I think I'll fix up my wife's Sig 556 as a spare just in case. All I need is furniture, a DD mount for my silver Aimpoint, and a DD rear sight.

I think I'm going to get some USGI mags. My PMags are looking at me funny liek they're just waiting to claw the sides of my magwell and stick all over everything at the slightest provocation.

For anyone wondering, steel core ammo is a go for this range.

So presumably my uber-tactical (retro-division) TT-33 with steel plated surplus ammo is a "GO"?

Strictly to compete with Crypto and his 1911 rattle-trap in a "battle of the outdated WWII sidearms". Yeah, I said it about the 1911.

ETA: if everyone could look and make sure that they are currently listed correctly in the "definite/probable/possible" areas, that would be great.

I'm interested in the Friday intro class, but I am curious about what level students will be expected to be at. I've never taken any kind of tactical class. I've shot a few IDPA matches, and an Appleseed event. I'm pretty comfortable with my pistol, but haven't got much shooting time with my AK. Is this class for me, or should I focus on more trigger time by myself before taking such a class?

No better place to learn than with a good instructor. In this case, we have two.

Friday will be a "beginner/refresher" class. It will focus on things like stance, sight, trigger, and reloading. We are doing this so that when you come to the two day, we can simply jump directly into the fast stuff without having to be sure that people are up to speed on the basics.

BTW, I'm in St. Louis even as I type this. Getting ready to drink.... PM me, maybe tomorrow for a meet up?

Sounds perfect, put me down as a possible for now. I'd like a meet up, but I'm leaving right after work tonight to go camping for the weekend.

DAN? Not sure what DAN is... so I'll bet we didn't. We hit the Landings (two blocks from the hotel), which was kinda lame overall, but there were enough bars to go bar hopping on foot, and get really, hungover, drunk, and gamble.

Oh shit. If this is a competition, I need to get mine all high-speed.

I just began dehorning the frame on mine. I'm going to do a melt job on it.

Well, I've got to get my TT33 to a gunsmith to find and install me a new hammer/sear assembly after the original one broke and started doubling and tripling while shooting at the range*. There's another pin that needs to be replaced, but the missing hammer/sear issue is something of a deal killer right now.

*after a brief encounter with powdered magnesium and fire, said assembly now rests on the bottom of Lake Erie. Now that I've actually got a dog, the BATFE is rather more scary.

Put me down as possible for the 8th-10th.

I don't know about the camping. I'll have to get some stuff together.

My buddy "Mr. Fuzzy Face" (an alumni from the Cow Pie City class) says he's a probable for all three days.

My first show in a commercial gallery opens April 27. If even a single, smaller piece sells, it should cover all of the expenses for both Steph and I, including tuition, ammo, and travel. (Or, at least, come very close to doing so.)

I would be particularly pleased if the painting of Steph with the AK sold, allowing her to get trained on the exact weapon she's holding in the painting. (Attire is likely to be somewhat different. And I don't think she'll run a "jungle taped" mag IRL.)

Bro, that pic is awesome! Something Sarah will, I dare say, forever be too self-conscious for. The only thing I can think of to make that picture cooler would be if it sent Steph to MilCopp. Best wishes on the show!

'Jungle taped' mags suck IMO, they make mag changes slow even on an AR!

Perhaps their only practical benefit is having another mag on the gun...

The reason I moved away from the jungle-taped mag idea is that I want all of my reloads to be the same, rather than doing one thing the first time and then something different thereafter. Imagine how shitty you'd feel, if under stress, you reloaded by flipping your jungle mag, ran it empty, and then under stress followed your muscle memory and flipped it again, thereby inserting an empty mag. Embarassing in a class...fatal in combat.

(This is me agreeing with you.)

This is one of the reasons I am not a big fan of the fast mag; that and it makes your gun 1 pound heavier.

Oh, yeah, you REALLY feel that weight, too, especially on an AK.

Unless you're in some crazy firefight, you should be able to get your ass to your gear in 30rds or less

The only reason I can think of to have a mag bolted/zip-tied to your rifle is if you can't have one in your weapon.

We can't even have that in Washington. I thought I was going to be clever and have one of the Izzy magazine 90 degree doohickey's and not have a "magazine inserted or round in chamber." They wrote into the law that you can't have the ammunition attached at all to the weapon. It isn't even a state criminal justice code or anything. It is in the fish and game code.
Thanks Anianna!
