Try the Call of Cthulu, a film I picked up about a year ago, made in 2005 by the H. P. Lovecraft Society.
Here's the thing, they made it in the style of a 1920s silent movie,

It really is a damn good film, but the silent film format, while it works great, it also lends an air of surrealism that takes some getting used to... When Cthulu rises from the deep, it's pretty friggin wild...

Blackdog, you won't be disappointed, ignore the sequals to ReAnimator, it's the first one that is brilliant, and filled with completely hilarious deadpan dialogue by Combs...

JägerZ wrote:Totally agree about Jeffery Combs, the man is criminally under-rated.

If you haven't seen it yet, Black Cat, from the Master's of Horror series, was as wow factor for Jeffrey Combs as the XFiles episode was for Campbell.

You will believe that Combs is in fact Poe... He even looks like him....

The HPLS films are all normally available from their website... They're almost experiments in film, playing with older styles and shadows, but if you study or really love film, they are pretty good, more so if you're familiar with the structure and history of how films are made...

Call is the one I've seen, and while the silent movie format is a bit odd to sit thru, it has it's own rewards...

That movie is probably the ultimate Bruce Cambpell movie. Him hamming it up over playing himself is pure genius.

I'm really going to have to check out the HPLS flicks.

Great th'd !

Can't really add to anything that's already been said (if you liked Evil Dead, and really liked Evil Dead 2...Army Of Darkness is a must see, and you'll probably like Bubba HoTep and by then be able to really get into My Name Is Bruce).

But my favourite Easter Egg is one I stumbled on by accident watching a slo-mo replay of an exceptional lap playing the driving sim Grand Prix II. There, on the bridge over the straight on Interlagos......Klaatu Barada Nikto...
I did not slap you in the face, I high fived your head and your hands did not get in the way.

I had a horrible experience yesterday.

One of the damn younguns I work with and I were BSing about zombie films and such. He says he's all into the zombie apocalypse and such and I started in on the AOD one-liners, and he just looks at me like I grew a second head. He'd never seen it! WTF is wrong with kids these days?!?!?! You can't be into the zombie apocalypse without knowing WTF a F-ing BOOMSTICK is!!!

He never heard of Zombie Squad, either.

I lent him a copy of AOD and told him that his mission was to watch it at least twice and visit the forum here before next Monday. Should he fail this mission, I would slam his head in his car door until he came to his senses.

I know EXACTLY the feeling... It's like when you mention a scene from Dawn of the Dead, and kids go... I don't remember that in Dawn of the Dead (lightbulb goes off with a "ding" sound) ... No, I mean the original.
Original what?
Original Dawn of the Dead.

WHY, oh WHY, has no one ever given him an "A" movie role? a lead role? The only reason I started watching burn notice is because he was in it

Oh gosh, the Evil Dead movies. LOL!

The one I personally like the most, would have to be the original. I just felt like it was the best made. And it actually sacred me at times. I also liked how they attempted to be serious with this one. Although it is still campy as hell, haha.

Although I still do love the other movies. Especally Army of Darkness. Just... oh my god. Can you say hilarious? I probably watch the sequels the most. I just can't get enough of them.

I should note a few things about the Evil Dead series.

First, one of the books Ash uses to weigh down the bucket he catches his possessed hand in... the aptly titled 'Farewell to Arms'.

Second, in the event no one knew, 'Klaatu barada nikto', the magical phrase that vexes Ash so badly in Army of Darkness, was from the original 'The Day the Earth Stood Still', and shows up in a lot of places in sci-fi/fantasy.

I just finished Evil Dead 2. This one is damn frickin hilarious. I think my favorite part was him fighting with his own hand.

Anybody else seen these? What about the third one? Is it any good?

I typed up a lot of stuff.... but I am seriously at a loss for words. Some people really need to be Clockwork Oragned with the great movies of our time.

<-------------- Yes Bruce Campbell is actually god just here on Earth fucking around :) Army of Darkness, Bubba Ho-tep, My Name is Bruce and Burn Notice are all stellar examples of the Chin's awesomeness. I still have my fingers crossed that My Name Is Still Bruce will get made, but you never know.

His two books are good too, his first If Chins Could kill actually is his story in his words with lots of behind the scenes stuff. His second, Make Love the Bruce Campbell way is more like My Name is Bruce where he has written a book about himself where everything is absolutely true...except for the stuff that isn't! Great reads, great movies you can't go with the Chin!

Evil Dead 2 is my favourite film of all time, and the first Evil Dead has near mythical status for me due to it being banned in this country right through my childhood and teenage years. The uncut version only became available here a few years after the birth of DVDs.
