My Czechpoint VZ 58 rifle :) **New VZ58 Porn on Pg 2!**

Postby RevolverOcelot » Sat Feb 04, 2012 11:40 pm

Tax time has come so I decided to get me a new toy. It is a Czechpoint VZ-58. Sorry for the crappy pic, it is from my cell phone.

She is light and handy. Points better than my AK that I used to have. I have a Primary Arms Micro Dot on the way to top off the NEA/Troy cowitness rail.

At some point I want to get the barrel extension taken off and put a flash hider on. Something compatible with next tax time's investment, a suppressor! :)

You could also consider getting SKS clips instead of investing in new mags; I hear they're somewhat expensive than standard AK.

So yeah, I hate you now.

Range Report Please.

Hopefully I'll get one of these eventually.

Nice, I ordered one recently(folder version) and I should be picking it up on Wednesday 8-)

In anticipation of my VZ I ordered ammo and 4 mags from AIMSurplus. They're only $12 a piece.

If I wasn't so heavily invested in the AK platform, I'd pick one of these up in a heartbeat. Good looking blaster you have there :D

Here's the mags you want(I think, can't say with authority on this particular rifle  ): http://www.aimsurplus.com/product.aspx? ... groupid=15

Yes, that is on the list also, more mags!

From the two that I have right now, they are way lighter than the steel AK mags, they are some kind of alloy I believe. No sharp edges either! I like them because they have a last round bolt hold open. I am thinking about getting the military folder, or maybe installing an ACE folder sometime. Of course, here I have to register it as a pistol...

Here is a good place for some accessories: http://northeasternarms.com/accessories/cz-858-vz-58

The above sells the rail that I have on my rifle.

Can someone elaborate? You say clips so I assume you mean stripper clips and not the mags for the tapco stocks?

Yeah; I know that the Vz. 58 takes SKS clips from the top, and it's a rifle I'm looking into for that reason (not necessarily for utility, just as an interesting piece). Good thing you clarified, otherwise I'd have looked like a total douche trying to advocate an SKS mag for what clearly takes an entirely different one.

Range report really wanna see how that primary arms optic is. I'm trying to stick with irons on my ak but it might not be the best choice.

Bad lighting in the pics, I am sorry. On the way is a factory folder and polymer pistol grip!

I have only handled a VZ 58 once but I really liked it. So much lighter than an AK. At first the weight difference put me off, but these days I actually would prefer it.

I should have jumped on the VZ back when they were available for a lot less than now! Hind sight...

Great gun, I have the CZ-858 (same gun as you have but the Canadian import name) but with the issue folding stock and I switched out the pistol grip and forestock for the FAB Defence polymer ones in OD colour. I also have the NEA Heavy Muzzle break on it which works real nice. The are quite plentiful up here in Canada and highly rated, much better built then the AK and lighter as stated.

If you could get a Bullet Button for one of these, and pin a mag to 10 rounds, the stripper clip feature could make these an appealing option for CA residents. Anyone know if this has been tried?

Other than already having an AK, why? Surplus steel mags are only 12 bucks...

Already having an AK, having friends with AKs, having a spouse with an AK...so yeah, basically that. Compatibility.

Yup, that's the only reason I don't own one.

Sure, just make sure you stay 922(r) compliant. The mags that come with those include US-made floorplates and leaders (as I recall); unless you add additional US-made parts, using surplus mags will make you non-922 compliant, which, I believe, is a felony even if no case has yet been prosecuted. Better safe than sorry.

Has US made rifle compliance parts to get you legal to use surplus mags.

Keeping the internals stock, you can just replace the pistol grip and/or butt stock and/or handguards for US made and you are good to go.

I haven't actually looked at it yet, but there is talk on another forum where there is a way you can file down AK mags to work in the 58, but then they will not work in an AK.

Will it reach 26" folded up? AK underfolders with slant brake, AMDs, Uzi carbines, etc. don't quite make it.
Yeah that sucks too about registering as a pistol 26-30", the upside is you can also haul it around with you in a bag wherever you could an actual pistol. if there was a shorter than 30 rd. mag for the Vz that would be helpful for this.
IDK. I generally just buy a folder seperate, and leave it off, and really do (though I think it's only a misdemeanor...but you'd never see the rifle again if an LEO knows the law, that's certain). Have seen a FFL sell a pistol grip pump like it had a stock. I bought a pellet gun a while back from a Pamida department store that legally I needed a purchase permit for, they didn't know, and I heard laws had recently changed. Technically that toy is an unregistered pistol.
Certainly do not want effective weapons and the first to be banned then confiscated, being registered, unless needed for CPL...but if I needed that, I'd learn to avoid the situation or area. Though it could avoid trouble, used for GHB/BOB rifle storage. MI has some weird and stupid gun laws (good or bad) but regarding vehicles are just baffling. Been my experience LEOs will give you leeway if everything is not obviously illegal itself or for you to have, not stolen, and just with common sense applied. I get pulled over a lot and consented to be searched countless times. If a person could be arrested for something like having ammo and gun in the same trunk, I doubt anyone would, they may mention it, but are just happy the gun isn't chambered with a loaded mag. All that said, always better to be safe than sorry, know the law and follow when it comes to guns in particular. I've also known of two people, neither good, prosecuted for switchblades, with assisted openers they got at their local walmart.

I love Vz-58's and in some ways are better than AKs, but already got myself DFL with Kalashnikovs, all long guns across the board from shotgun to sniper rifle all AK (only thing that possibly might make me switch, a Scar 17 and XCR 6.8 sbr if ever able to get one). But Vz's are awesome and definately one to look at first for an x39 (or first overall if there ever happened to be a person not totally horny for an M4).
Get a shitton of mags and strippers and learn how to fix them if you ever needed to (plus key spare parts and a lilltle experience on an AR platform for battlefield pick up) though they're pretty durable and reliable, it's as good as anything common or not, IMO better than any 5.56 for fighting and certainly general purpose use.

Machined forged steel and weighs less than mostly plastic and aluminum comparable weapons

You ever watch that show Strikeback on Showtime? They use these all the time, great show too.

And here she is a little more old school. Has the Mako pistol grip, and standard upper handguard on her now. Oh yea, and my new folding stock. My new "pistol" according to Michigan.
