Finally took a picture of my fledgling storage:

Image

Not seen are 50 lbs of red winter wheat and 25 of brown rice, in mylar and buckets. The brown buckets on the floor are the meal buckets from Wise Foods. I know a lot of people don't like that approach, but I actually find them to be decent meals, so I keep some. We like to throw some in the backpack for camping. There's also a box of MREs and a box of Bear Creek soups.

I'm working right now on mass water storage, more canned foods, and #10 cans of stuff like milk powder and powdered eggs, maybe some fruit. I'm also going to get some smaller mylar bags and seal them up with rations of hard tack and trail mix which will get used backpacking. I have 100 more pounds of wheat and 50 of oats on the way presently.

Ok the mother of all food storage, this is serious food storage on a massive scale!

Underground cave facility in Carthage, Missouri is operated by a company called Americold.

Conspiracy theories abound about this facility, though the simple under ground keeps it cold is seldom brought up. Security is minimal so the conspiracy theories are maybe a bit unfounded. My stepfather has visited this site, as an architect, in helping plan for another site like this to be built. He stated it is simply a giant storage facility for groceries in truck on their way to super markets.

Definitely falls under the "or Not" category.

Image

If you can't tell from the horrible picture, my SHTF food storage consists of three boxes of MREs, 2 buckets of Wise freeze dried emergency food (1 month for 4 people, or so it says), 4 cans of precooked ham, and a 30 cal ammo can half filled with New Millennium Energy Bars.

Now that I've got ammo at a comfortable level, food is my priority.

Just make sure he isn't one of your neighbors or something and actually counting your stores as his own. lol Sorry, I have nothing useful to contribute.

Currently living in a 1BR, 1BA apartment with my wife and our two dogs. We're looking into modular storage similar to the crates (last pic) but more sturdy. We have very little space in terms of storage. We have two closets (one in bedroom, one in hall between bedroom and bathroom), and the cabinets in our tiny kitchen.

First is our pharmacy. Includes pain relievers, cold medicine, toilet paper, paper towels, shampoos, conditioners, body wash, soaps, lotions, vitamins, etc. Some plastic containers contain shaving razors, tampons, etc. for personal care.
Image

Kitchen storage 1: We have very little storage in our kitchen. This is above the stove to the left. Contains chai tea for my wife, hot cocoa mixes, teabags, and peanut butter (have to keep away from dogs).
Image

Kitchen storage 2: Directly above the stove. Contains some cereal, and most pasta/rice mixes (we love hamburger helper beef and mac, and got a great deal), pastas, jarred sauces. To the right of it is mostly baking items and spices, with more cereal at the top.
Image

Kitchen storage 3: Directly above fridge is cake/dessert mixes, snack foods, jarred/canned gravies, Stove Top stuffing mix, some canned fruit and fruit cups, ketchup and more pasta mixes.
Image

In our living room we have this little (read "P.O.S.") crate thing we got at Wal-Mart for $10 that couldn't hold a feather without bending a little. Currently holds almost all canned goods, and our unopened condiments like mustard, mayo, and jelly.
Image

Like I said, we're in a tiny apartment with little space for storage. We're going to be getting a storage rack to put in the dining room to spread stuff out a bit and be able to stock more. Current project is someplace to store water without it being in the way and I'm thinking the bottom shelf will end up being for gallon jugs of water.

On the note of water storage in a small space, does anyone just keep store-bought gallon jugs? Or do you empty them and fill with water you purified yourself?

I love case lot sales!

We also added another couple hundred pounds of rice, sugar, wheat, and beans to our long term stores and picked up a stack of 5 gallon food grade buckets with lids for $3.68/bucket. It's also a great opportunity each spring to teach our friends and family how to purchase in bulk. I think it helps that they can buy enough canned food for a few months for relatively cheap while not looking out of place.

25lbs pinto beans, ~20lbs pasta, 25lbs of rice. About 2 pounds of each in one gallon sized, 5mil Mylar bags with a desicant and O2 absorber, heat sealed. Then put those in to my 5 gallon buckets. This way I can open smaller amounts when needed. Instead of having to open all 25 pounds of beans, I can open 2 pounds. Each bag is marked with what food and the month date packed as well as the buckets.

