wasn't aware that it was illegal to hunt with them. Cans themselves have been legal a long time. ATF stamp applies, of course.

As a person that has grown up in a poor, rural area, let me be the first to say that the ability to conceal a rifle's report from a game warden or neighbors does not bode well for populations of whitetail deer that already have enough trouble enduring the 12-month "trailer park season".

The only saving grace of this law is that suppressors are expensive. :/

I seriously doubt that it will make a differnce in who poaches or when. If you are a shitbag willing to poach, it won't matter if hunting with a silencer is legal or not. They already break the law, breaking another one wouldn't make a difference. All this will do is allow hunters to hunt without worrying about their hearing or wearing hearing protection IMO. Besides, to even purchase a can you have to jump through many legal hoops and/or background checks. I doubt poor rural poachers would submit willingly to such scrutiny.

The new poaching laws, where they seize the vehicles and firearms, are having a good impact, as are the stings the gamewardens have done (locally, at least). A $500 fine is one thing, losing $25,000 in truck and firearms (sometimes a lot more if you're duck hunting and they take the boat and trailer too) is a really big deal.

this.

I am really excited for this, because my dad is half deaf because of hunting without hearing protection (before the electronic hearing protection existed).

I agree Phil. I just don't think allowing cans to be used while hunting will cause more poaching. Going after the poachers and hitting them in the pocket book is very effective.

I don't like it when we have to pass laws for common sense issues. You can use a silencer while hunting = not annoying your neighbors and saves your hearing. But that is just Me.

Yea I agree with both of you & it would be really helpful when hunting nocturnal hogs. For some reason the heard seems to scatter when the guns go off :D

BTY gunslinger were you at Cabelas Thursday. Cause I saw a guy wearing a cap with ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ on it. (what does that mean anyway?) But i'm the shy type so I didn't approach. Besides I was on a mission & it was really crowded at the gun counter.

No unfortunately that wasn't me. I was at the police academy until 5:30 and then headed right home to study, iron, and spit shine til I passed out. :(

ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ = The Greek phrase Molōn labe!, meaning "Come and take them!" is a classical expression of defiance reported by King Leonidas in response to the Persian army's demand that the Spartans surrender their weapons at the Battle of Thermopylae. It corresponds roughly to the modern equivalent English phrase "over my dead body," "bring it on" or, most closely, "come and get it."

per this http://www.statesman.com/sports/outdoor ... 23880.html you can currently shoot hogs and 'yotes since those aren't "game animals". Deer etc are game animals and currently illegal to shoot using a can.
