My Collection (Updated*New Pics+New Guns*)

Postby AK47Heaven » Sat Feb 18, 2012 10:37 pm

I have long been a lurker on ZS and am always jealous when I see you guys posting pictures of all these bad ass guns I will probably never be able to afford.I finally borrowed a camera (who can justify the cost of a camera when there is so much ammo to buy?) so I decided I would post some gun porn for my fellow ZS'ers. It is a relatively modest collection by this sites standards but my family and friends think I am John Rambo.

First is my brand new Gen 3 Glock 26.It was 520 but I paid an extra 60 for Ameriglo Tritium sites.Mags are loaded with 124 gr Golden Sabers (non +P, non bonded).EDIT:Mags are now loaded with Hornady TAP FPD 124 gr, also added a Hogue grip,Pearce grip plug and painted the lettering. The paint holds up surprisingly well I carried it all summer (it was hot as fuck) and it's still going strong.Passed approx. 1500 rounds now no malfunctions

Next my Marlin Glenfield Model 60 .22LR.When I got it it was an ugly dark brown piece of shit with no scope, I added a 4x Bushnell and sanded and stained the stock.I also sanded off the grooves that run the length of the stock toward the front and the squirrel on the grip, leaving just the grooves on the right hand side of the grip.EDIT:This gun is giving me a lot of trouble lately, I'm not sure why.I cleaned it really thoroughly still no luck.Don't shoot it much now :(

Image

Next is my AKM (WASR GP 10/63).I sanded and stained the stock on this as well, and added a Hogue grip and a Tapco 74 style brake.I honestly feel even though its Crapco the brake helps with muzzle climb enough to be worth 20$.The mag well is very tightly machined, all parts fit together extremely well, all serial numbers match (receiver, receiver cover, bolt, bolt carrier, gas tube),it does not have a canted site, the finish is good,it is accurate,it is stupid reliable, and was made in 1985 by Cugir.Best WASR ever!I intend to get a Tromix extended charging handle, a tritium front site post, and a good sling and call it good.KISS applies here.EDIT:I can't tell if it's canted, or if it has just been adjusted. This is my first AK so I'm really just not sure.I've included a pic of the FSB so if anyone can tell me a bit more that'd be cool.I've also added a pic of the proofmark from Cugir and of the magwell. The machining of the well is of equal quality of other AKM variants I've looked at and the "mag wobble", at least on mine, isn't noticeable really.

Here's my S&W 64-3, .38 Special +P.It's a K-frame w/ a 3" bbl and heavy barrel.Beautiful gun.A steal at $250, I don't think the gun shop knew what it was worth.

Now my NEF Pardner.I know this is blasphemy but it feels nicer than many 870s I have handled.Thicker metal and I believe the triggerguard, trigger, and safety are all steel.VERY solid gun.600+ rounds (Slugs,00,000,birdshot) with no malfunctions at all.$199 OTD.I have an elastic shell carrier, allowing me to carry 11 rounds of Hornady Low Recoil 00 (5+1 in mag, 5 on stock) on the gun.EDIT:Front bead fell off around round count 800 shooting slugs, I've since replaced it with a clamp on fiber optic from Truglo its holding up surprisingly well.

Tomorrow I'll be further updating this thread with pics of my Kel Tec P32, which was given to me as a gift last month for my birthday. It's yet to have a malfunction at round 150, so I'm pretty pleased with it.It carries well.

There they are! Thanks for checkin out the pics.Keep in mind I'm only 21 and have a very long life of buying lots more guns ahead of me.

Yup, having all your bases covered is pretty much IMO the #1 priority, and you've got it. I like the G26 and I've been considering one lately, but now that XDS caught my eye so I've gotta see how realistic it'll be to get one. I wish I had my guns in order that well when I was 21.

Thanks I really tried to cover all bases with as reliable a platform as possible while still not paying too much.My LGS has a Winchester Model 70 .270 for $350 I really want to extend my range past 300m,but how can I tell if its going to be a good shooter? The action is not as tight as I'd like but it seems usable for sure.

I've heard of people putting a round nose down in the end of the barrel on Mosins to see how deep it goes, would that work on the Winchester too?

