book 1 was excellent. book 2 and 3 felt like the author lost inspiration and was hurried by deadlines to finish the series. the details, character development, etc. just didn't flow as well as in book 1. I read all 3 in a span of 2 days about 2 weeks ago. Book 1 excellent. 2 and 3 just OK.

I read the first, haven't yet gone for the 2nd and 3rd, but I will.

Surprised by the presentation of government in the book. Didn't think such a portrayal was allowed anymore.

It is the publists job to create the buzz - the $80 spent on the movie includes lots of advertising and promo events. Hopefully by "like twilight" they mean "wildly popular" and not "completely stupid"

We saw this movie on Saturday....

Went into it not expecting much... Was pleasantly surprised.

Kinda makes me want to read the books, to see what was cut. I got the impression several times that there was some significant character building left out, but overall, I give it a thumbs up.

Female lead knew her survival\hunting skills for sure.

Looks like Hunger Games has had the third best opening weekend, behind Dark Knight and the last part of the last Harry Potter movie.

Pretty impressive, still haven't seen it yet.

I havent had the chance to read Hunger Games yet. But after reading this thread it does remind me of a Stephen King book I read maybe 10 years ago called The Long Walk.

Saw it today. The movie was quite good... Not as good as the book, but still very good. I highly recommend the books. A lot was left out.

Oh, the movie skipped the powered armor, the skinnies... Hell, they skipped most of H&MP class! Jeriah just got a copy, too.

IIRC, Starship Troopers was the last of Heinlein's young adult contract. He had some other gems.

funny, I'm reading The Hunger Games right now, and will be reading the Girl...Tattoo books after that. Interesting to see those series both mentioned together here.

I can't believe I still haven't seen this! I read the books a few years ago and loved the 1st/2nd ones. The 3rd one was a let down and left me unsatisfied at the end. I think I'm finally going to see the movie tomorrow though. I can't wait!

From what my roommate says (he's read all the books) he says that she perfectedthose skills hunting deer and whatnot to feed her family. Her "state" or whatever they call it occupies the area that we know today as the Applacian (SP?) Mountains.

Great movie!

I read the book, which of course is even better, since it has more detail and charcacter development. My gf liked it and is in line behind my oldest daughter to read the book. There is a some emphasis on snaring game, which has got me reinterested in that. My daughter wants a bow.

Yes, this book was responsible for getting my family fully into archery. To the point where my daughter wants to shoot every weekend and wants to go hunting next year. I'm pretty thankful to Katniss for giving us such a fun and practical pastime to enjoy together.

Never read the books. Finally got around to seeing the movie. Entertaining enough with a heroine that thinks first, but can get dirty as needed. I thought the scene of her freaking out after killing Marvel and seeing Rue get killed was first rate acting. Also appreciated seeing some good bushcraft.

Now the negatives. Fire the freaking art director! Good grief! I know that the Capital City dwellers are supposed to be decadent, but what a ham-fisted and unimaginative way to protray it. The movie was much better out in the woods.

It was only unsatisfying because you realize that the series stays true to The Hunger Games, nobody survives, period. That politics will always trump a few true individuals, and finally, that big brother is out there, and you cant win.
