Seven months until my next fix? Are you shitting me? Seven months? :gonk:

This.
Quick side question: I'm a comic noob. Do I want the Compendiums, Books, or the Trade Paperbacks? the Books and Trade paperbacks are available past the first issue of each at my local Barnes N Noble. The books were covered in plastic, so I couldn't look inside them. The trades were in Black & White...? Is that how it's supposed to be? Again, I'm a complete comics noob.

My recommendation to everyone just starting the comics is to get the Compendium One, about $35 on Amazon.

But if you're into pride of ownership and all that, you can buy back issues of the individual comics and get the color covers. But you're talking hundreds of dollars.

So what's the deal with the helicopter? Was that the same one Rick saw when he first entered Atlanta, like a flashback? And is that in the GN?

The monthly comic book, or floppy, is up to issue #94. they are all in BW.

You can get Compendium 1 which covers the first 48 issues. To fit the format the pages and panels are a bit smaller.

You can get the Trade paper backs which collect each storyline, 4-5 issues per. These are standard page and panel format, or pretty close. $15 a pop except vol 1 which is $10.

Hard covers cover 12 issue arcs I believe. These look good on your bookshelf. $30?? A pop.

Again, all are black and white as that is a trope of the series. Kirkman chose to not color it.

ETA: I am a comic nerd and worked in a comic shop for over 3 years (until last August), I have the full collection of floppies, 1-10 of the TPBs, vols 1 and 2 of the hard covers. I always ask that you patronize a frinedly local comic shop beofre hitting up the internets if you can... but I understand price point and location. Get what you can how you can and read them - that's the important part. Also hit up your local library, many are carrying GNs now and, being as how TWD is a top seller, you'll probably find them in the library (the TPBs).

There's a helo in the GN but not in the same vein as the one in the TV show. The GN helo just crashes and ushers in a new storyline/plot twist.

So there is a government presence somewhere in the GN?

IIRC, it was a helicopter from an Atlanta TV news station that got "commandeered" by some other survivors.

And who had the great misfortune of crash landing close to Woodbury.

I think someone else in this thread suggested it first, but I'm wondering if the helicopter we see in the series belongs to the Governor.

Although that wouldn't make a lot of sense because in the GN at least, it took the Governor quite some time to find the exact location of the prison. If they have a chopper, seems like they'd find it in the first hour of looking.

They also reference time often in the GN, saying things like "that was two weeks ago", or "that happened last month". They also made a big deal of Andrea keeping a Calender. Something I think would help out the TV series a lot would to be to reference the passage of time now and then. Shows like this it is easy to get lost on how much time has passed or hasn't.

I'm looking at Compendium 1 right now.

The only time anyone mentions anything is when Hershel tells Rick's group they have to leave, and Lori says "How can you let us stay here for weeks and then just turn us away?"
They spent about a week on the road after they left the Atlanta camp and found the farm (they only went about 20 miles, found Tyreese and spent one night at Wiltshire Estates). And they were on the road for no more than a week after they left the farm and found the prison.

Seems like I was slightly too generous with my first estimate of 2 or 3 months. More likely 6 to 8 weeks passed between the time they left Atlanta until they found the prison.

Maybe I was wrong I am not sure where I thought I saw the 1 year mentioned, but later I saw them say in issue #34 it had been 5 months since things all started at Christmas time for the guy and his kid who first found Rick. So for the folks at the prison and it being spring time it has to be 7-8 months at least. Plus at that time Lori is getting big and looking pretty preggo. So I might have been off, but it is much more than 6-8 weeks.

DAMN YOU ALL!! now i'm looking at all the hard covers on Amazon!! and at $20 a piece... it's gonna cost me a fortune to get them all... cause i don't like to just get the lastest and not have the priors for a collection.. but i'm super confused on the amount of issues that are in each hard cover and the compendium...where does the story stop in the compendium? and I'm assuming the hard covers go all the way current..

Most of the time lapsed referrences I have seen were eitherr Kirkman and his editor mentioning it in the letters pages or seasons getting mentioned. Currently in the GN we are coming up on Winter 2 ZPAW?? If that is correct we are 2 years into it GN time-line (snow in the first few issues).

For the show I am assuming that we are coming on late fall, early winter. "It's f-in hot" references were made and now, "it's getting cold" references are being made. 3-4 months in TV time-line? I do not know GA climate but in comparing it to PNW climate "it's f-in hot" = August and "it's getting cold" = November. "That's a lot of rain" is all up in between

Re govt in GN: Nope. Almost 2 years into the ZPAW and no word from the govt. One guy lied about it and there was a character that was an official that went rogue, "It's all gone" is what he pretty much said. We just discovered another survivor community though so we'll find out what they know hoepflly.

This is based entirely upon my research. I recant my statement if someone has better info...

Indiv Comics = 1 issue each. (duh...?)
Trade Paperbacks = 6 issues
Hardcover Books = 12 issues
Compendiums = 48 issues

So, each of the higher up versions come out once there's been enough issues to fill one.
As I understand it, TWD is on issue 94 (or there abouts). Since compendiums come out every 48 episodes, there haven't been enough to make a second. 96 issues would be needed. That's why I'm leaning to the books or trade paperbacks.

IMHO, TPBs are the way to go. Library even.

I didn't get beyond some sort of Harley with ape hanger handlebars. I'm sure some Harley expert on the boards here could make a positive ID.

Hey Huntingbow, I thought of you the other day when I came across some nice Walking Dead action figures on Amazon. They're all made by a company called McFarlane. Now you can get a Rick Grimes or a Walker figure for around $16.50 and they seem to have plenty in stock:

But if you want a Daryl Dixon figure, you'd better move fast because they're constantly going out of stock. And you'd also be willing to pay a bit more, as in $60:

That pretty much speaks volumes to me about who fans consider to be the best character on the series right now.

It also means that the Daryll figure has way less copies. That is the usual indicator of high-priced speculated action figures. HuntingBow96, give it about 2 years and you can get a Daryll action figure for about $10.

I think you're trying to say it'd been 5 months since the outbreak started. What I'm saying is, from the time they decided to leave Atlanta.....to go somewhere, anywhere.....until the time they find the prison is only about six or eight weeks.

But either way I don't think they're going to kill off Carl on the TV show just because Chandler is getting older.

Daryl's bike is definitely a Triumph- and its been driving one of my friends nuts that they've been dubbing in the HD "potato-potato-potato" exhaust note. I guess they figure it sounds cooler, or that's what viewers expect it to sound like.