I have no experience with the XDS, and I'm sure its a great gun in its own right, but I gotta tell you I fucking love my Glock. It is so damn sexy. :D

Also after much consideration no safety is ideal for CCW in my opinion so it is a better gun for that purpose to me.

A solid battery, good job. I would add a .22 rifle (10/22) and a .22 conversion for your pistol (Advantage Arms). Other than that, all you have to do now is get some web gear, attend some training classes, and buy more ammo!

EDIT- missed the Marlin! Still would advise an Advantage Arms slide- they're well worth it at whatever price you pay for it.

That's a good looking AK. Nice collection and good choice on the GLock.

Perhaps you missed the Model 60.

That is a .22LR.

Overall you have your bases covered. Don't be down on what you have. Like you mentioned you have a long life ahead of you to buy guns.

As for the NEF, I bought one several years ago as a deal to a buddy of mine (he didn't have a gun, and I told him if he bought one I would to just for kicks.) I already have a HD shotgun that I am very familiar with, but I figured for $200, I didn't think I could go wrong. I didn't. It has eaten a couple thousand rounds of high and low brass loads and is the shotgun I use to introduce folks to who aren't familiar with them. Using low brass bird shot the recoil is nearly nonexistent and it has become a favorite of several of my female friends. I recently sold it to a retired LEO who needed something solid and reliable for his wife while he is away. I threw in a couple boxes of birdshot, a box of 00 Buck and a buttcuff and he willingly paid me my original price on it.

Took the Glock out for the first time yesterday.Ran 150 rounds of 115 FMJ from WWB,UMC,and Federal and some Golden Sabers they all ran smooth as can be no hiccups. My AK actually failed to feed a round.Cleared easy but still shitty.

Still can count all its malfunctions on one hand though.

Win 70 should be solid. the nose down the bore thing will work on anything: you're checking the crown to see if it's tight or worn out. The crown should stop the bullet before the case touches.

Beware the man with one gun for he knows how to use it. Nice 26. Hopefully you have a good quality holster for it. I have a Blackhawk CQC holster, its probably one of the best out there for the 26.

How did you like the sights on the Glock? I'm picking up a 19 with the same ones later tonight.

I like them a lot actually. The rear sight has no tritium but does glow a bit after light exposure. The front has a small green tritium dot that glows 24/7 and is also encased in a square piece that glows brightly after light exposure also.Kind of like an I dot setup I dig it.

I use a Galco Stow N Go, I literally just opened the package 10 minutes ago but it seems really nice.I am breaking it in right now per Galco's instructions.I also got a Fenix E11 EDC flashlight and it KICKS ASS.Definitely worth 26 dollars. On top of that I just got two good survival books, 100 feet of 550 cord, a 9mm/.38 Boresnake,100 9mm, and my health insurance verification 8-) Good mail day.

I'm interested in getting a Pardner Pump myself. How do you like it? How much experience do you have with shotguns? For the price, I'm waaaaay tempted.

The Pardner is a good gun.I am a shotgun n00b, I will admit that, but it has turned out to be a great purchase and has been kicking ass for 3 years.I believe it is the same design as the Remington 870 but is made by Hawk (Norinco) in China, and then imported and checked by NEF and Marlin, who now owns NEF/H&R.Despite this I think it is trustworthy due to the quality of their SKSs,MAK 90s,M14s, 1911s, etc.

I would prefer a nice 870 because I am a whore for brand names but for the price it really cant be beat. The choke groups all 00 buck I have tried tightly at HD distances and rifled slugs hit POA at 25 yards with a bead sight. It does everything I ask of it and I would feel just as comfortable using it to defend myself as my AKM,Glock,or S&W.Saying I would trust my life to it is really the ultimate testament to its quality in my opinion.

Mine has never malfunctioned and has a nice finish and is MUCH more solid feeling than comparable shotguns like the Maverick 88, which in my opinion feels sloppy as hell.Hope that helps you out,I would pick up one if I were you.I might even pick up 3-4 more to set aside for family when SHTF.CTD had them for 149 USD recently!!You might also want to check out the Stevens 350.Almost as cheap but has ghost ring sights and ejects from the bottom for true ambidextrous use.

