Why would I want a BOV that runs on oil? In my year and a half of cruising the PNW, I think I only used like 6 gallons aboard my last boat. When I think of TEOTWAWKI, I'm thinking mass fuel shortages are gonna be a big part of the cake. I wan't something big enough to live on and something with an unlimited range. I figure there are enough little islands across the globe that have resourses so tiny that big companies like Exxon and Nestle wouldn't waste their time raping them.
You can have your van. I'm stickin with a full keeled heavy displacement ocean boat. A boat that size is large enough to produce food aboard. Matter of fact, I got a friend with a Formossa 51 that brews his beer aboard. He's got 2 big stainless fermenting tanks in a locker on the starboard side of the main saloon.
A boat that size could make Hawaii from Seattle in 25 days or less. It can store enough provisions to circumnavigate the globe non stop. You put solar panels and a wind generator on it and you could be energy independent withought having to run the genny. Trade with the locals along the way and you just might forget that for the rest of the planet, the world has ended.
Where'd my oh there it is go?.... Dang.
