Why? The only things that run on AA's in my house are remote controls. (Okay, well, not really true--my remote controls run on AAA batteries but I do have an automatic soap dispenser and also a mouse that runs on AA's).

I've standardised all my gear on AA.

flashlights
headlamp
video camera
GPS
USB charger for phone or ipod (albeit this is a piece of crap)

And I'm saving for an EOTech 512

Video camera? Where in the 9 hells did you find a video camera that uses AA's? 1996?

Some shit brand but it works great, records in HD and uses SD cards... runs off 4xAA and is reasonably small and light.
Only complaint is has shit focus at close range.

Hahahah yeh probably... but the question stands, is there a AA-powered, reputable-brand, high output (>200lumen) flashlight capable of being used as an impact device?

I'd suggest a Fenix LD20 but alas no impact crenallations. Still would hurt.

Don't need it to be all jagged and scary, just stand up to a bump on the nose or jaw. Thanks, I'll look into that one.

I have a 4 Sevens Quark AA2 Turbo. It runs on 2 AA batteries, is tough, and has a lot of features. I think it only does 120 lumens though.

If you need a reliable defensive light, Surefire.

There are cheaper lights, if you'd like cheaper light.

Why go cheaper on a defensive tool?!?

My disclaimer... i love flashlights. I own more flashlights then the 99%

There isn't a better light right now then Surefire IMHO.

Quick edit: if you plan to take this on trips - CHECK YOUR BAG! TSA will take any of your D modeled Surefire lights. They allow me to travel with any of my non- D models without any questions so far.

Seems like there's two questions here 1. for a plane (I presume carry on) which means it has to look benign.
2. something more scary looking- which opens up a field of bezelled possibilities.

Re 1. the easy to find cheap choice is the lowly mini maglite (2xAA or 2XAAA), preferably brightly coloured rather than tactical black- looks unassuming. Not very bright, for the cheapest you don't even have to get an LED version- which makes it almost disposable.

Though I also carry a blue Streamlight Stylus Pro 2xAAA on planes:

Another cheap black flashlight in the Fenix series I like is the E21 (2xAA), but I wouldn't take it on a plane:

The good thing is it's cheap, sturdy, and uncomplicated- has only two settings to worry about- superbright, and actually able to be used to read something. I think some of the lights with 5+ output settings are a pain in the arse. Often times uncomplicated is the way to go.