This isn't mine just to say that out front. But I was researching plans for building can organizers, I have a closet I'm converting to a third pantry that I want to use for canned foods. Anyway I came across this and thought it showed an excellent way to make use of some space and do it in an attractive manner. All they really need is a bit of framed plywood on hinges on each side IMO in the same white and it would be better. If they'd slanted the shelves (or at least a bit more) so the cans self fed it would be perfect for the application. When she pulled a can out, the other cans didn't roll forward indicating it's not slanted or not enough.

I moved my main food storage into a new room (5' x 12') and got muscle racks last weekend. Yesterday, I picked up my yearly co-op order of http://waltonfeed.com/ foods and added it to my storage.

Another closet in the house has all my paper goods like TP etc. I also have 55 gallon drums of water somewhere else. I have containers with big bags of rice and flour etc stored in another room.

This is just my prep pantry, I have a main food pantry in the kitchen with probably a month of food in it.

These are some of the cool labels I made for my buckets with my cutting machine.

Image

This wall has cases of dry milk pdr, powdered and freeze dried cheese, tomato powder, dehydrated and freeze dried fruits and veggies, sour cream powder, butter powder, shortening powder etc. Also some cases of canning jars. I have a few doz more cases of canning jars elsewhere.

Image

Image

I'm going to put another shelf above this one when I have the money. These are boxes of canning jar lids, soap, emergency supplies like emergency blankets, chem lights, sterno, and more.

Love the pics of everyone's storage stash. I've got some cases of MREs stockpiled (I'll post pics later). Totally something everyone should have if available to them. We do a lot of canning here as well, and even though it retains a seal, canning is only designed to get you through a season. May last a year or two at best. IMHO...not trying to be a naysayer.

Most of us have had a can of whatever from years ago in Grandma's pantry that was still just fine. Yes, it loses some nutrition over time, but if done right it'll last years and years, not just a year or two. I know there is a link somewhere that shows how long commercially canned food is actually good for, and as long as you do home canned right, I can't see why it wouldn't outlast commercial.

So I figured it was finally time to upload part of my stockpile. Along with this I have cases upon cases of water, spices, Datrex bars, etc, etc. We have a foreign exchange student this year but when she leaves in June, I get my stockpile bedroom back and it will be much more organized!

Alright..guess I'll post some of these..this isn't all of it..only what I have organized so far..still working on the rest. Obviously not all of this is food..but I likes my luxury items too. Working on getting buckets and mylar bags for longer term storage for a lot of this stuff and what's not pictured.

Image

The plastic tote has razors in it that I'm currently using and the toothpaste is stacked 2 high all the way back to the wall as is the shampoo/conditioners and body wash.

Image
Pasta (in the blue bags), and other..stuffs..yeah that's it.. on the top shelf..the lower shelf in next pic

Image

More pasta, taco shells and Yakisoba dinner thingys..my kid eats them like their gonna stop making them..I have about 60 more of them coming.

Image

Pasta sauce, canned goods (veggies, etc) and drink mixes..I'll have at least 20 more drink mixes by the end of th week as well as 4 more cases of veggies by the end of the week as well.

Image

More razors, deodorant, SOME of my first aid stuff and yes, that IS 18 boxes of KY Jelly down there..they pay me to buy it with the right coupon.

More pics later when I get the rest of it moved around and inventory taken.

Well, my personal food storage consists of a couple cabinets of cans, a huge pantry full of an odd assortment of mostly useless dried and boxed foods with no organization, and a case of ramen. So that probably fits in the "not" category. But this thread has given me some great ideas for what to start getting together, and we have a pretty large storage room on top of our overly deep pantry and cabinets that I'd like to fill up.

Well, I'm back from deployment, and starting on the preps. Here's what we have so far:

Image Image Image

Not shown: Three cans of formula & sixteen of the Simulac pre-mixed bottles, also the 'beer fridge' has some overflow from the freezer and some sodas. Only water storage I have (other than the single gallon seen in the photo) is the water heater. Anyone know how well the 1 gal Nestle jugs hold up? I'm planning on stocking up more this coming week once I get paid.
