I've shot a few IDPA matches, and an Appleseed event. I'm pretty comfortable with my pistol, but haven't got much shooting time with my AK. Is this class for me, or should I focus on more trigger time by myself before taking such a class?

doc66 wrote:Friday will be a "beginner/refresher" class. It will focus on things like stance, sight, trigger, and reloading. We are doing this so that when you come to the two day, we can simply jump directly into the fast stuff without having to be sure that people are up to speed on the basics.
BTW, I'm in St. Louis even as I type this. Getting ready to drink.... PM me, maybe tomorrow for a meet up?

Oh shit. If this is a competition, I need to get mine all high-speed.
I just began dehorning the frame on mine. I'm going to do a melt job on it.
With a leatherman file and some sandpaper.

I would be particularly pleased if the painting of Steph with the AK sold, allowing her to get trained on the exact weapon she's holding in the painting. (Attire is likely to be somewhat different. And I don't think she'll run a "jungle taped" mag IRL.)

Bro, that pic is awesome! Something Sarah will, I dare say, forever be too self-conscious for. The only thing I can think of to make that picture cooler would be if it sent Steph to MilCopp. Best wishes on the show!
'Jungle taped' mags suck IMO, they make mag changes slow even on an AR!
Perhaps their only practical benefit is having another mag on the gun...

Jeriah wrote:The reason I moved away from the jungle-taped mag idea is that I want all of my reloads to be the same, rather than doing one thing the first time and then something different thereafter. Imagine how shitty you'd feel, if under stress, you reloaded by flipping your jungle mag, ran it empty, and then under stress followed your muscle memory and flipped it again, thereby inserting an empty mag. Embarassing in a class...fatal in combat.
(This is me agreeing with you.)

This is one of the reasons I am not a big fan of the fast mag; that and it makes your gun 1 pound heavier.

Jeriah wrote:Oh, yeah, you REALLY feel that weight, too, especially on an AK.nimdabew wrote:This is one of the reasons I am not a big fan of the fast mag; that and it makes your gun 1 pound heavier.Jeriah wrote:The reason I moved away from the jungle-taped mag idea is that I want all of my reloads to be the same, rather than doing one thing the first time and then something different thereafter.