ALSO although I will probably catch shit for this I have literally NEVER detail stripped and cleaned my Pardner.I just use Break Free Powderblast in the action, a boresnake, and spray some Rem oil on it, works like a charm.

Very well done and a very functional armory…especially for being just 21! My first rifle was a Winchester 30-30 and I didn’t get my first pistol until I graduate college (Sig P228). I picked up a Marlin model 60 last year (stainless) and it’s a tack-driving shooting.

I struggled and purchased all my own firearms and now make sure my son is well armed. He’s only 13, but he now has:

AR15 (a light weight build we worked on together)
Mossberg 500 20 gauge (18.5 and 26 inch barrels)
Ruger 10/22
My older CZ75 9mm

He’s laid claim to many more, but these are what he’ll be able to walk out of the house with.

I’m still planning on getting him a Glock 19 and an STI 1911 .45 (he was born in TX and keeps shooting my .45’s :D).

I’m glad to see someone at your age with a very decent arsenal and good head on your shoulders,

Thanks man much appreciated :D I saw the picture of your AR's in the Survival Battery thread, very nice!!!I'm jealous. In the next few years I intend to upgrade what I currently own as follows:

Glock 19
SGL21
Ruger 10/22
Savage Model 14 .308 Winchester
Remington 870

Still keep my old guns of course, those are just the best options in each category in my opinion.

Edit: Good choices on your son's guns, also!!!I just had a pocketknife at 13  Anyway thats what I call a good dad I'm sure he appreciates it.

Yeah, my son wanted to make sure the guns were noted in my Will for him

That's a good selection for the future. I have the SGL21 and it's a very accurate AK; I don't care for the standard stock and will someday upgrade to an ACE folding stock...still, it's a prime AK.

I will say that my most often carried handgun is my Glock 26. It just seems to work very well for me and that's with a decent selection to choose from. During the summer, it's my prime carry piece and the one I fly with when I have to travel...the G19 will be a good addition.

With few weapons and only one rifle for longer ranges, it would suck to not be able to get ammo for it post paw, or not afford enough ammo for it pre paw.
Both from a SHTF standpoint as well as an economical one I think your best choice would be to avoid anything but the most common calibers, 270 may be common, but I don't think it is common enough.

If I were you, I would consider a .308 as the only option if it would be my only +300 yard gun(should be plenty of good, used 308 bolt guns to chose from)
Whatever works!

Yeah in my AO .308 or .30-06 would be the only options really...

Oh well I like .30 cal anyway :D
And I can use the same boresnake as my AK.

So I thought I read the PSI of .308 Win is 62,000 and 7.62x51 NATO is 58,000.Is that true?Should I not fire .308 in a 7.62 NATO chambered rifle?

In short yes.

It depends on the rifle though.

Most modern rifles chambered in 7.62 NATO will fire commercial .308 Winchester fine. It is the older rifles chambered in 7.62x51mm that you have to worry about. Specifically some of the small ring Mausers that have been converted to 7.62 NATO from their original chamberings.

Spanish/Mexican/Chilean Mausers are some of the first that pop into mind. I have a 1916 Guardia Civil small ring Mauser based on a 93 action. It isn't shrouded, and has been rechambered to 7.62 NATO from 7x57mm. This is one of the most controversial of the 7.62 NATO rifles. While I have not personally seen one that has blown up, I have seen them with the bolt set back and the headspace way out of whack.

The CETME is another one that comes to mind. I have seen plenty of folks that shoot the .308 Winchester out of it, but complaints of messed up brass, poor feeding and bolt setback are again common. I have no experience with this rifle like I do the Mausers, but I am most often hearing that is is from shooting .308 Winchester in them, instead of the 7.62 NATO.

If you are talking about new AR style rifles, they are good to go.

Now the really fun part is if you are talking about a 7.62 CETME round, which is again, similar to .308 Winchester and 7.62x51mm. Rumors persist that this round never made it to production, but then rumors persist that some guns were produced for it. It is chambered at an even lower pressure.
