M715 truck to get badlands thru the badlands

Postby Badlands » Tue Mar 13, 2012 2:47 pm

Just picked up another apocalyspe contender, 1968 Jeep Kaiser M715 military truck with only 16,000 original miles on it. Check out the pictures!
Here it is when I drove it home.

Here is what the interior looked like.............

Here it is after some R&R.........

And here is what it looks like now!

Just rebuilt the seat springs and painted the seat frames, waiting on the new seat upholstery I ordered to get here, I rhino lined the cab floor and bought a new steering wheel that is going to look killer when installed. Started sanding on the outside until the UPS guy comes with new parts. More pictures to come!

You have my attention sir  I am looking forward to seeing how this one progresses.

I have always loved Jeep Trucks and it looks like you got yourself a find there. You're in Idaho, Where'd you get it, did they have any more? What did it cost you?

Until recently I was sold on getting a Jeep truck but I've shifted gears and am in the market for a wrangler instead.

I traded my 1987 Ford 4x4 van for the truck, I was turning the Van into a camper van but decided it would be a lot eaisier to get a truck and put a camper on it. The M715 is a Montana department of natural resources truck. The M715 is a 1 1/4 ton truck so it will handle the weight of just about any camper. I will paint the camper O.D. Green to match the truck. if your looking for a truck go to www.M715zone.com or put "M715 for sale" in google and you will find some. people are doing diesel conversions, 350 chev conversions, axle swaps and other cool upgrades.

I love them too, but I have to agree with Tacair about the possible kidney damage you are in for. Ill be watching this one. Those had some serious brow.

Great find Badlands. It might be a kidey buster, but it will get you there, wherever "there" is. I'll bet the camper will smooth the ride out a bit as well.

Dustytombs, I've been eying that 715 in Caldwell for a while, but with 2 Grand Wagoneers in the driveway, I have no more room. :x

Well I figure with a big heavy camper on the back it should tame the rough ride and if it doesn't I will just remove a leaf spring or two, my long term goal is to install a 4BT diesel engine, then it will get 18 to 20 mpg. I understand most people don't have the mechanical knowledge or the desire to build something fun but as for me .....it's what I do! 8-)

Oh now thats a great find. And nice job on the interior. I would love to find something like that in good shape for a decent price.

Painted the seat frames and rhino lined the floor, got the seat upholstery in so after a little upholstery work the seats are back in the truck. Installed the shifter cover and batteries and it fired right up! Ordered the new steering wheel and it will be here on wed. Today I stripped the cab roof, sanded the grille and tailgate, I figure another day doing prep work and it will be ready for primer.

UPS showed up with the steering wheel I ordered and using the Grant 4403 steering adapter I installed the steering wheel in the truck, the damn yellow paint dust is everywhere, guess I should have left the door seals on before I sanded the outside!

Freshly painted, I sanded it all down and epoxy primed the truck then wet sanded and the next day sprayed the new paint. I just backed it out of the shop, still has the paper on the windows. Now I just have to paint the bumpers, cowel, mirrors, brush guard, fuel fill pipe, headlight trim rings and gas can holders and re assemble.

Damn! I really have a soft spot for these trucks!!
I have kind of transformed my Wagoneer to be a hybrid of the M715.
Love the look. .. and that wheel is really cool.

Badlands, we used to have one of these at the fire dept for brush fires. With the PTO winch on the front, it would pull the gates off of hell. Very nice.

The paint is actually marked and sold as OD Green from HotRod Paints. I know from looking around there are about 5 or 6 different versions of OD Green paint depending on what era your military vehicle is from, the reason I picked this one is the guy sells two gallons ready to spray right out of the can with reducer and hardener already added for $110.00 which was about half the price of everyone else. Plus he offers free shipping and no haz mat fees so it's a great deal. You can find him on EBAY just look under ...Olive Green Paint.

I wish I had the M715 with the winch as the winch models command more money, plus finding a good used winch set up is almost as expensive as putting a new warn 9000 lb winch on.
