm

So I had an idea the other day and wanted to share this and get some feedback. After going to the BoB demo during the monthly meeting I was thinking about some other things that I've done in the past. Before joining the Air Force I lived in rural Arkansas, and my neighbor owned 90 acres of woods that I used to go survival camping in on the weekends and learned some nifty tricks doing that. So my idea was that if anybody was interested, I could start doing a video course on different survival skills and we could discuss the positives and negatives of these tactics.

I really like doing stuff like this because it allows me to have multiple uses for every item that I have in my pack, and who knows maybe we'll learn some new stuff along the way. Since we don't really use the forum too much I'll probably be posting these on the Facebook Group page instead, but I wanted to share the idea on here to in case we have some members that aren't on there.

I think James had an idea similar to this a while back, but nothing ever really got off the ground about it. Maybe hit him up and ask about it?

Waiting for me to get on... is about right. Sometimes I forget the forums are even here. Then I start posting like mad on them.
The problem I see, often, is that either everyone has conflicting days off, they don?t want to do primitive camping, or they won't actually commit to it.
Everyone thinks it's a good idea, but no one is willing to take it from a plan on paper to an actual plan of action, let alone the action itself.
Hell, anyone really want to do this? Tell you what.
Go out to your car.
Right now.
When you come back, tell me: is there enough in there that would help you survive for 3 days?
Because honestly, we may not even get the 30 minute heads up so that we could make it home to load the water, or sleeping bag, or extra food, or...
When you can look me in the eye and, without faltering, say, "My shit's squared away. I can bug out right now." THEN I'll take everyone seriously enough for a bug out exercise.

I'd be down for a trip out, but Cassie's not a huge fan of the primitive camping. I know for a fact that my shit isn't squared away, but I know where it all is for a quick grab.

We hit up lovell canyon a lot. Not a lot of water out there but its pretty secluded and not too far away. Heard rumors about some water out there farther out but haven't made it that far yet I guess.

You can shoot to your heart's content. Most people just fo out there to shoot.
I know of only one water source there, but it's on private property, at a boy scount camp.
You're def. Packing your own water in.

Is there a certain trail head you recommend. I googled it looks like a good spot. Looks like a very big area.

Heh, You don't need gps. You just need a 4x4. Or at the very least a truck with good suspension and the willingness to test it.
