As with all the contests, try and challenge yourself. Its no fun if your just going on a routine camping trip. I like falure, the best way to learn a new skill is whan plan A goes wrong and you have to.

Woods Walker wrote:FYI.

This time around if someone posts:

Reserved for entry or something of the like in the official entry thread but then doesn't follow up with an actual entry within a reasonable time I will remove that post. This will be done to keep the clutter down and out of respect for those who post a real entry.

^^^I'm assuming these (+the "stay alive" rule) are the finished set of WMBO rules(?) It's really not as much of a question as it is a clearification after reading back through this thread again for the first time

You’re correct. If someone reserves a spot and goes belly up that post will be removed but in addition ZS will disavow any knowledge of the person and delete their account in an attempt to cover our tracks. :)

i belive this is the final set of rules. it will allow for just about anything anyone wants to try and pull off for the contest. i hope to see an entry from you, just be safe, have fun, and welcome to the board! :)

I hope to see an entry from me too and can't wait to see the others aswell. Safety, situational awareness, disaster preparedness, and fun is the main keys to why we're all here right  ? Thankz for the warm welcome Darkside

Oh good! I'll be sure to "report" those types of posts made in the official thread for swift action from the ZS Mod Team, thankz

Maybe it's just me, but I dont think ANY spots should be open for reservation.

You want a spot near the top of the list? Get out there and get your entry in early.

Or maybe I am turning into the grumpy old fart I knew I was.

if you reserve a spot then come back and add it towards the end of the contest it could very easily be overlooked , as most people will just pick up on the latest page.

2nd that, I only check for new posts in threads too... maybe I should wait til the end of the contest to post mine even tho I'm going early in the allotted time frame...

what Takaaco said.....on an on-going thread i will never look back at the first pages unless im looking for specific information. it makes no difference at all if your entry is on page 1 or 15. myself/the judges will be reading every entry in the thread no matter what page it is on. i know i will read every entry at least twice. :)

I second that motion, I agree, reserving a spot does not seem right, it gets kind of confusing reading a post that happened months after another later on in the thread that occurred prior.

thanks for the contribution.

re reserved spots: I also only look at the new pages, and reserving a spot seems to produce some sort of "I wanted to but couldn't this time" juju.

I look forward to seeing the entries, I learn from and enjoy all of them.

Another voice over the internets hoping that people will post their entries as new posts rather than "reserving" a spot and then editing. When I scour the thread for the entry links list, even I have a hard time catching all of the "edited" posts--not mention when I see a "new post" icon next to the thread I get really excited, and edited posts don't do that either...

Hey quick question..sincei i dont feeling like starting a whole new topic for one measly question but...how do i know if a mummy bag is too small? I got one for xmas and i fit into it but my feet are all the way against the foot part and my head is a couple inches away from the top. On each side im fine...or is it im probably not used to mummy bags and theyre supposed to be that snug?? Thanks in advance

It’s not uncommon for both head and feet to make connect with the ends. If it doesn't feel overly tight odds are the bag is ok. How tall/heavy are you? On a side note gear questions are almost never off topic in a gear forum. :)

Just off the top of my head 72 inches seems on the short side for a sleeping bag. I think you might need something longer unless this is a women's bag. I should have asked gender.

In that case send it back. Hope to see the new sleeping bag in the contest.

there has been a change to what i will be giving to the top three winners since i stumbled accross this today... :D

the top three winners will not be getting a tin of fatwood and a firesteel from me. it just got bumped up to a bag of fatwood and a firesteel! i may also throw out additional prizes for best shelter, best meal, or best whatever... 8-)

i was actually standing on the punky/fallen part of this tree when i took the first couple of pics. what is left standing is about 6 ft tall and tappers down to about 8 inches at the bottom. the top is not all that great as far as fatwood goes, but as you get closer to the botton things get MUCH better. i easily cut/knocked away all the punky outer bark with a hatchet. this thing is rock solid from about the middle down to the bottom. i wasnt prepared to harvest this whole thing today, but i was able to bring home a few samples. i also need to mention that i broke my gerber saw in the process. i will explain how this happened on another thread, maybe a dedicated fatwood thread on the bushcraft board is in order..... anyways i plan on harvesting this whole thing, and right beside it is another dead pine that is also rock solid, i counted three more that may have some fatwood potential all within a 50 ft radius!

BTW- to the best of my knowledge based on what i know about my local pine im going to say this is a slash pine.
